50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 1: Choose your niche or market.

Too many ebay ebook sellers tend to list any ebook they can get
their hands on. But there is nothing to say you have to do the
same.

Remember Quality is much better than Quantity.

You could decide to sell baby related ebooks and parenting guides,
these ebooks are always top sellers on eBay.

You could sell how to ebook guides on getting traffic to your

website, how to get higher search engine rankings.

You could sell dieting, fitness and beauty care ebooks.

Remember, when an ebayer buys an ebook from you, it’s more than
likely that they are interested in that particular subject and will
therefore become a repeat customer and more importantly a regular
customer.

Step 2: Watch your competition don’t copy them.

It’s always a good idea to find out who your competition is on eBay.

I’m not telling you to copy everything they do, but at least KNOW
what they are doing.

Sign up for their mailing list; learn how they are getting customers
to their ebay store or items. Watch how they promote the items
they are selling. Use their experience to improve your own items
and sales.

Look for any flaws they have in their auctions, perhaps they don’t
link to their other items, maybe they don’t have an about me page,
this is where you can move in and STEAL their customers.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 3: Imagine the next sale.

Try to imagine the next sale, if someone buys an ebook about

keeping fit, what other ebooks would they be interested in? Perhaps
they would also like information on healthy recipes or low fat
recipes.

There are thousands of resell rights ebooks on the internet today,

choose a subject you’re interested in, or have a good knowledge of.
Get your hands on some good related ebooks and what your repeat
customers increase daily.

Step 4: Start small and grow your ebook business.

There is no point listing thousands of ebooks immediately. Start off

small and gradually grow your ebay business. List a few ebooks and
see what works. Remember it doesn’t cost a high amount of money
to list an ebook but listing thousands will soon see your ebay fees
eating up any, if not all of your profits.

Step 5: Try, Try and Try again.

Keep testing your ebook auctions to see what works. Keep trying
different titles and different Item descriptions, if your ebook is not
selling it’s probably due to a bad description or title. Keep working
on your auctions until you have a system that works then apply it to
all your auctions.

Step 6: Use a Standard Template for all your ebay ebook

auctions.

Using a standard template on your ebay auctions listings will give

the appearance that you are an expert in your field. If you can’t
design your own template search for free ebay templates that you
can use. Make sure your template for auctions always contains links
to your about me page, your feedback, your ebay shop or other
items and to add you as a favourite seller.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 7: Buy new ebooks and stay up to date.

If you have targeted a certain niche or subject, and you are getting
repeat customers, they will eventually have purchased every ebook
you have. So you have to buy new ebooks and expand your ebook
business. If you don’t, you will lose the regular ebay customers you
worked so hard to find.

Search on ebay and on the internet for new titles related to your
subject and make sure you are selling the most up to date ebooks.
But don’t buy every single ebook immediately, choose your
purchases wisely and only buy quality ebooks.

Step 8: Always offer a 100% refund.

Make sure any ebook you list on ebay is of the highest quality, and
then you can offer a 100% refund if a buyer is not happy. Do not be
scared to offer refunds, if the ebook you are selling contains good
information and does what is says on the tin, so to speak, you won’t
be inundated with refund requests.

Step 9. Read the Ebook, Use the Software.

If you are selling an ebook, always read it first. This will tell you if
the ebook has good content and may also give you some help
adding to the description.

Remember many ebooks are “live” and require an internet

connection, so if the ebook author has removed the page from their
website, the ebook will no longer work, and you will be giving a
refund and receiving a negative feedback.

If you are selling software make sure you use it! There is nothing
worse than a buyer emailing you and asking question about the
software and you can’t answer it. It will make you look
unprofessional and the buyer will probably never buy from you
again.

It’s also a good idea to check any links in an ebook, never sell an
ebook that contains outdated links or links that go to “page cannot
be displayed” again buyers will not be happy.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 10. Give it time.

You are not going to start selling 100 ebooks per day immediately,
it takes time. So have patience. Give ebayers and the Search
Engines some time to find you and your items for sale. Slow and
steady is always a good rule, many ebook sellers will tell you that
selling ebooks is simple, and it is ONCE IT IS SET UP.

