What's New in Yahoo! SiteBuilder 2.2
Welcome to Yahoo! SiteBuilder 2.2, the most powerful, easy-to-use Yahoo! site building software yet. At Yahoo!
Small Business, we understand that you want to develop your web site your way, whether you're an expert
programmer or a web site novice. We're committed to bringing you the most flexible design tools, intuitive interface,
and high-demand features available, so we're proud to announce the latest SiteBuilder enhancements, which make
it easier than ever for anyone to create a sophisticated web site or online store.
Templates
Templates offer one of the quickest ways to develop a professional-looking web presence, but we understand that
our users won't settle for cookie-cutter sites. To help you build the site you want, we've added dozens of multipage
templates, which means you can now choose from more than 380 different designs, including both business (real
estate, law, physician) and personal (hobby, wedding, baby) themes. As always, you can fully customize every
page, and our newly redesigned template tools make selecting a design easier than ever. Learn more.
PayPal Buttons
SiteBuilder now provides a streamlined way to add PayPal buttons to your pages. Perfect for selling products online
or collecting charitable donations, PayPal buttons allow you to affordably accept credit card and other payments.
(Please note that PayPal buttons in SiteBuilder are not designed to work with a Merchant Solutions account.)

SiteBuilder 2.2 Manual
Our most comprehensive site building tool, Yahoo! SiteBuilder gives you the most control over your web site.
Designed for beginners but with the features and flexibility that intermediate to advanced users want, SiteBuilder
offers:
Like all Yahoo! site building tools, SiteBuilder requires no programming skills to put together a professional-looking
web site.
Updating SiteBuilder
We value your feedback and work constantly to improve SiteBuilder and add the new features and tools most
important to you. Keep an eye on your Yahoo! newsletters and in your control panel for announcements; we'll also
alert you to any upgrades when you publish with SiteBuilder.
We recommend that you update your copy of SiteBuilder whenever we make a new version available so that you
can take advantage of the enhancements we regularly provide. And don't worry about losing your work -- we make
sure each new version of SiteBuilder works seamlessly with the previous release.
To update your version of Yahoo! SiteBuilder, first make sure that you are connected to the Internet. From your
computer's Start menu, choose Programs, then Yahoo!, then Yahoo! SiteBuilder; select Update Yahoo!
SiteBuilder. Your version of SiteBuilder will update automatically.

SiteBuilder 2.2 Manual
Before you start working with SiteBuilder, it's important to understand how it works with your computer. You'll use
SiteBuilder just like any other desktop software. SiteBuilder runs on your local computer, which means you can work
with the tool even when you're not connected to the Internet (you will need to connect only when you're ready to
publish). Just as you might open a word-processing program to write a letter, you will open SiteBuilder whenever
you want to create or update pages of your site. And just as you might save copies of your letters and other
documents in folders on your hard drive, you'll save the files that make up your web pages in a special SiteBuilder
folder.
When you begin to create a web page or site with SiteBuilder's Site Creation Wizard, we will ask you to name the
folder in which your web site files will be stored, then choose a location for this site folder. The wizard will suggest a
location for you; unless you are an advanced user and need to store your site elsewhere on your computer, we
recommend choosing the default selection.
A SiteBuilder folder
In the example below, we chose the name "new_site" for the folder that will house our web site files, then chose the
Next button to select the default location for this folder, "sites."
For each site that you build using SiteBuilder, you will create a new web site folder, each with a unique name. We
recommend storing all of your web site folders in the same location. (Please note that you can create as many sites
as you like. Though you can publish only one site per Web Hosting or Merchant Solutions account, you can publish
up to 100 sites with a single Yahoo! ID.)
Have you already created a web site? SiteBuilder makes it easy to import a web site you created using another tool.
When you import your site, SiteBuilder will save your site in the default folder, sites. Unless you are an advanced
user and need to store your site elsewhere on your computer, we recommend that you do not move your site files
elsewhere.
Note: Please be advised that Yahoo! SiteBuilder offers only limited support for web sites built with tools other than
Yahoo! SiteBuilder or Yahoo! PageBuilder that incorporate HTML and/or other programming languages. Yahoo!
SiteBuilder will do its best to interpret imported pages correctly, preserving their original content, formatting, and
layout. However, you should be sure to check all of your pages carefully for errors before saving.
You can also import a web site that you've created outside of Yahoo! by uploading those site files to your Web
Hosting or Merchant Solutions account with FTP, then importing those files into SiteBuilder using the steps above.
Learn how to upload a site to your Yahoo! account in our online help center.
Explore SiteBuilder
In your SiteBuilder Control Panel, you'll find all the tools you need to create a professional-looking web site. Before
you begin working on your site, we suggest you take a moment to familiarize yourself with its features.
● Menu bar: The menus at the top of your screen contain all of the commands and tools you'll need to work
with your site.
● Toolbar: Just below the menu bar, the toolbar contains small icons that represent shortcuts to the most-
used menu commands. Click an item in the toolbar just as you'd select an option from a menu.
● Help: The pane on the far-left side of your SiteBuilder screen offers a variety of help options. The Help
Home tab will get you started; choose the SiteBuilder User Guide tab for an overview of your help options;
or click on the icon for a full index of Yahoo! SiteBuilder Help topics.
● Design pane: In the center of your screen lies the page editing area, where you will create and update your
web pages. You can open several pages at once and navigate between them using the tabs at the top of
the design pane.
● Page Effects pane: Located just below the editing pane, the Page Effects area lists all of the page effects
associated with the current open page, such as backgrounds, page transitions, and cursor trails.
● Site Contents: This pane, found in the upper-right corner of the screen, displays the contents of the web
site currently being edited, including elements such as images, files, and folders.
● Preview: In the bottom-right corner of your SiteBuilder Control Panel, you'll see a small preview of the
currently selected web page.
On the horizontal or vertical bars separating each pane on your SiteBuilder Control Panel, you'll find a small arrow,
which you can use to collapse or expand the module. Click the arrow once to collapse a module you rarely use,
minimizing the space it occupies on your control panel; click it again to expand the module when you're ready to use
those features. You can customize your control panel view anytime by expanding and collapsing the panes. If you're
not ready to work with Page Effects, for instance, you might collapse that module to save editing space.
To quickly expand or minimize panes on your SiteBuilder Control Panel, you can also turn to the View menu. By
clicking items in this menu, you can select only the panes you want to use, or deselect those you don't need at the
moment. Don't worry about "losing" a control panel area: To expand every pane in the control panel, choose Show
All Panes, or select Restore Default View to display all panes in their default size.
Next Steps: Try Out the Site Creation Wizard and Get Started
New to site building? SiteBuilder is the place to start. SiteBuilder's Site Creation Wizard offers a quick and easy way
to get started building your site. You can launch the wizard anytime by selecting New Site... from SiteBuilder's File
menu.
The Site Creation Wizard will walk you step-by-step through the process of creating a basic web page or multipage
web site. When you're finished, you can customize your pages with your own words and pictures. When you're
ready to show your creations to the world, we'll show you how to publish to your Yahoo! account.
We understand that building a site can seem intimidating, so we encourage you to have fun: Take some time to
experiment with SiteBuilder's features, try out the Site Creation Wizard a few times, and explore the SiteBuilder
User Guide. Then start building!

