The Pilot Test

Despite basing questions off of surveys for classes I’ve taken in the past, this survey
would still require a pilot test so I can get feedback on how to improve the survey itself.
An ideal audience for the pilot test would preferably be one that had taken the Children
and Climate Change eLearning short course. Likely, the UN: CC organization would
have records of who had taken the course and would allow an evaluator to contact
previous participants. If I wanted twenty-five responses, I would probably contact 50-75
participants to ensure the desired number could be reached.

The initial email would request participation, and once a response came through, a
follow-up email with the survey and a few guiding questions eliciting feedback would be
sent out. Before sending out the survey, converting it to a Google Form for ease of use
is ideal. Because life gets in the way, I would probably put a time frame on the
completion of the survey and feedback--perhaps ten to fourteen days. At the conclusion
of the fourteen days, I would review all responses and collect them into a data sheet,
doing my best to code the information. For example, suggestions on format grouped
together, suggestions on wording grouped together, suggestions on clarity grouped
together, and so on. Coding has helped me in the past when I was part of a feedback
process and I believe it would be useful here. Additionally, it forces the reviewer to go
over material multiple times. Finally, the information would be used to construct an
improved survey.
