2011 1st Annual Louisiana Black State Dinner

Sponsorship Committee
About Louisiana Black State Dinner
Louisiana Black State Dinner was established to bring prominent and distinguished African
Americans together to celebrate their achievements on both the state and national levels. We
come together to honor these great men and women on a grand night. The things they have
done for our state and nation do not go unnoticed and this dinner is just a small token of
appreciation.

One of the most important highlights of our dinner will be the “Lifetime Achievement Award”
which will honor an African American leader from Louisiana who has served our great state
with honor and has been a champion for issues that affect African Americans the most.

The Louisiana Black State Dinner Vision and Mission

One of the most quoted African Americans in history is undoubtedly Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The legacy he left is passed down from generation to generation and crosses over age and racial
lines a like. Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you
doing for others?” A strong belief in this idea and the strong desire to highlight our history and
envision our future is the impetus for the creation of The Louisiana Black State Dinner. From
fighting for Civil Rights to the Barack Era, Louisiana is moving forward, but still lacks quality
education and for that our children, African American children, have suffered. Our cause is to
bring leaders together to shed light on the real issues of Louisiana.

We know a dinner cannot solve the problems of our state but a dinner can be a starting point
where we can come together as a united front to bring awareness to the issues that plague the
African American community. Unless we find a way to bring together resources, to give all
people a chance at becoming contributing, productive citizens, our future will certainly be less
that we would hope for and our history not as rich as it could be.

We cannot achieve any degree of success alone. But working in partnership—as individuals and
as entities- we can bring more people through the “gate.” We can begin to offer all our
children, and ourselves, a state in that dream we all share with Dr. King – a dream of a world in
which are judged not by the color of our skin or the disadvantages of our past, but rather by our
humanity.