Yahoo! SiteBuilder
Getting Started
Ready to get started? We recommend beginning with our tutorials to create a simple web site in just minutes!
Overview:
Of course, this is just a sample of Yahoo! SiteBuilder's basic commands. Remember that you can add, delete, and
edit pages anytime, so feel free to experiment! If you have any questions along the way, just return to Yahoo!
SiteBuilder's comprehensive Help section for more information.
For background information and key concepts, be sure to review "Before You Begin."
SiteBuilder 2.2 Manual
If you've already built a web page or site with another tool, such as Yahoo! PageBuilder or Microsoft FrontPage, you
can import it from your Web Hosting account into Yahoo! SiteBuilder, then edit and publish it just as you'd work with
a brand-new site.
To open an existing web site, select Open Site... from the File menu and follow the instructions provided. Learn
more.
Note: Please be advised that Yahoo! SiteBuilder offers only limited support for web sites built with tools other than
Yahoo! SiteBuilder or Yahoo! PageBuilder that incorporate HTML and/or other programming languages. If any web
pages in your web site were not originally built with these tools, Yahoo! SiteBuilder will import those pages without
modifying them and do its best to interpret the pages correctly, preserving their original content, formatting, and
layout. However, you should be sure to check all of your pages carefully for errors before saving.
Please be aware as well that web sites imported into Yahoo! SiteBuilder will no longer be editable in Yahoo!
PageBuilder or other site wizards or software. If you are concerned about being able to edit your web site using
another site building tool later, we recommend that you make a copy of your web site files and save them on your
computer before importing your web site.
New to site building? The Site Creation Wizard will walk you step-by-step through the process of creating a basic
web page or multipage web site, getting you up and running in no time. Whenever you're ready to create a new site,
just select New Site... from SiteBuilder's File menu.
You'll select a name for your web site folder; decide whether to start with a blank page or one of our professionally
designed templates; then choose one or more pages, such as a home page and About Us page, to get started
(you'll be able to add more pages anytime). You'll also have the option to automatically create a navigation bar -- a
persistent menu your site visitors can use to explore your pages -- for your new site.
When you're finished with the wizard, you'll have created one or more web pages, canvases on which you can now
add your own words, images, and more.
You can return to your pages now and alter virtually everything about them, ensuring that each page and your site
as a whole meet your exact specifications. Add text and images, change your background color, create links and
site navigation -- you can make your pages as simple or as complex as you like.
To get started working with a page you already created, visit the File menu, choose Open Page..., browse to find
the file you want, and click Open; or, if your site is open, double-click the page's name in the Site Contents pane.
Site Contents pane
Learn how to edit and customize your pages by exploring the step-by-step instructions provided throughout the User
Guide, or go ahead and experiment with SiteBuilder's many tools. Remember that nothing is set in stone! You can
edit and reedit your pages -- whether you start with a blank page or a predesigned template -- anytime.
The second half of this guide will walk you through a few of SiteBuilder's basic features. To learn more about
working with text, images, links, audio and video, and more, see their respective chapters in this guide.
After you've become familiar with some basic functions, be sure to investigate other features such as navigation
bars and forms. When you're ready, you can enhance your site further with SiteBuilder's suite of add-ons, interactive
elements such as counters, search tools, and maps that can make your pages more dynamic and compelling.

SiteBuilder 2.2 Manual
Before you unveil your new web page or site, you'll want to make sure it looks just the way you intended. You can
preview your pages anytime while you work. To take a look at your progress while working on a page, head to the
File menu and choose Preview in Browser. A preview of your page will display in a new browser window.
SiteBuilder works offline, performing all of its functions -- just like a word processing program or other desktop
software -- on your PC. While you're using SiteBuilder to build your pages, you're creating and editing files on your
own computer. Naturally your customers and friends can't access files on your computer, so when you're happy with
your work, you'll want to publish your site so that people can find your pages on the Web.
When you're ready to show your creations to the world, you'll simply copy your page files from the web site folder on
your computer to your Yahoo! Web Hosting or Merchant Solutions account. This transfer is called publishing. When
you publish your web pages, you make them available on the World Wide Web. (Please note that you'll need a Web
Hosting or Merchant Solutions account to publish your site.)
Publishing is only clicks away: First connect your computer to the Internet, if you haven't already. In SiteBuilder,
head to the File menu and choose Publish Site... (or just click the Publish button in your SiteBuilder toolbar), then
follow the simple steps to publish your pages online.
After you publish, anyone will be able to see your site by typing your web address (such as http://www.yourdomain.
com) in a web browser. Not happy with your first try? Remember that you can edit, update, and republish your
pages -- even replace your work with a whole new site -- as often as you like.
Where do you go from here? Your web site doesn't end with the first time you publish: To keep your visitors coming
back, we recommend that you keep your site fresh by updating your content regularly. Keep in mind that Yahoo!
offers dozens of ways to make your site successful. For more information, explore the rest of the SiteBuilder User
Guide or browse our online Web Hosting guides.

Step 2 - Choose a Background Color
Selecting a background color or image is a good way to start building a page or even an entire web site. Often the
background will set the look and feel for your site.
If you chose to build your site using a template, your pages already display a corresponding background color (you
can skip this step). If you chose to start with a blank page, you will select a background color for use on your new
site in this step.
1:
Select Background... from the Insert menu.
2:
Click the box next to Background Color: on the Choose a Background dialog.
3:
Use the color picker to choose your background color, then click OK.
4:
Click OK on the Choose a Background dialog to confirm your selection.