Step 11. W.I.I.F.M

When you sell an ebook, or any item on eBay for that matter,
ebayers will always ask themselves the same question, “What’s In It
For Me?”. You need to list the benefits of buying the ebook,
convince the potential buyer that they simply can’t do without this
ebook.

There is not point simply rambling on about all the great things your
ebook or software can do, describe exactly how the ebook will affect
the buyer personally.

If it’s a dieting ebook, tell people how great they will feel when they
lose weight, how happy they will be when their clothes fit better,
how their self esteem will be boosted with lots of comments on their
appearance from friends and family.

Step 12. Start a mailing list or newsletter.

If you have an eBay shop, you can start your own newsletter, you
can use this newsletter to send out emails advising ebayers of new
ebook items you have listed.

If you don’t have an eBay shop you can still set up a mailing list, I
personally use Aweber but there are many autoresponder mailing
lists available on the Internet just do a search on Google. Some are
even free but will include advertising or limit you to only 10
messages.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 13: Automate as much as you can.

As you eBay eBook Business grows you will begin to sell lots of
ebooks. You will need to devise a system for ensuring buyers can
access their downloads. There are many good instant digital
delivery system you can use. I recommend MYDD you can fully
automate all your ebook deliveries.

It’s also a good idea to set up an automatic response on your email

account for any enquires that you receive, simply saying “Thank you
for your email you will receive a response within 24hrs, in the
meantime check out my website here xxxx or my ebay shop or
items here xxxx”.

Step 14. Back End Sales.

Once you have made an ebook sale on ebay FOLLOW UP. Send a
polite email to ask if the buyer received their ebook download.

Remember you don’t have to simply give a buyer a direct download

link, send them to a download page. On this download page you can
have a sign form to your Autoresponder, you could have a link to
your website, you could have a link for an affiliate product that will
earn you a commission, you could have google adsense ads
displayed, there are lots of ways to make additional sales or
revenue AFTER an ebay ebook sale.

Take a look at just one of my download pages and see what I do:

Ebay Beginners Guide Download Page

Step 15: Don’t Give Up!

No matter how low your sales are, no matter how bad things look,
don’t give up. It may even look like everything is going wrong! But
stick with it! Just keep trying and testing. It takes time to build up
an ebay ebook business but if you keep working at it you will finally
make a breakthrough.

If your ebooks are not selling, change the title, change the
description. Each time you sell an ebook, improve the listing, don’t
simply click to relist, that’s plain lazy! Try and improve your item
listing every single time it sells.

The above 15 steps were taken from my blog www.inside-

ebooks.net/blog.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Here are another 35 steps you can take to ensure your eBay eBook
Business is a buzzing success!

Step 16. Attention Grabbing Titles.

If you ebooks don’t have great titles then 2 things will happen, they
won’t get very many views from ebayers and 2 they won’t sell.

Remember most people only search eBay by title, not by

description, and that means that you only have those 55 characters
of the title to cover all the possible search terms.

Read these posts on my old blog about how to get a great selling
title:

http://sallys-ebooks.blogspot.com/2006/07/advanced-search-
function-on-ebay.html

http://sallys-ebooks.blogspot.com/2006/07/importance-of-ebook-
title-description.html

Don't bother with eBay clichés: There are plenty of eBay auction
titles that say things like "Super rare camera wow look low price".

These are stupid things to put in your title, as no-one is going to

search for them, you are wasting characters or words.

Think like a buyer, if you were looking for your item, then what
exactly would you type into that box?

Do a demo search your self for your item and see which words
spring to mind. Remember only use words like resell rights if you
are targeting other resellers, a “normal” ebayers doesn’t even know
what resell rights are.

See if your ebook is already on ebay and check which sellers are
selling the most copies, then try and copy their title style.

Don’t use the most obvious title for your ebook auctions, thousands
of other people will be using the same one and a buyer knows by
searching on this title they may find the ebook cheaper elsewhere.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 17. Writing Descriptions that SELL.

