INTRODUCTION

Hospital waste poses a significant impact on health and environment. Inadequate management of
biomedical waste can be associated with risks to healthcare workers, patients, communities and
their environment.

METHOD
The study aimed to assess the relationship between the level of awareness and practice on
hospital waste management. To make these possible, researchers used a quantitative descriptive
correlational method research. The target was the hospital staff of Vicente Gullas Memorial
Hospital with the total population of 60hospital staff from four different year department. The
researchers used a standardized questionnaire recommended from the Center for Diseases
Control and Prevention as a main tool in gathering data.
The factor mean of the five items namely segregation, recycling, treatments, trainings and
transportation was used to correlate with awareness and practices.
The results obtained upon correlating the level of awareness and practice showed that
there is significant relationship. On segregation and recycling, the staff was moderately aware
and practice; while on the areas of treatment and transportation shows that staff are also
moderately aware and practice. The giving of competency trainings about awareness and practice
were resulted from moderately aware but fairly practice. Through the findings being presented,
therefore the researchers conclude that there is positive relationship between the awareness of the
hospital staffs to its practice indicates how significant it is to determine how aware a person is
when dealing how to properly dispose the waste in the hospital.