Step 3 - Add Text to Your Site
Yahoo! SiteBuilder's text tools allow you to specify font type, size, and color. In this step, you will add text to a page
of your web site. (If you created your site using a template, the Site Creation Wizard already created placeholder
text for you.) Then you will use the text toolbar to modify your text.
1:
To create a new text box, select Text from the Insert menu. A text box will appear in the center of your page, and
you will see the text portion of your toolbar become active at the top of the screen.
2:
If you're working in a blank page, double-click in the text box, type your name, and then highlight it by clicking and
dragging with the cursor. Select Arial and 16-point font from the pull-down menus and click on the toolbar button
to make your name appear in bold.
If you're using a template, click on any text box to highlight it, double-click on a word, and type your name. Select
Arial and 16-point font from the pull-down menus and click on the toolbar button to make the new word appear
in bold.
3:
Click on the text box and drag it anywhere you like. If you're working with a blank page, try dragging it to the upper-
left corner of the page.
Getting Started
Step 4 - Add an Image to Your Site
Images help to give balance and visual interest to your web pages. In this step you will select an image from your
computer's hard drive to add to your web site. (If you don't have an image of your own, you can use an image from
Yahoo! SiteBuilder's built-in images folder.)
1:
Select Image... from the Insert menu.
2:
In the Choose an Image dialog, click the radio button next to My Images to select an image from your computer's
hard drive. To choose from SiteBuilder's folder of clip art images, choose the radio button next to Clip Art.
3:
Use the Look in: pull-down menu to browse for the image you want to add.
To browse clip art, use the Type: and Subtype: pulldown menus.
4:
To preview an image, click once on the image's file name. You'll see a preview of the image on the right side of the
dialog.
5:
Select an image by clicking once on the image's file name.
6:
Click OK.
7:
Click on the image and drag it anywhere you like. If you're working with a blank page, try dragging it beneath or next
to your name.
Getting Started
Step 5 - Add an Email Link
With Yahoo! SiteBuilder you can add a link to your email address on your site so your visitors can easily contact
you. In this step you will add an email link to one page.
1:
Double-click in the text box that contains your name, then highlight your name by clicking and dragging with the
cursor.
2:
From the Insert menu, select Link To, then An Email Address.
3:
Using the Link dialog, enter your email address in the mailto field, then click Create.
When you preview or publish your page, your name will appear as a link. When one of your web site visitors clicks
on the link, his email program will automatically open a blank message addressed to your email address.
Getting Started
Step 6 - Add a Link to Another Web Site
The Internet wouldn't be the Internet without links. In this step you will learn how to link to other web pages from
pages of your own.
1:
Select Text from the Insert menu. A text box will appear in the center of your page.
2:
Double-click in the text box, type the names or web addresses of some of your favorite web sites, and then highlight
one of them by clicking and dragging with the cursor.
3:
From the Insert menu, select Link To, then Another Web Site.
4:
Using the Link dialog, enter the web address of the highlighted site in the http:// field, then click Create.
When you preview or publish your page, the text you originally highlighted will appear as a link to the web site
whose address you entered in the Link dialog.
Getting Started
Step 7 - Add a Yahoo! Search Box
Yahoo! SiteBuilder lets you add professional, dynamic objects to your web pages -- with no programming! In this
step you will add Yahoo! Search functionality to your own web site.
1:
Select Add-Ons from the Insert menu, then select Yahoo! Search Box.
2:
Click on the search box and drag it wherever you'd like it to appear on the page.
That's it! You've just made Yahoo! Search functionality available to your web site visitors.
Getting Started
Step 8 - Save and View Your Site
The final step to building a web site is saving it and previewing it in a web browser. In this step you will save and
preview your newly created site.
1:
When the Site Creation Wizard created the page(s) of your new site, it saved them for you. To save the changes
you made to one page, select Save Page from the File menu.
If you worked with multiple pages, save all of your changes by selecting Save All Pages from the File menu.
2:
Select Preview in Browser from the File menu. Your new web site will display in a separate browser window.
(Please note that this is just a preview of your pages. To make your site available on the Internet, you will need to
publish your web site.)

Common Questions
How do I publish my web site?
Before you begin publishing your web site, please verify the following:
● Your home page is named "index.html." If you create your site with the Site Creation Wizard, SiteBuilder will
name your home page "index.html" by default. If you created your home page with a tool other than
SiteBuilder, created a new home page, or renamed your home page, be sure to change its name back to
"index.html," or your home page will not display at your domain.
● Your computer has an active connection to the Internet. A simple way to verify your Internet connection is to
open your web browser and try to connect to an Internet web site.
2. If you are not already signed in, you will be asked sign in to your Yahoo! Web Hosting or Merchant
Solutions account. (If you are already signed in but would like to sign in to a different account, you must first
select Change User... from the File menu.)
3. Using the Browse... buttons on the Publish Site dialog, select the folder containing the site you would like
to publish and the folder to which you would like to publish your site. (If more than one domain is associated
with your Yahoo! ID, click Browse... and then use the pull-down menu on the Publish To... dialog to
choose the domain to which you would like to publish.)
4. Using the radio buttons on the Publish Site dialog, indicate whether you would like to publish all of the files
contained in the folder or only those files that have been modified using Yahoo! SiteBuilder.
5. Click OK.
Note: Depending on your Internet connection speed and the size of the site you choose to publish, publishing a site
may take up to several minutes.
If you encounter problems while publishing, please see our troubleshooting tips.

SiteBuilder 2.2 Manual
Common Questions
Why is my image broken?
If an image on your site is broken or does not load completely, it could be referenced incorrectly. When you use
SiteBuilder to add an image to a web page, it automatically updates your page to reference the image name
properly; however, if you have altered your page's HTML manually, you may have introduced errors in the link used
to display your image. Your domain name and file names are case sensitive, so check your links to make sure you
have used the same capitalization pattern. If one letter in your file name is capitalized, and the same letter is not
capitalized in the link that refers to it, SiteBuilder assumes that the files are unrelated, and you'll see a broken image
on your page.
We suggest that you use all lowercase letters in your file names. If you have already named your files, you might
consider renaming them; then make sure the references to these files are also in lowercase. You can review and
modify your file names easily in the Site Contents pane, located in the upper-right corner of the SiteBuilder interface.
If your image will not display at all, first make sure that you have added the image to your site (you should be able to
locate it in your file structure in the Site Contents pane) and published your site. If you have added the image and
published, and the image still does not display properly, try to add and publish it again. The file may have become
corrupted during the uploading process.
Finally, be sure that you have saved the image as a supported file type, and that you have referenced this file type
correctly in your link (if you add your image using the Image... command, SiteBuilder will create the correct link for
you).
You must have a photo-editing application on your computer in order to edit and save photos. Please note that
simply renaming the file type (such as from ".jpg" to ".gif") will change only the name of the image, not the file type.
You will need to open the image in a photo editing application to save the file in a different format.
Common Questions
Can I import a site I created using a tool other than SiteBuilder?
Yes, you can use SiteBuilder to continue working on a Yahoo! web site you created using another tool, such as
Yahoo! PageBuilder or your own site building software, such as Microsoft FrontPage. (Please be aware, however,
that web sites imported into Yahoo! SiteBuilder will no longer be editable in Yahoo! PageBuilder or other site
wizards or software. If you are concerned about being able to edit your web site using another site building tool
later, we recommend that you make a copy of your web site files and save them on your computer before importing
your web site.) The web site must be stored in your Web Hosting or Merchant Solutions account. Learn more.
2. If you are not already signed in, you will be asked to sign in to your Yahoo! Web Hosting account. (If you
are already signed in but would like to sign in to a different Yahoo! Web Hosting account, you must first
select Change User... from the File menu.)

Common Questions
Can I create my own template?
Yes. If you intend to build many web pages using the same basic colors and formatting, you can save time by
creating your own template.
To create your own template, simply create and save the page you would like to use as your template. Be sure to
save this page with a file name you will remember, like "template.html."
Now, whenever you need to create a new web page based on this template, simply open your saved page, make
whatever changes you would like to the page, and save it with a different file name by selecting Save Page As...
from the File menu.
Common Questions
I have more than one Yahoo! ID. How can I sign in using a different Yahoo!
ID?
If you are managing multiple web sites that are associated with more than one Yahoo! ID, and you have recently
published changes to one site, you may need to sign in with the appropriate Yahoo! ID before publishing changes to
another site.
Common Questions
Can I add HTML to my web pages?
SiteBuilder makes it easy to add your own HTML code to any page. You might want to insert HTML if you decide to
use one of the add-ons available online in the Web Hosting Control Panel, for example, or if you copy a page
element from another web site.
(SiteBuilder also allows you to edit the HTML code of any page you've imported or created -- including template
pages. Learn how.)
For assistance with basic HTML coding, please see our online help center.
2. Choose HTML....
3. Type or paste your HTML into the HTML Code dialog.