Once your title has drawn the buyers in to view your ebook auction,
the next thing to do is to tell them all about your item with the
description.

Treat your description like a for sale ad, which is exactly what it is,
but don’t make it obvious. You're trying to get buyers excited about
your ebook , and that's usually hard , but on eBay, if you have the
right thing to sell and give enough details, the buyers almost excite
themselves.

Don’t ever have a two or three line description, this will convince a
buyer not to buy!

Write as much detail as you possibly can and make your listings
informative and descriptive but most of all list the specific benefits
for the potential buyer to see.

Never make any false claims in your ebay item title or description.

Step 18. Using Ecover Images.

Always show a good professional ecover image for your ebay, a

picture paints a thousand words and a tacky, cheap ecover will do
your ebook no justice at all. Better still learn how to design your
own ebook ecovers and really have your ebooks stand out from the
rest. Some great software for ecover creation can be bought here:
www.stylingecovers.com.

Step 19. About Me Page.

Add an About Me page: You'll be surprised how much you can

reassure bidders just by creating an About Me page and putting a
little bit about yourself on your business on there.

You can also have a few special offers there for people who bother
to look at the page, and let people subscribe to your mailing list so
that you can email them updates.

You can easily build up your own mailing list using and
autoresponder such as aweber, or if you have an ebay shop you can
get sign ups to your newsletter.

Remember you are also allowed to link to your ebook website too!

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 20. Gaining Customer’s Trust

If an ebay customer trusts you they are more likely to buy from you
again. This is where you can use Square Trade. Simply by signing
up and displaying their logo on your auctions shows that you are
committed to have them resolve any disputes that arise.

Step 21. Terms and Conditions

Have any Term and Conditions clearly visible on all your ebook
listings, giving details of things like your refund policy, how the
customer will receive their download etc etc. This will avoid any
confusion and reduce the amount of query emails you will receive
regarding your auctions.

Step 22. Use Feedback comments to enhance listings

If you have a particularly great feedback comment about one of

your ebooks, copy and paste it into the listing, that way viewers will
see the comment which is backing up the claims in your auction
description and compel them to purchase it.

Step 23. List the Benefits.

Benefits not features: Make sure your description focuses on the

benefits that your item can give to the customer, not just its
features. This is a classic sales technique. If you have trouble with
this, remember: 'cheap' is a feature, 'save money' is a benefit.

If the auction is for a diet ebook, paint the picture of the buyer
having lost weight in their mind. Tell them how great they will feel
when they lose weight, how their family and friends will compliment
them on their new figure, how fantastic it will be buying new slim
fitting clothes etc. Get inside the buyer’s mind, paint a wonderful
picture and your item will quickly sell.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 24. Listing More Ebooks

List more ebooks items!

If you want more people to respond to your ebook auctions, then

list more items, but be careful not too list too many of your listing
fees will eat up all your profits.

If you have a fast selling ebook you may want to list as a Dutch
Auction and offer 5 copies of the ebook.

Another way is to list 5 of the same ebook but with different titles,
this way you will reach a wider audience for the same ebook.

Step 25. Don’t just accept paypal.

Use different payment methods, not everyone has a paypal account,

make sure you accept cheques and postal orders, then once the
payment is received or cleared, send out the ebook link. Remember
many newbies online are terrified of being scammed online and still
prefer old methods of payment.

Step 26. Send out feedback reminders.

Send out feedback reminders, the higher your feedback score the
more professional you look. Remember feedback also gives you free
advertising, each person that sees feedback you have left for
another buyer may potentially come and visit your auctions, get
your ebay id seen everywhere.

Step 27. Follow up sales

Always follow up your sales with a polite email to check the buyer
received their ebook and is happy with their purchase. You can also
put in a link to your ebay shop or ebook website and generate some
free traffic for yourself.

