WHAT’S IN?
Discussion
Real life situations can be represented using functions. Examples are presented below
WHAT IS IT?
Let’s work with this?
Due to pandemic the capacity of traditional jeepney were reduced to fifty percent. A
jeepney passenger pays P10.00 for the first 4 km as fare(F) and an additional P3.00
for every succeeding distance x in kilometer.
How will you represent the given using function? Let us try first to complete the table
below:
x in km 2 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 15 24 30
F in pesos 10 10 13 16 19 22 25 28 43 73 88
PIECEWISE FUNCTION
¿ 10.00 , 1< x ≤ 4
F(x) = {
¿ 10.00+ 3.00(x−4), x >4 88, 73, 43, 28, 25
2. A videoke machine can be rented for P1; 000 for three days, but for
the fourth day onwards, an additional cost of P400 per day is added.
Represent the cost of renting a videoke machine as a piecewise
function of the number of days it is rented.