When you import a site into SiteBuilder using the Import tool, you'll copy the files and organization of a site you have
already stored online in your Yahoo! account to a SiteBuilder site folder on your local computer. Your files must be
saved to this special folder to ensure that SiteBuilder can interpret your files properly.

you'd work with any other site. Then, when you're ready, you can publish the site back to your Yahoo! account.

Yahoo! PageBuilder, Yahoo! SiteBuilder will import those pages without modifying them. If you choose to use
Yahoo! SiteBuilder to modify these pages, Yahoo! SiteBuilder will do its best to interpret the pages correctly,
preserving their original content, formatting, and layout. However, you should be sure to check all of your pages
carefully for errors before saving.
Please note also that the web site stored in your Yahoo! account will not be affected when you import it to

About Publishing
SiteBuilder works offline, performing all of its functions -- just like a word processing program or other desktop
software -- on your PC. While you're using SiteBuilder to build your pages, you're creating and editing files on your
own computer. Naturally your customers and friends can't access files on your computer, so when you're happy with
your work, you'll want to publish your site so that people can find your pages on the Web.
When you're ready to show your creations to the world, you'll copy your page files from the web site folder on your
computer to your Yahoo! Web Hosting or Merchant Solutions account. This transfer is called publishing. When you
publish your web pages, you make them available on the World Wide Web. (Please note that you'll need a Web
Hosting or Merchant Solutions account to publish your site.)
Publishing
Preparing to Publish Your Site
As soon as you've created one or more pages, you're ready to publish! Before you do, we recommend reviewing the
steps below -- your publishing checklist -- to help ensure a smooth publish process.
To preview anytime, head to the File menu and choose Preview in Browser. A preview of your page will display in
a new window. Learn more.
When you create a site with the Site Creation Wizard, SiteBuilder will automatically name your home page file
"index.html." If you have renamed this file or created a new home page with a different name, be sure to restore its
name to "index.html" before you publish, or your home page will not appear at your domain. Similarly, if you have
imported a web site you created elsewhere, be sure your home page file is named "index.html."
Publishing
Publishing Your Site to the Web
Before you begin publishing your web site, please verify the following:
● Your home page is named "index.html." If you create your site with the Site Creation Wizard, SiteBuilder will
name your home page "index.html" by default. If you created your home page with a tool other than
SiteBuilder, created a new home page, or renamed your home page, be sure to change its name back to
"index.html," or your home page will not display at your domain.
● Your computer has an active connection to the Internet. A simple way to verify your Internet connection is to
open your web browser and try to connect to an Internet web site.
Note: Depending on your Internet connection speed and the size of the site you choose to publish, publishing a site
may take up to several minutes.

Using Templates
About Templates
When you installed SiteBuilder on your computer, you gained access to not only a powerful site building application
but also a collection of templates and clip art.
Templates are page designs that you can use as the foundation for your own web site design. Template pages
generally include a background image or color, a distinct area in which you can place your navigation bar, images,
and sample content (only a blank template page will not include sample content). You can edit every element of a
template page just as you'd customize a blank page. Learn how to edit a page.
Template pages provide a convenient way to create a unified look for your web site. When you use the Site Creation
Wizard to create a site, you'll be able to choose a template style and automatically create as many pages from that
template group as you like (a home page, "About Us" page, and "Contact Us" page, for example). Later you can add
more pages -- using the same template, a new one, or no template at all -- and customize or remove the pages you
already created. Learn more about working with pages.
To speed your initial download and installation of SiteBuilder, we have included only a portion of the complete set of
templates and clip art available. You can see which templates you have downloaded to your computer whenever
you are given the option to choose a template page, in either the Site Creation Wizard or the Add New Page dialog.
After you choose a template category, you'll see at the top of the Templates: field the total number of templates in
that category as well as the number you have already downloaded. Individual templates you have downloaded will
also be accompanied in the Templates: field by a checkmark.
Available templates in this category
If you'd like to use a template you have not yet downloaded, first make sure that you have a connection to the
Internet, then choose to preview the template or simply choose Next (in the wizard) or Add Page (in the Add New
Page dialog). If you have not yet downloaded this template, SiteBuilder will prompt you to download it.
Each template includes several useful pages (such as a home page, blank page, and "About Us" page) with a
consistent design, as well as any clip art that might be associated with those pages. You can download more
templates and associated clip art anytime.
If you'd like to download all available templates and clip art at once, visit the Tools menu and choose Download All
Templates.... You'll be asked to confirm your request before the download begins.

Using Templates
Creating a Template Site
Templates provide a convenient way to create a unified look for your web site.
1. Select New Site... from the File menu. If an existing web site is already open, you will be prompted to
close, publish, and save it.
2. Click Start.
3. Choose a name for your web site and choose a location on your computer to store your web site files (we
recommend selecting the default location). Click Next.
5. In this step you can select a template. In the Templates: field, browse the selection to find a template you'd
like to download. (To limit your choices, you can first select a category from the Template categories: pull-
down menu.) Templates you have already downloaded will be marked with a small check.
6. To select a template, click its image once.
7. Choose View Full Size to see a larger preview of the template, or choose Next to continue with this
template.
8. If you have not yet downloaded this template (the template will not be marked with a check), SiteBuilder will
confirm that you'd like to download this template now. Choose OK to continue.
9. Check the box next to each page you'd like to create now (you can always add more pages later). Please
note that the Site Creation Wizard will always create a home page; this checkbox will be selected by default.
10. If you'd like to create a navigation bar now, select the corresponding checkbox. (This navigation bar will link
the pages you've chosen to create with the wizard. You can always add more pages, edit your navigation
bar, or add a new navigation bar later.)

SiteBuilder allows you to add images from either your own computer or SiteBuilder's collection of clip art. If you have
your own logo image, for example, you can save it to your computer then use SiteBuilder to add it to your site. We
recommend saving your images as GIFs (for illustrations and other graphics) or JPEGs (for photos). See all
supported file formats.
To ensure that your web pages load quickly (in other words, to make sure a web browser can display them quickly),
try to keep your image sizes small, and don't fill each page with photos and graphics. The larger an image (in file
size and actual pixel dimensions), the longer it will take to download into a web browser. Whenever you adjust the
dimensions of an image using SiteBuilder, the program automatically optimizes your pictures for the Web, saving it
at the smallest possible file size.
Check out the clip art selection for useful graphics like navigation bar buttons, bullets, and icons, as well as photos,
background images, and more. Clip art images are free of copyright restrictions, so you can use them to spice up
your pages whenever you like.

