Hospitality Tourism Marketing
1. Using a product from the hospitality industry illustrate with suitable
example the following Core products, facilitating products, Supporting
products, and Augmented product.
Well, airlines have been playing a crucial role in hospitality industry. From taking
off with almost hundreds of passengers along with their valuable luggage and finally
landing them safe to their destination, flights have been playing an extremely
important role in human lives. I believe that, I won’t be wrong if I define airlines as
the backbone of the world to connect people and places.
I had been to Turkey by Turkish airlines last July, for my industrial exposure
purpose. No doubt, Turkish airlines is one of the most luxury airlines in the world.
It was not mine first international flight, but still I was so excited and amazed by the
service and facilities. It was beyond my expectation.
Let me explain the core products, facilitating products, supporting products and
augmented product of these airlines as per my experience.

a) Core products
Basically, core products are the fundamental products of a business or
company. Customers directly pay the monetary amount to a particular
business or company to buy these products. So, when we talk about the
airlines their core product is transportation. They facilitate people to travel
from one place to another with their belongings around the globe under
certain time period.

b) Facilitating products
These products generally support the core products. Passengers were
offered a light meal along with the beverages such as tea, coffee and
various juices with warm service. Even blankets were provided to the
passengers who were feeling cold.

c) Supporting products
These products add value to the core products. Turkish airlines don’t like
its passengers getting bored. So, it has even thought about recreation in the
sky and arranged monitor for every seats passenger that features live flight
location with front & aerial camera view and various sorts of entertainment
such as music and movies.
d) Augmented products
These are the services that enhance the quality of a particular product.
Turkish airlines have gone an extra mile to satisfy its passengers by
providing additional kits bag that includes razor & shaving cream, tooth
brush & paste, sleeping masks, shocks and even slippers.

Hence, behind a core product there are other supportive products from
different aspects that collectively make a complete product to satisfy the
customers.

2. Most of the new ideas for a product or service come from the customer. Do
you agree? Why or why not?
Yes, I certainly agree that most of the new ideas for a product or service come from
the customer. As we all know that, customers are the integral part of the business
economy. Almost all the products which are available in the market for buying, are
made for the customers. If customers would not have consumed or bought the certain
products, the world economy would not have reached at the current peak level.
The beginners who are planning to launch a new business in the market, research the
local market first and collect the ideas and information from the folks. Even the
business persons who are already existed in the market with their initial products and
still planning to launch a new item, grab as much ideas as they could.
Most of the business succeed today have reached at this level due to acceptance of
the customer feedbacks, their reviews and realizing own weaknesses.
For example, International hotel chains such as Marriott collect their guests reviews
from online portal like TripAdvisor, Guest satisfaction surveys (GSS) and official
comment cards which are given along with the bill holder. These organizations
prioritize the value of customer feedback. They’ve built their entire brand around
customer feedback.
Virtually every company, that’s been able to figure out most of their customer needs,
has a great feedback gathering process.
3. Imagine that you are going to start a new business or hotel in your locality.
What kind of marketing research you will do and why?
For me it’s my dream project to run a college offering bachelors degree in
hospitality management in Kathmandu. For this, I will go with survey.
Survey research is the collection of data attained by asking individuals questions
either in person, on paper, by phone or online. Conducting surveys is one form of
primary research, which is the gathering data first-hand from its source.
We will approach to different educators, academic institutions, and even local people
in the community. I will initiate to gather data and information from +2 students
studying at different colleges located in different cities of Nepal and even those who
are waiting the +2 result and preparing the entrance examinations.
We will go to the colleges, entrance institutions, meet the students, conduct a
presentation session and promote the scope of hospitality management sector in
Nepal and even across the global market.
We will distribute survey forms to the students in order to get their personal info
along with their course of interest after intermediate or +2. As per our survey result,
we will get to know the general idea and average number of students willing to
pursue their career in hospitality industry.
The reason behind doing the survey is that, it provides the fact number and data of a
particular mission. It works on statistical base and is less time consuming. It can be
administered remotely via online or telephone. It is a good option to collect data
from large number of respondents.
