1. (i) Show that the equation 𝑧𝑥𝑥 + 2𝑥𝑧𝑥𝑦 + (1 − 𝑦 2 )𝑧𝑦𝑦 = 0 is elliptic for values of 𝑥 and
𝑦 in the region 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 < 1, parabolic on the boundary and hyperbolic outside this
region .
(ii) Classify the partial differential equation