You can change the player's width and height by modifying the values in the Width: and Height: fields. (Please
note that although you have some flexibility in adjusting your media player's dimensions, the minimum and
maximum size will be determined by the default requirements of the player. Yahoo! SiteBuilder will automatically
adjust your settings if you exceed these boundaries, but we recommend that you review your page carefully to
ensure that your player displays properly.)

Loan Calculator
The Loan Calculator add-on is a specialized tool you can add to your web page to allow your site visitors to quickly
estimate loan payments and related figures. Perfect for businesses such as real estate brokers and banks, a loan
calculator can help add interactivity to your site and make it more attractive to your visitors.
The Loan Calculator add-on works much like a prebuilt form. You can edit the names of each field and change the
placement of the calculator on your page; however, you will not be able to move the calculator fields and their labels
nor change the default field values.

Please be aware as well that, like certain other add-ons and features such as mouseovers, the loan calculator relies
on JavaScript to work properly. If you or your site visitors are having trouble using the loan calculator on your page,

Site Search
Site Search allows your visitors to search for specific content on your web site.
Using Add-Ons
About Site Search
Using the Site Search add-on, you can place a search box on your web page that allows your visitors to search for
specific content on your web site. When a visitor searches for a keyword or phrase in the search box, the Site
Search tool will browse your web site for relevant matches.
You can decide where results of the search are displayed. When you set up Site Search, you'll be given the option
to select one of three results pages:
● default results page: a temporary, plain page created to display the results of each unique search.
● an existing page: a web page you have already created, located in the same directory as the page on which
you're adding Site Search.
● a copy of an existing page: a mirror image of a web page you have already created.
The default results page will display relevant results in a plain page that is generated each time a search is
performed.
If you would like results of searches on your site to be displayed in a page that matches your site's look and feel, we
suggest choosing one of the other options: Select a page you have already created or, if you don't want to introduce
results in an existing page but want to preserve that page style, in a copy of an existing page.
Your results page must be saved in the same site contents folder as the page on which you have added Site
Search. For this reason, SiteBuilder will allow you to add the search results only to web pages in the same folder
(you can make a copy of any page in your site, but you will be able to save the copy only in the current folder).
To display the results, SiteBuilder will add a Site Search Results box to the page you have chosen. You can
reposition and resize the results box just as you'd work with other page elements.
Note: Because installing the Site Search add-on requires creation of the results box on another page, you will not
be able to use the Undocommand to remove Site Search; instead you can use your keyboard's Delete key. Learn

If you like, you can add other interactive features, such as calendars and guestbooks, to your web pages. To do
this, you'll need to get a piece of code online from the Web Hosting Control Panel account and then paste it into an
HTML block on your web page.
To see a list of all available add-ons with their descriptions, visit the Create & Update tab of your Web Hosting
Control Panel and click the "Add-Ons" link.
Select an add-on to get started. You'll see an introduction to the add-on you chose as well as a list of any setup
choices. Finally you'll see instructions for generating and installing the small bit of HTML code needed to display the
add-on. You can add this code to your page using SiteBuilder's HTML Code feature. Learn how.
Note: Some add-ons require that after adding the HTML code to your page, you return to the online add-on
installation page to activate the add-on. If you don't complete this activation step, the add-on won't display on your
page.
If you have a Web Hosting Standard, Web Hosting Professional, Merchant Solutions Standard, or Merchant
Solutions Professional plan, you can also install any of our advanced add-ons, which rely on PHP, Perl, and MySQL
to provide even more interactivity and customization. Advanced add-ons include such tools as an interactive
calendar, online bulletin board, and full-featured content management system.

Premier and Business: To accept debit or credit card payments through your web site, sign up for a Premier or

reserved for businesses; both include the same flexible features. With a Premier or Business account, you can

Please note, however, that with a Personal account, you will not be able to accept debit or credit card payments. To

About Forms
Forms are interactive documents that you can add to your web pages to solicit feedback or other information from
your site visitors. With SiteBuilder's Forms and Form Elements feature, you can easily add a contact or feedback
form to your page or create your own survey, questionnaire, or comments form. After you publish your form, your
visitors will be able to submit their responses directly through your web page with the click of a button. You'll receive
their responses via email.
In addition to two flexible prebuilt forms, Yahoo! SiteBuilder offers all the elements you'll need to create your own
customized form or edit a prebuilt form to fit your needs. You can add multiple forms and form elements to your web
page -- the design is up to you.
You can add a prebuilt Contact Us or Feedback form to your page anytime. Learn how.
Prefer to design your own form? For full customization, you can add a prebuilt form to your page and edit it as
needed, or design your own form. If you'd like to design your own form from scratch, you'll need to create a blank
form before you can add elements such as radio buttons or text fields to your page. The blank form acts as the
canvas on which you can compose your own form. Learn how to create a blank form.
When you insert a prebuilt or blank form, you'll see a square frame on your page. Within the frame of your prebuilt
or blank form, you can add elements such as radio buttons and text fields to create a customized form that meets
your needs. Learn how.

identify the information you receive when a form is submitted to you. Assigning a different name to each list box you
include on a page will make it easier for you to understand the form responses you receive.

Changing Form Properties
The properties dialog allows you to modify the attributes of a form you have added to your web page. Here you'll be
able to set the form action and define the size and coordinates of the form on your web page.
Form Settings
The form settings determine what happens when your web site visitors complete and submit a form to you. By
default, form responses are sent to the email address associated with your Web Hosting or Merchant Solutions
account, and your site visitors will see a default confirmation (or error) page after they submit the form. Only
advanced users should attempt to edit form settings.
Coordinates
Click the Coordinates tab to alter the location or size of the form on your web page. To change its position on the
page along the X and Y axes, change the values in the corresponding fields. You can change the form's width and
height by modifying the values in the Width: and Height: fields.

Receiving Form Responses (Editing Form Settings)
The form settings determine what happens when your web site visitors complete and submit a form to you. By
default, form responses are sent to the email address associated with your Web Hosting or Merchant Solutions
account, and your site visitors will see a default confirmation (or error) page after they submit the form. Only
advanced users should attempt to edit form settings.
1. Right-click the form or any element in the form whose action you want to edit and select Properties.
2. In the Form Properties dialog, click the Form Settings tab if it's not already selected.
3. Click the button next to Use standard options or, if you'd like to fully customize your form's behavior,
Specify custom behavior.
4. If you chose to use the standard options, enter your form action information in the fields provided:
Submit to (email): Enter the email address to which you want the form data sent.
Confirmation page: You can choose a page from your site to function as the page that
appears after a visitor successfully submits his form. Click the first Browse... button to
select your own confirmation page.
Error page: You can choose a page from your site to function as the error page, which a
visitor will see if there is a problem with his form submission. Click the second Browse...
button to select your own error page.
If you chose the custom option, enter an action (the URL of the server to which your data will be submitted)
in the Action:field, then select the radio button next to your preferred method of submitting the form data,
POSTor GET.
5. Click OK.
Note: Only one action may be associated with each form. Changes made to one Form Settings tab will apply to the
entire form.

