FOOD:
Food is something that we eat. All living things need food to live. It contains nutrients.
We eat breakfast in the morning, lunch in the afternoon and dinner at night.

Food helps us to grow healthy and strong. It also helps the body to fight diseases.

Kinds of Food:
We need to eat different kinds of food items to stay healthy.

 Some food items give us energy to work, play and study. Potatoes, cheese, butter,
grains like wheat, maize and rice give us energy.

 Some food items protect us from diseases. They keep us fit and active. Fruits and
vegetables help us to stay healthy.

 Food items like oil and ghee should be eaten in less quantity.

 Some food items help the body to grow. They are good for our bones and teeth.
Some of these food items are milk, curd, pulses, peas, meat and eggs.

LESSON NOTE-2

Diet:

 The kinds of food that a person or animal usually eats is called a diet. A diet that
includes all kinds of food items is called a balanced diet.

 Some people eat meat, chicken and fish along with fruits and vegetables. They are
called non-vegetarians.

 People who do not eat meat, chicken or fish are called vegetarians. They eat only
fruits, vegetables and milk products.

LESSON NOTE-3

GOOD EATING HABITS:


 To keep fit and healthy, we should follow these eating habits.

Drink a lot of water every day. Having eight to ten glasses of water daily is good for
health.

Wash hands before and after eating.

Eat slowly and chew food properly.


Never skip a meal. Eat all the three
main meals of the day on time. Do
not waste food.

Never eat stale or uncovered food. It has germs which can make us ill.
Always eat fresh and well-cooked food. Use clean plates,
spoons and forks to eat or serve food.