Step 28. Plan your listings

Don’t just list ebooks when you have time, plan your listings, try to
have your auctions ending in the evenings when most people will be
on ebay. A Sunday afternoon or evening is a great time to have
your listings end. Remember most auctions generate the most
traffic when they are nearing the end so you want as many people
bidding on your auctions as possible.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 29. Bid on other peoples ebook auctions

Remember bidding on other ebook seller’s auctions can help

generate traffic and sales from your own ebay listings. Find 1p
ebook auction starts and place a bid, the more people viewing the
item will see your ebay id and visit your auctions. Plus the seller
already sells ebooks and may buy some ebooks from you. And you
might even get some good ebook title for just 1p.

Step 30. Cross promote with other ebook sellers.

Ebay allows you to cross promote your items with 10 other sellers.
This means that each time one of those 10 sellers sell an ebook,
ebay will automatically display one of you ebooks at the checkout,
again free advertising for free. Choose ebayers who regularly sell
lots of ebooks and you will generate a whole lot of traffic to your
own auctions.

Step 31. Post in ebook or ebay related forums and blogs

When you post in forums you are normally allowed a signature. So

each time you post information on the forum your name will appear
under it with a link of your choice, you can choose to link to your
ebay shop or ebook website.

Search on google and yahoo for ebook related blogs and leave
posts, again you can add your url and get more free traffic to your
ebay items, shop or ebook website.

Step 32. Write eBay Guides.

Writing eBay guides can be a great way of generating more free

traffic to your auctions. Plus if you write a few ebay guides you will
get a nice little logo beside your ebay id stating “Top 25 Reviewer”
or “Top 100 Reviewer” which gives you the appearance of being an
authority in your field.

Step 33. Write and submit Articles.

Write articles and submit them to article directories, you are allowed
an author’s biography box where you tell readers to visit your
auctions, about me page or ebook website. Plus these articles can
be reprinted by other website owners on their sites thus giving you
lots of links to your website or ebay shop etc.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 34. Use Auctions to promote your other items.

If you are selling an ebook titled “1000 New Baby Names” then it’s
quite obvious that the buyer, if they are not a reseller, is a mom or
dad to be, so you can put in your listing, visit my ebay shop or view
my other items where I have a “Breast feeding guide” for sale, or a
“Baby safety ebook“ or “Make your Baby a Super baby” etc etc. Try
and link your auctions to other relevant ebooks you are selling, this
will increase your chance of multiple sales.

Step 35. Ask buyers for testimonials.

A great way to enhance your item listings is to get “real life”

testimonials. When you sell an ebook or software product, contact
the buyer and tell them they can have a free ebook of their choice
in return for a testimonial, many people will be happy to do so.
Then take the best testimonials and add them to your description.

Step 36. Watch this item.

It’s a good idea to add a link for the person viewing your auction to
add it to their watched items in their ebay. They may be interested
in your auction but not purchase it immediately, but if you can get it
added to their watched items they may come back and buy later, or
come back and view your other items.

Step 37. Use Auctiva to promote other items.

Auctiva can give you a scrolling bar showing all your other items,
this is very useful and can easily increase your sales. Get it here for
free:

Step 38.Only sell ebooks that you have a reseller licence for.

If you are reselling ebooks on ebay make sure you have a reseller
licence, if ebay then removes any of your ebook items you can
quickly prove you are an authorised reseller and have your listing
reinstated.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 39. Don’t Use Counters in your listings.

When selling items on ebay don’t use counters to track how many
hits your listings has received.

This is for 2 reasons, the first reason is that if your auction has
received only a few hits it reduces the popularity appearance of
your auction and the urgency for the viewer to buy it now, ie. Not
many people have seen the item therefore there is no rush to buy
it.

The second reason is if your auction has had lots of hits but no sold,
this again it affects the buyer’s opinion of your auction because if
100 people have looked at your auction and not bought it, then the
buyer will think they should not buy either.

Step 40. Don’t Just sell other peoples ebooks.

Write your own ebook! It’s not as hard as you think! Pick a subject
you have a good knowledge of and write a simple ebook. Once you
have written your ebook you can add a link to your ebay id, your
ebay shop or even your ebook website.