SiteBuilder 2.2 Manual
You may have encountered frames in other web sites; they are often used to divide a web page into distinct
sections -- or frames -- that can function independently of each other. The frames of a web page might remind you
of the panes of your SiteBuilder console: Each pane (Help, Site Contents, Page Effects), though part of the whole,
can perform its own tasks and functions. (When you scroll down this help page, for instance, your Site Contents file
list doesn't change.)
Although both regular frames and iframes display content from another source, iframes appear not as segments of
the window but as elements within the page, much like images. You can manipulate and position the iframe just like
any other page element.
Please note that recent versions of most browsers support the use of iframes; however, older browsers, such as
Netscape 4.x, may not properly display the contents of an iframe.
One common use of iframes is displaying an inset block of text, much like a newspaper or magazine might display a
related article. For example, you might create a small iframe on your home page that displays your page of
customer testimonials. Your site visitors could then view the testimonials from the home page as well as the
testimonials page itself. (Alternately, you could hide the actual testimonials page and make its contents available
only through the iframe.)
Or perhaps your web site showcases your artwork. You could display your work in an iframe, allowing visitors to
scroll through the iframe to view each piece, while continuing to display your biographical and contact information
below.
Some users find iframes a convenient way to work with recurring text or page elements, such as mastheads or
footers. For instance, rather than typing the same footer information -- Copyright 2005, XYZ Art. All rights reserved.
-- on every page of your site, you could create a single page, "footer.html," that contains this information. You could
then add an iframe to the bottom of each page in your site that displays the contents of footer.html.
Why bother? This strategy can save you time on site maintenance: When it comes time to make a change to the
recurring content -- changing the copyright date to 2006, for instance -- you'll need to alter only a single file (footer.
html, in our example). The iframes will automatically refresh to display the updated content.
Creating the iframe
Tip: If you want to include an iframe in the same location on every page, you might consider making your
own template.
You can also use iframes to display the contents of a page from another web site. Rather than linking to
photographs your colleague posted on his own web site, for example, you could use an iframe to display the photo
gallery itself. If you manage multiple web sites, you could use this feature to easily display important parts of one
web site in the pages of another.
Important note: Please be aware that when you use an iframe to display content from another web site, you are
virtually copying that web site's content into your own page. To avoid possible copyright infringement, we
recommend that you always seek permission if you'd like to display content from another site on your page, and that
you accompany this content with appropriate information about the author.
Furthermore, we suggest that you always include the default border on iframes that will display nonoriginal content,
as omitting the border may blur the distinction between the author's content and your own.

2. Select Iframe.
3. In the Iframe Properties dialog, choose the source of the content that will be displayed in the iframe. If
you'd like to frame a page of another web site, choose Another Web Site and enter the web address (URL)
of that page. If you'd like to display the contents of another page in your site, choose A Page in My Site
and select a page from the corresponding pull-down menu.
4. By default, the iframe will be displayed on your page with a small border. If you don't want a border on your
iframe, click the Frame Border checkbox to deselect it.
5. If you'd like to change the height, width, or location of the iframe on your page, click the Coordinates tab

Height values to change the size of the iframe.
6. Click OK.

Get started in Catalog Manager, where you can add your products and relevant information such as names, prices,
and codes. When you're ready to join your catalog with your web site, you'll need to return to the Catalog Manager
to enable your product catalog -- to "flip the switch" that will make your catalog ready to work with SiteBuilder. You'll
ready your Catalog Manager to export a file, called catalog.xml, that SiteBuilder will use to read your product data.
With your catalog enabled, you're ready to link your catalog with your site! First import your catalog into SiteBuilder
using SiteBuilder's simple import tool, then start building your pages. You'll add Product Modules to your pages
anywhere you'd like to display product information you've stored in your Catalog Manager. Preview your pages, and
when you're satisfied with your work, publish your site. After you publish, your pages will display product information
from your catalog (thanks to the Product Modules you added when you built your site).
Updating your product information is a snap, because the Product Modules and your Catalog Manager do all the
work for you. To update prices, descriptions, and more, you'll just modify the appropriate fields in your Catalog
Manager, republish Catalog Manager, refresh (reload) your catalog in SiteBuilder, and republish your site. After you
republish your site, your web pages will display your new product details.

SiteBuilder 2.2 Manual
Preparing your catalog requires only a few steps. First you'll need to add a field called Product-url to the Default-
table in your Catalog Manager. You then enter a Product-url value for all of your products. When you're finished,
you'll just need to enable your product catalog (making it downloadable in a file called catalog.xml) before you can
begin importing it to SiteBuilder.
1. Visit your Store Manager and sign in to your account, if you have not done so already.
2. In the Store Manager, click the Catalog Manager link to open your Catalog Manager.
3. Click Manage Your Tables.
4. On the Tables page, select Default-table. You'll arrive on the Edit Table page for Default-table.
5. Scroll down the page to the Shopping Fields section and click Edit to go to the Edit Table -- Shopping
Fields page.
6. From the Field Name pull-down menu, select Product-url. This selection will refresh the page, which will
now display the Product-url field.
7. Click Update. You'll return to the Edit Table -- Default-table page.
8. Click Save to complete your edit to the table. You'll return to the Tables page, where you'll see a message
confirming that the Default-table changes were saved successfully.
Figure 1: In this example, we click Edit on the Edit Table -- Default-table page, which takes us to the Edit Table --
Shopping Fields page. Then we select Product-url from the Field Name pull-down menu, which refreshes the
page with the Product-url field displayed.
Note: Notice that a Default Value field appears when you select Product-url from the Field Name pull-
down menu in the Edit Table -- Shopping Fields page. Anything you enter into this Default Value field will
be used as the default value for the field every time you create a new item.
The default value can save you time, especially if you need to create many items in Catalog Manager. You
might, for example, type your web address, such as http://www.my-first-store.com/, in the Default Value
field. The next time you create a new Default-table item in Catalog Manager, that item's Product-url field will
display http://www.my-first-store.com/ by default. You simply need to add the product's file name -- wt01.
html, for example -- to the end of the default value to complete your the Product-url for that item: http://www.
my-first-store.com/wt01.html.
SiteBuilder 2.2 Manual
If you are creating a new product: When you create a new product in Catalog Manager, the product's page and
URL do not yet exist. This information will be created only when you publish the change to Catalog Manager and
then create the page in SiteBuilder.
You should name the page after the product's ID. For example, if your domain is http://www.my-first-store.com, and
the file for the product page is located at the root directory of your account (in other words, the file is located in the
top-level folder of your site, not in a subfolder), the Product-url value for an item with the product ID wt01 should be
http://www.my-first-store.com/wt01.html.
If you created a subdirectory -- called products, for example -- to contain the files for all of your product pages (in
other words, the files are not located in the root directory), the item's Product-url value would be http://www.my-first-
store.com/products/wt01.html.
About catalog.xml:
Using your Catalog Manager, you can publish the data for your Merchant Solutions in an XML (Extensible
Markup Language) file called catalog.xml. You don't need to learn how an XML file works; what's important
to understand is that when you enable the catalog.xml file, you provide a way for a process outside of
Yahoo! (such as SiteBuilder or a third-party marketing program) to import and use your product catalog
data.
1. On the Store Manager front page, in the Promote section, click Search Engines. This takes you to the
Promote Your Site in Search Engines page, as shown below.
2. Locate the catalog.xml field and select the Enabled radio button, if it isn't already (see section A in Figure
2).
3. Click Done. If you're curious about what this file looks like, view it by clicking the Download link.
Figure 2: The Promote Your Site in Search Engines page contains links to more information about search engine
optimization as well as the Export of Store Contents section, which includes your catalog.xml options.

