Remarks: This worksheet and the calculation principle was designed according to the regulations of
SCHRACK Seconet Austria - The results are valid for the internal use only. If a result should disagree
with valid regulations or manufacturer's recommendations, then the ladder are valid in any case.

This worksheet is designed and tested only under MS WINDOWS 7, Office 2016 Pro German

During development of external power supplies for special detectors, most often one of the
following two questions appears:

1. What dimensions will I need for the power supply cable?

2. Which power supply and how many accumulators will I need to provide those detectors?

This work sheet may help to answer both questions:

Principle of calculating the max. distance of power cable:

Max. length lmax by max. valid voltage drop Udmax

buffered power
supply Isum line 1 Ugmin
24V , ? A Uamin
UdevSpecial-
Uout Special-
detector
line n detector n
accumulator block, 1
? x 2 x 12V/ ?Ah

The calculation of the max. possible power supply cable length depends on the max. valid
voltage drop the cable, and the min. supply voltage the special detector may have based on
their current consumption (special detector in alarm condition ,all others in standby). The
calculations evaluate the worst case conditions based on a state where all detectors are on the
end of the line. Due to the reason that each detector type may have a different min operating
voltage, only one type per line is valid!

Principle of calculating the power supply size:

Two conditions have to be verified:
1. The battery capacity must suffice the required standby current of all detectors for the complete
bridging time and in addition for half an hour alarm current of one detector per line.
2. The nominal current of the power supply must suffice the required standby current as well as
the required min. loading current (80% of nominal battery capacity during 24h)

2. Using the work sheet Calc (V 3.0.0)

• Fill in the required detector type, quantity and cable size for each line - the result will be the
max. possible cable length.

repeat this step until all the planned detectors are entered

• Should other devices connect to the power supply, then their total consumption can be entered
in line 26 and 27 (in ampere):

• For the next step select the required backup time (1), the power supply type (2), battery pack
size (3), the required number of battery pairs are calculated in F38 (4):

If the power supply size is correct, "PSU size OK" is displayed. If the message " PSU size
too small ..." appears, select the next power supply size. When the message "Permitted
number of batteries exceeded", appears, you have use bigger batteries or reduce load.
In the case of " invalid battery type.." please select a fitting battery size (3)

• Calculation options:
The loading current can be calculated with two methods. VdS or AUT

The classification of the environmental temperature is important for all special detectors
with heating and determines the heating power (currently Dettronics flame detector and
ADICOS gas detector)

15 °C heated indoor installations (no heating power)

5°C frost-protected indoor installation Innenräume (max. 25% heating power)
-5°C protected outdoor installations (max. 50% heating power)
-15°C Outdoor installations in Central Europe (max. 75% heating power)
- 40°C Full min. temperature range, e.g. Russia (100% heating power)

3. Using the Worksheet "Flame detector" (V3.0.0)

This worksheet is a configuration aid for calculating the sensitivity of DF 221-9 and DF
241-9 flame detectors (see SINFO 290)

Manual
1) Determine the monitoring area (a, b, h) and enter
2) Determine the Detector class and the flammable goods and enter (C13 - C15)
3) The detection distance of the monitoring area (F10) must be less than the maximum
calculated detection distance of the detector (C20)!
(in the field D20 appears OK/NOK, )
4) In the case of one detector per monitoring area (= without monitoring redundancy), the
flame detector must be mounted 45 ° longitudinally / 45 ° horizontally aligned!
In this case, the calculation must be based on Cube (standard)
On method "Diagonal" appears in line 22 the warning: "Attention: the monitoring area is
not 100% covered!
5) If only the monitoring area, but not the room height, is known, the cube side length (C21)
is equal to the max. permitted mounting height hmax!
