Hardware Installation

CAUTION: Before removing the cover from your computer, turn off and unplug the
computer and all attached peripherals. Discharge any static electricity from your body
by touching any metal surface before removing the modem from its antistatic bag.

1. Turn off and unplug your computer from the AC outlet.

2. Remove the computer’s cover according to its owner’s manual.
3. Select any available PCI bus slot.
4. Remove the bracket and save the screw.
5. Carefully insert the modem into the selected slot. Apply even pressure until
the modem is firmly seated.
6. Secure the bracket with the screw saved earlier. Store the bracket for future
use.
7. Replace the computer cover and plug in your computer. Reconnect all cables.
8. Connect the telephone cable into the modem’s “LINE“ jack. Attach the other
end into the telephone wall jack.
9. Connect the telephone set into the modem’s “PHONE” jack. (Optional)

Driver Installation
This modem supports the Plug and Play feature. It allows your
computer to set the optimal configuration for the modem
automatically.

Windows XP

1. Turn ON computer power after

completing the hardware installation.

2. Windows XP will automatically detect

the Plug and Play Modem “PCI
Modem” and <Found New Hardware
Wizard> will appear as shown below.
Select <Install from a list or specific
location>. Click Next.

3. Select <Search for the best driver in

these locations> and choose
<Include this location in the search>
and locate the driver path to the CD-
ROM. (For example, D:\win2k_xp).
Click Next.

4. Click Continue Anyway to continue
the installation.

5. Windows XP will start to copy driver

files into the computer.

6. Click Finish to complete the

installation.

Windows 2000

1. Turn ON computer power after

completing hardware installation.

2. Windows 2000 will automatically detect

the Plug and Play Modem “PCI
Device” and <Found New Hardware
Wizard> will appear as shown below.
Click Next.

3. Select <Search for a suitable driver

for my device>. Click Next.

4. Select <Specify a location>. Click

Next.

5. Insert the driver CD into the CD-ROM
drive and choose Browse to specify
the location: (For example:
D:\win2k_xp).Then click OK.

6. Wizard will find the correct driver for

the new device. Click Next.

7. Read the Digital Signature and then

click Yes.

8. Windows start copying driver files into

the computer.

9. Windows has finished installing the
driver. Click Finish to complete the
installation.

10. Installation completed. You may

check the modem under <Device
Manager>.

Windows ME

1. Turn ON computer power after

completing hardware installation.

2. Windows ME will automatically detect

the Plug and Play Modem “PCI Card”
and <Add New Hardware Found
Wizard> will appear as shown below.
Select <Specify the location of the
driver>. Click Next.

3. Under <Specify a location>, direct or

locate the driver path to the CD-ROM.
(For example, E:\winme). Click Next.

4. Windows ME will find the driver for

“PROLiNK 1456PFP WDM DEVICE”.
Click Next.

5. Click Finish.

6. Windows ME will then recognize

the Modem and start to copy driver
files into your PC. Follows the
instruction to complete the process.

7. Installation completed. You may

check the modem under <Device
Manager>.

Windows 98SE (Second Edition)

1. Turn ON computer power after

completing hardware installation.

2. Windows 98SE will automatically

detect the Plug and Play Modem “PCI
Card” and <Add New Hardware
Found Wizard> will appear as shown
below. Click Next.

3. Select <Search for the best driver for

your device>. Click Next.

4. Under <Specify a location>, direct or

locate the driver path to the CD-ROM.
(for example, E:\w9x).
Click Next.

5. Windows 98SE will find the driver for
“PROLiNK 1456PFP WDM DEVICE”.
Click Next.

6. Click Finish.

7. Windows 98SE will then recognize the

Modem and start to copy driver files
into your PC. Locate the path again if
necessary, and follows the instruction
to complete the process.

8. Installation completed. You may check

the modem under <Device Manager>.