3. You may be prompted to sign in to your Yahoo! Web Hosting or Yahoo! Merchant Solutions account at this
time. Enter your Yahoo! ID and password.
4. Use the Import Store Catalog dialog to select a store catalog to import.
5. Click OK.
6. The Import Progress dialog will appear, allowing you to monitor the catalog import process. When the
Import Completed dialog appears, click OK.
Now you can start creating your first product page.
Refreshing your catalog: Importing your catalog downloads all of the data from Catalog Manager dating from
the last time it was published. If you make any changes to items in your Catalog Manager that you would
like to export to SiteBuilder, you'll need to first republish your Catalog Manager, then re-import your catalog
into SiteBuilder using the Refresh command. Learn how.

SiteBuilder 2.2 Manual
Using SiteBuilder
Using SiteBuilder
When I go to my web address, I see a "Page Not Available" error. What does
this mean?
If you see a "Page Not Available" page when viewing your site, you may need to create an index page.
By default, the page you'll see when you visit your web address is called index.html. If you don't have an index.html
file, our servers will look for a file called index.htm. If your web site does not contain either of these files, SiteBuilder
will display a warning, and your web site visitors will see an error if they try to visit your web address.
When you signed up for your Web Hosting or Merchant Solutions plan, we created an index.html file for you. Your
visitors see this default "Under Construction" page when they go to your domain until you replace it. This file can be
replaced with a page you create using one of a site building tool such as SiteBuilder. If you delete your index.html
file and do not replace it with another home page, you will see an error when you visit your web address.
If you've already created a home page but are not seeing this page at your web address, you may need to rename
your page (for example, if you named your home page home.html, you should change its name to index.html).
1. Locate the file name of the page you would like to rename in the Site Contents pane at the right side of the
screen.
2. Place your cursor over the file name and right-click once with your mouse.
3. Select Rename File.
4. You'll see a box around the file name, which indicates that it's ready to edit. Replace the current name with
index.
5. Select the Enter button on your keyboard or click anywhere in the Site Contents pane to save your changes.
Note: If any other pages in your site refer to the file you have renamed, Yahoo! SiteBuilder will automatically update
those pages. You'll be able to confirm any updates in the Update Site? dialog after you rename the page.
SiteBuilder 2.2 Manual
Using SiteBuilder
My home page says "Under Construction." What do I do?
If you see an "Under Construction" page when you visit your domain (such as http://www.yourdomain.com), you
have not yet replaced the placeholder web page (or home page) we created for you when you signed up for your
plan. This file is named index.html, and can be replaced with a page you create using a site building tool such as
SiteBuilder.
Important: By default, the page you'll see when you visit your web address is "index.html." In order to see your web
site at your domain, your site must include a file called index.html. Files called home.html or default.html, for
example, will not appear by default at your domain.
If your site does not include a file called index.html (either your placeholder "Under Construction" page or a home
page you created yourself), your site visitors will encounter an error when they visit your web address.
I viewed one of my pages online, then made a change to it in SiteBuilder.
Why can't I see the change?
If you don't see changes you made to your site when you view your web site online, first be sure you have published
your changes. You need to publish your site to transfer the updated files from your computer to your web site.
If you still don't see your updates, it's possible that your browser has stored an old version of the page in its cache. If
you're sure you've published your page, try refreshing (reloading) the page by holding down the Shift key on your
keyboard while clicking the Reload or Refresh button on your browser. This will load the latest version of your page
in the browser.
SiteBuilder 2.2 Manual
Using SiteBuilder
I used the File Manager in my Web Hosting Control Panel to make changes to
my page, but when I reopen the page in SiteBuilder, I don't see the changes.
Why?
If you are using Yahoo! SiteBuilder to build your web site, changes you make to your pages in your online File
Manager may not be reflected when you open your software to review your work, and your pages may be damaged.
SiteBuilder and other tools that can be used offline (in other words, without connecting to the Internet) communicate
between two versions of your web site folder and files: those stored on your local computer (your local web site) and
the equivalent files stored on the Yahoo! servers (your remote web site). When you create or update web pages,
you work with files stored on your computer; then, when you publish your web site, you add to or replace the files on
our servers with the latest version of your local files. Each time you publish, you synchronize the remote version of
your web site -- the web site your visitors see on the Internet -- with your local site.
Your online File Manager displays your web site files as they appear on our servers. If you make changes to your
files (such as renaming, moving, or editing them) using File Manager, the changes will be reflected only in File
Manager; they will not affect files on your local machine. For this reason, when you reopen SiteBuilder to work with
your files, you will not see the changes you made in File Manager. When you republish your site, your local web site
files will overwrite any changes you made to your files in the online File Manager.
Please note: Due to the complexity of the SiteBuilder software, we strongly recommend that you do not use a
different site building or editing tool to update pages you've created with SiteBuilder. Using another tool may not
only prevent some of your changes from appearing but also damage your existing files. Learn more about using
multiple site building tools in our online help center.
SiteBuilder 2.2 Manual
Using SiteBuilder
I accidentally deleted my page. Can I restore it?
Yes. Since you created your site with SiteBuilder, you already have a copy of your entire web site stored locally on
your computer. If you deleted a page from your local copy, you may be able to restore your page using the
Snapshot Backups tool, available online in your Web Hosting Control Panel. When you publish your site, you
automatically activate Snapshot Backups, which stores a copy, or takes a "snapshot," of your web site files every
four hours; nightly; and weekly. You can usually use this tool to recover lost files. Learn how in our online help
center.
Because snapshots are taken only every four hours, a file that existed for less than four hours will not be
recoverable. Snapshots are also removed after four weeks; files older than four weeks old cannot be restored. For
this reason, we encourage you to back up your files on your own computer as extra security. (If you build your site
with SiteBuilder, your files are saved on your computer automatically.)
Important: Snapshot Backups saves a copy of your file during each interval only if that file has changed since the
last backup. It does not create a copy of your entire web site with each snapshot.
If you restore a page using Snapshot Backups, that page will now appear in your online File Manager. However, you
will not see the restored page in the local copy of your web site unless you download the page file to your own
computer. In other words, you need to synchronize the remote version of your web site (the one on the Yahoo!
servers) with the local copy of your web site (the one stored on your hard drive). If you don't download the file to

Using SiteBuilder
When I try to preview my site or click a link to an online web page, I
sometimes get an error. Why?
This is a known issue related to Internet Explorer. The Internet Explorer browser (IE) sometimes has trouble
understanding the instructions sent when you preview or click on certain links. When IE can't understand the
preview or link information, it will display an error message instead of opening the new window in which your
preview or the external web page is supposed to appear.
To remedy this problem, we recommend using Mozilla Firefox or Netscape Navigator as your computer's default
browser. When you preview or click links to sites outside of SiteBuilder, the expected new window will open in
Firefox or Netscape instead of IE; neither of these browsers should encounter the same error problem.
To set Firefox as your default browser, open Firefox and select Tools, then Options. In the General section, choose
"Set Default Browser."
To use Netscape, open Netscape, select the Edit menu, then Preferences.... In the Navigator section, click "Set
Default Browser."