Step 41. Don’t charge postage or shipping costs.

You are not selling a physical item and buyers know this, don’t be
tempted to add a postage charge to boost your income, ebay does
not like excessive postage charges and you will appear dishonest to
the ebay buyer too. If you want to make more money, increase the
price of the ebook.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 42. Allow ebayers to contact you.

Always have a contact email in your listings for any questions a

potential buyer may have. Never use your personal email, sign up
for a free googlemail or hotmail account and use that. Remember to
make your email the same as your seller id. If you have an ebook
website you will have many free email accounts included, this will
enhance your appearance ie. Sending an email to
Julie@netscape.com looks unprofessional but sending an email to
admin@superebooks.co.uk looks professional. People can also work
out from the email address that your website is called
www.superebooks.co.uk and will visit it.

Remember to set up an auto response for your email address,

stating the sender will receive a response within 24hrs and put a
link to view your ebay items or shop and / or visit your website.

Step 43. Avoiding Negative Feedback.

Only leave feedback when the buyer has done so, this can
sometimes appear unfair as the buyer has completed their part of
the deal, but they are less likely to leave you a negative for fear of
receiving a negative themselves.

The customer is always right, be polite and civil, offer a refund or an

alternative ebook of their choice for free. If you have a particularly
difficult ebayers who does leave a negative feedback, apply to ebay
to have it removed, if this cannot be done, don’t worry too much,
any publicity is good publicity. You can also add this difficult buyer
to your blocked bidders list so they cannot bid on any of your future
auctions.

Step 44. Offer a free bonus with every purchase.

It’s a good idea to give your customer a freebie with their purchase.
When you email them to check if they received their download, offer
them a free ebook from your website (this means they will visit your
website and see all your ebooks) or if you don’t have a website
search the internet for ebooks that you can brand with your website
/ ebay shop url or affiliate links and give that ebook away as bonus.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 45. Give a sample of the contents of the ebook.

It’s a great idea to give a small sample from the ebook you are
selling. You can list a recipes from the ebook or one of the tips the
ebook has. You could list the entire contents index of the ebook to
show the customer exactly what topics are covered in the ebook.
The more information you provide about the ebook the more chance
it will sell.

Step 46. Spelling and Grammar.

Always proof read your listings for spelling or grammar mistakes. If

you can’t spell buy a dictionary or use the spell check facility on
ebay. Remember your item description does not get spell checked
so make sure it is spelt correctly. Bad spelling is a sure fire way to
lost an ebook sale.

Step 47. Don’t limit your sales to ebay.

Don’t only sell ebooks on ebay think about what you can do after an
ebay sale. Like I said use download pages instead of a direct
download link. Give away branded ebooks as bonuses. Add affiliate
links in follow up emails, (visit www.clickbank.com for a wide range
of affiliate products to promote). Get your own ebook website and
direct customers from ebay to visit it. (You can get a fully
automated ebook website, pre-installed with 50 ebooks from here:
http://www.sallys-ebooks.co.uk/easyautowebsite)

Step 48. Keep copies of your listings.

Always keep a copy of all your listings on ebay in case you are
suspended. EBay can often remove ebook related items unfairly and
if you don’t keep back up copies of your listings you may find
yourself having to go through the whole process of listing all your
ebooks again.

http://www.inside-ebooks.net/blog
50 ways to a Successful Ebay Ebook Business

Step 49. Sign up for free ebook memberships.

Rather than constantly buying ebooks you can sign up for free
newsletters and memberships to receive all your ebook stock for no
cost at all.

Here are a few of my favourite free memberships and newsletters:

Step 50. Final Word.

Work hard at selling ebooks and you will develop a successful ebay
business. Selling ebooks is full of earning potential. Remember don’t
just stop at making money on ebay, think about sales after ebay,
about promoting affiliate products, about brandable ebooks, writing
your own ebooks, building up your own mailing list to send out
special offers, keep growing your ebay ebook business in someway
everyday and very soon you will have a highly profitable online
business.

Good Luck and happy eBaying!
