Synonym/ Restatement Clues
A word or phrase that shares the same meaning with another word or phrase.
- Signal words: also, as, like, same, too

The mountain pass was a tortous road, winding and twisting like a snake around the
trees of the mountainside., arrived at her decision.

III. Activity Procedure:


Step 1: Read and analyze the words that come before and after the unfamiliar word.
Step 2: Think about the meaning of the words in the text that surround the unfamiliar word.
Step 3: Use the word’s synonyms in the context to know the meaning of the unfamiliar word.