Publishing
Troubleshooting
These troubleshooting tips should help with problems you might encounter when trying to publish your web site.
For instructions on disabling or reconfiguring your software, please consult your software's help documentation. For
your own security, be sure to disable your software or grant access to Yahoo! SiteBuilder only when trying to import
a site or publish with SiteBuilder. If you use a router, be sure to verify that the built-in firewall is not disabling
SiteBuilder's Internet connection.
If, when trying to publish or import your web site, you encounter a sign-in or user name/password error, the secure
connection could be to blame. First try disabling or reconfiguring your firewall or antivirus software (see the previous
tip). If you still cannot publish or import your site, try disabling the secure connection.
Note: For your own security, be sure to disable the secure connection only when trying to connect to the Yahoo!
servers.
A SiteBuilder folder
If you don't see the site you want to open, you may have saved the site in a different folder on your computer. To
locate a site in a different folder, select Standard file chooser at the top of the Open Site menu instead of
SiteBuilder sites. You can use the Look in: pull-down menu just below to navigate to the site you'd like to open.
If you're importing a partial site that you want to merge with a site you've started building in SiteBuilder, you might
want to import your files into an existing site folder. If you choose this option, be sure to keep an eye on any
warnings SiteBuilder may display during the import process so that you don't inadvertently overwrite existing files
that you intend to preserve.
For the simplest import path, we recommend creating a new site each time you begin the import process. (If you
haven't already used SiteBuilder to start building a site, you'll be required to create a new site before you can begin
importing.) Downloading your imported site files to a brand-new SiteBuilder folder will ensure that you don't
overwrite any existing files and help you keep your sites organized. Creating a new folder for each site will also help
avoid confusion when it comes time to publish.
If you import a web site that was created using a different site building tool (including other Yahoo! tools, such as
Yahoo! PageBuilder), SiteBuilder will do its best to interpret the pages correctly, preserving their original content,
formatting, and layout. However, due to variations in HTML and other site building code, SiteBuilder sometimes has
trouble translating your site files into a form that it can display properly. You should be sure after importing a site to
check all of your pages carefully for errors before saving and publishing.

Although you can use the Audio Properties and Video Properties dialogs to change the default player, please be
aware that certain file types are not compatible with some players. If you choose a player that is incompatible with
your file, the link to the file on your web page will not work, and your site visitors will not be able to hear your audio
clip or see your video (instead they will see a "broken" icon). We recommend that only advanced users alter the
default player selection.
To open the Audio Properties or Video Properties dialog, right-click on the file you want to modify and choose
Properties.

Using Add-Ons
Troubleshooting Site Search
Use these troubleshooting tips to solve problems you might encounter when working with the Site Search add-on.
The Site Search add-on relies on a complex Yahoo! search tool that indexes your site contents at regular intervals.
When the tool indexes your site, it reviews your text for any updates; then it makes those updates available to the
Site Search add-on. Because the Yahoo! search mechanism scans your site at designated intervals, you may
occasionally notice a lag between when you update your site and when those changes are reflected in your Site
Search results.
If your search results appear in a default page rather than a page you specified, you may have renamed, moved, or
deleted your results page. Because the specified results page has changed, the Site Search box can no longer
successfully display its results there and has used a default page instead.
For example, you may add Site Search to your home page, index.html, and specify that the page results.html should
display your search results. If you later change the name of results.html to resultspage.html, the Site Search box --
unable to find results.html -- will instead display results in a temporary default page. Similarly, if you delete results.
html, Site Search will post your results in a default page.
Your Site Search box and results page must also be saved in the same site contents folder, or directory. When you
add a Site Search box to your web page, SiteBuilder will automatically create your results page in the same
directory. If you use your online File Manager, FTP, or another tool to move your results page into a different
directory (for example from www.yourdomain.com/dir1/ to www.yourdomain.com/dir2/), Site Search will no longer be
able to successfully display your results on the page you intended; your search results will appear in a default page
instead.
Note: SiteBuilder will warn you of potential problems whenever you attempt to rename or move a Site Search
Results page. Please be aware, however, that if you make changes to your file organization using your online File
Manager, FTP, or another tool, SiteBuilder will not be able to detect issues that may affect the functionality of this
add-on.
You may have deleted the Site Search box's corresponding results field. When you add Site Search to a page and
choose to display your results on a page of your own creation (rather than a temporary default page), SiteBuilder
adds a Site Search Results field to the page you specify. This field represents the area in which results of a search
will be displayed. If you delete this results field, searches performed in the corresponding Site Search box(es) will no
longer generate any results.
To create a new results field, return to its corresponding Site Search box, right-click on the box once, and choose
Properties. Here you can select a results page you already created or create a copy of a page in your site on which
to display your search results.
When you add Site Search to a web page, SiteBuilder will create a Site Search Results field on another page of
your choosing. Because this add-on affects a page other than the one on which you're installing Site Search, you
will not be able to use the Undocommand to remove Site Search; instead you can use your keyboard's Delete key.

Updating your catalog is a two-step process: After you make a change to an item in Catalog Manager, you'll need to
republish your catalog to make the new information available to your published web site. Then you must ensure that
your SiteBuilder site has a way to access this information. SiteBuilder uses your catalog.xml file to read your product
data, so you simply need to provide the most current version of that file by refreshing your catalog.
If you modify your products in Catalog Manager and refresh your catalog in SiteBuilder, but forget to republish your
catalog, your SiteBuilder site will be using a newer version of your catalog than the catalog you last published, and
your web site will display errors. To solve the problem, just return to Catalog Manager and publish your catalog.
Learn how.
If you still see errors on your pages after republishing your catalog, you may need to correct additional problems
with your Store Tags. Learn more about troubleshooting Store Tags.

The Inscription value of a product can include only numbers. Inscriptions formatted differently -- such as #3 or no. 3,
for example -- will cause SiteBuilder to display an error when it finishes importing your catalog.
To complete the importing process, SiteBuilder will automatically correct an error in the Inscription field by replacing
an improperly formatted value with a default value of 3. If you'd like to use this value, no further action is required on
your part. To modify this default value, you'll need to return to your Catalog Manager to correct the data, republish
Catalog Manager, then refresh your catalog in SiteBuilder. Learn how.
