ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF
ALTERNATIVE INSTRUCTIONAL
RESOURCES (AIRs) –
LEARNING MATERIALS
FOR SELECT SHS SUBJECTS

Objectives

Orient the participants on the:


* Design, development and quality assurance processes
* Copyright

* Page Design and other necessary standards and guidelines.
* Curriculum and Pedagogical Requirements
Identifying the Development Team

The Development Team shall consist of teachers,


principals, subject area specialists and/ or
coordinators, field and/or program
implementers etc. who shall write, content edit,
language edit, illustrate, design, layout and
proofread the learning resources.
Development of the LM

** writing proper
* arts development
* editing, and
* IPR management

Here, the content of the learning resource is


developed based on the agreed design
reflected in the design brief.
Internal Review of the LM by the
Development Team

Upon completion of the first draft of the LM,
content and language editors shall do an
initial review of the LM.
Revision of LM

*
The development team shall discuss among
themselves if the comments and
recommendations done during the internal
review of the LM are valid or not.
The writers shall then revise the draft
manuscript based on the internal review
findings.
Submission of LM for Quality
Assurance

*
Once all necessary revisions based on the
internal review have been incorporated, the
development team shall submit the LM to CID
LRMS/or trained Learning Resource
Evaluators (LREs) of the Division for content,
language, design and layout review.
Revision of Quality Assured LM

The LM with marginal notes as well as the summary of


findings of the content, language and design and layout
reviewers shall be given to the development team for
validation and implementation.
Validation

the process of determining whether the LRs
conform with technical and quality standards.

Finalization of LM

Validated LM shall be returned to the


development team for final revision based
on the findings of the conformance reviewers.
Sign-off of LM for printing and distribution

The ready-to-print (RtP) LM shall be signed off by the


development and/or management team for all DepEd
developed materials prior to mass production and
distribution.
CONTENT

• * accurate, comprehensive, relevant, updated and


contextualized concepts (including information that
is relevant to the subject area and discipline).
• * should have the appropriate assessment
measures and activities. Research materials used
to support their content should be taken from
credible and authoritative sources with necessary
permission for use, if possible.

• * incorporate illustrations, graphics, photographs, audio
clips and videos (if necessary), and
• * materials that are age and developmentally appropriate
for the SHS
• * include questions in increasing level of complexity for
each lesson to guide the learners to develop critical and
creative thinking skills;
• * free from typographical, conceptual, factual,
grammatical, computational, procedural, pedagogical, and
social content errors and plagiarized content.

* LMs should comply with the Republic Act No.


8293 of the Intellectual Property Code of the
Philippines.

* prior to the development of LMs permission for


copyrighted materials used are secured to avoid
copyright infringement as articulated in RA 8293

LMs should not contain traces of plagiarized


materials. All borrowed ideas should be properly
paraphrased and attributed to the author/s and
other copyright holder/s.

Writers should ensure that the sources and


references are credible.

Writers should observe full and mindful


discretion over the sources of information they
will feed the learners. Likewise, writers are
requested to accomplish the Inventory of Third-
Party Contents.
STYLE GUIDE

DepEd Style Guide is a set of guidelines and


standards for writing, organizing, and designing
(formatting) any kind of learning resources for
publication.

following are the references:

1. For basic style concerns: the latest edition of the


Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) by the
University of Chicago Press

2. For grammar and style concerns: the latest edition of


Elements of Style by William Strunk

STYLE GUIDE

To style learning resources written in Filipino,


the DepEd- BLR refers to the grammar rules
and standards set by the Komisyon sa Wikang
Filipino, as directed by Kautusang
Pangkagawaran No. 34, series 2013
(Ortograpiyang Pambansa) and Komisyon sa
Wikang Filipino Manwal sa Masinop na Pagsulat
2014.

Writers • Write the manuscript according to the AIRs-LM standards;


• Approve the illustrations;
• Incorporate comments and suggestions on the manuscript;
• Obtain permission to use copyrighted materials from the
original owners;
• Ensure that the copyright and intellectual property law is
strictly followed during the development process;
• Attend orientation and editorial meetings related to the
development of AIRs-LM;
• Sign off ready to print manuscript; and
• Accomplish the Writers Assignment Agreement, Proforma
Communications Seeking Permission to copy (when needed) and
the Inventory of Third-Party Contents

1. Illustrations shall adhere to the Social Content Guidelines.

2. Filipino characters (if applicable) shall be the subject of


illustration.

3. People, animals, places, and objects shall be appropriate to the


age, grade level and context of the learners.

4. Illustrations shall clarify and/or enhance concepts.

5. Illustrations and visuals shall be gender and culture sensitive.

6. Illustrations shall face toward the page gutter.
7. Enlarging and resizing a raster illustration shall not be more
than once.
8. Cropping in the joints like neck, shoulder, knee and elbow
shall be avoided.
9. Illustrations and visuals shall be attractive and appealing.
10. Illustrations and visuals shall sustain consistency of
style, color, size and angle throughout the manuscript.
11. Illustrations shall be correct, original, realistic, simple,
clear and recognizable.

captioned.

copyrighted illustrations and visuals shall be secured before
using it.
14. The use of photocopied, scanned published illustrations,
screen captured illustrations are prohibited.
15. Illustrations shall be framed only when necessary. Thinner
lines shall be used for the frames than that of the illustrations.
