J ustice is supposed to be swift and

speedy. Yet, our justice system seems to be
set to move ever so slowly. So much for
the right to a fair and speedy trial.

blank after the diagnosis, so his father
took action and enrolled him at SPED

and Speech Therapy.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a
neurological disorder that harshly
destroys the development of a person’s
capacity to communicate, interact with
other people, and the presence of
stereotyped behaviors, activities, and
interests. Their symptoms vary
depending on the severity of cognitive
impairment. Because of the variation of
degree they are under a “spectrum.”
Furthermore, one of the
symptoms of autism is that children
cannot explain what he or she wants. The
child’s language skills are slow to
develop or speech is delayed. He or she
cannot follow directions and at times, the
child seems to be deaf. Violent and
intense tantrums are also red flags for
autism.
There are areas that are affected
by autism. Communication develops
slowly. Instead of words gestures are
used. When it comes to social
interaction, they prefer to be alone. They
show small interest in making friends.
They do not respond much on social cues

can either be overly sensitive to touch or
under responsive to pain. Hearing, sight,
touch, pain, smell and taste may be
affected greatly or otherwise. For

for more
jeepneys?

After a long day at
school and work, a lot of
us just want to go home
and relax. But this is not
what some Cabantian and
Indangan residents are
experiencing.
Starting at 4pm, Milan

jeepneys – is packed with
many students and
workers who are waiting
for a jeepney to ride
home.
With jeepneys as small
as a multicab, only 13
passengers can be
accommodated including
the one seated in the front
seat. Not to mention that
the cab has gone all the
way from down town and
has already picked up
passengers there, leaving
passengers from Milan
with a single or two
vacant spaces or none at
all.
As a student myself, I
find this very time
consuming since for a
student, every minute
counts. In waiting for 30
minutes to an hour, I can
be able to do a lot of
work. Worst thing is that
this is still experienced
even during late hours.
This led me to asking
the Regional
Administrative Officer of
Land Transportation
Franchising and
Regulatory Board XI
(LTFRB), Edgar Crisanto
Violan. He said that the
starting maximum number
in one route is 15 but it
can increase by time
depending on the need of
the community. As of
now, 43 units of
Cabantian jeep and 31
units of Indangan jeep are
travelling back and forth
to help their passengers
reach their destinations.
In franchising a vehicle,
the franchiser must be a
Filipino citizen and must
bring valid data such as
birth certificate,
, passport, voter’s affidavit
or any that will prove his
citizenship. He must also
have a franchising
capacity and it must be a
public need.
As of now, Mr. Violan
said that the franchising is
suspended not only in the
region but nationwide as
ordered by the central
office in order for the
department to review,
update and amend some of
the policies in the matter.
It has been months
since this memorandum
order was practiced. Same

However, Mr. Violan
said that franchising could
be opened if residents of
Cabantian or Indangan
would raise this problem
and make a petition to
their Barangay Captain. If
he sees its urgent need, he

advise the LTFRB to open
franchising in the said
routes.
Now, it is up to the
residents of Cabantian or
Indangan to make a move
and solve this problem.

The couple only found
out that they have to get
married in a Catholic
Church first hours
before their beach
wedding. Close friends
and family members of
the couple attended the
ceremony. The beach
wedding ceremony star-

church ceremony, as
the couples needed to
change to their
wedding attires.
During the wedding
ceremony’s homily,
the priest even
mentioned about the
couple’s steamy video.
This brought laughter
to the couple and even
to those who were
witnessing the rites.
When Maggie and
Victor were about to
their wedding vows,
rain poured soaking
everyone. Maggie
described it as a
“torrential downpour”.
“It was such a
beautiful wedding that
even the heavens cried
for us…that’s how I see
it.” She said in her
interview with the
Showbiz Central.

categories. “Double whanny talaga

unexpected for him to win as the

Pacquiao: Fighter the award should be given

of the Decade

MANNY “PACMAN”
PACQUIAO was voted by
the World Boxing Council
(WBC) as Fighter of the
Decade (2001-2010),
announced by WBC’s long-
time chief Jose Sulaiman in
Mexico City.
Pacquiao held numerous
titles in the boxing field
such as the WBC super-
featherweight and
lightweight titles, super-
welterweight and flyweight,
super-bantam (International
Boxing Federation), feather
(The Ring magazine),
super-lightweight
(International Boxing
Organization) and welter
(WBC).
Furthermore, the USA
Today and Ring Magazine
had also named Pacquiao
“Fighter of the Year” for
winning the fights against
Joshua Clottey and Antonio
Margarito.
Many boxing fans and
critics also objected as to
the award given to
Pacquiao and insisted that
to Sergio Martinez instead
as he had more convincing
wins over Paul Williams
and Kelly Pavlik.
Moreover, Pacquiao is
due to fight with Shane
Mosley on May 7, 2011 at
the MGM Grand Garden
arena in Las Vegas,
Nevada.
Shane Mosley is about
10 years older to Pacquiao
and critics predict that
putting him to fight against
someone who is much
younger than him will put
him into a great risk of
getting badly beaten.
The boxing champ is
expected to start training
again on March. His trainer,
Freddie Roach, said that he
is considering Baguio City
to be the site of Pacquiao’s
first phase of training for
the upcoming fight before
heading over to the Wild
Card Gym in Los Angeles
for the second phase of
training.

Fair Play Award trophy in the
ASEAN Football Federation
(AFF) Suzuki Cup 2010.
The Fair Play Award,
according to Mariano Araneta,
newly-elected and FIFA-
recognized Philippine Football
Federation (PFF) president, is
the first citation given by the

Henson: “Don’t underestimate
sports”
Who would have thought that
sports news – news usually found
on the back part of a newspaper –
be worth so much to life?
Mr. Joaquin Henson did.
Joaquin “Quinito” Henson, an
international sports journalist and
commentator, spoke in a lecture
forum on the “Value of Sports in
Life” held at J301 of the Jubilee
building at the Ateneo de Davao
University College yesterday
morning. An audience composed
mostly of students from AdDU,
Holy Cross and the University of
Mindanao listened to Henson as he
spoke not only of the importance of
the journalist’s role in covering
news, but also explained the value
of sports news to the people, that
sports news does not have to be just
about games alone.
“Don’t underestimate sports,”
Henson said in the forum! . He
compared to other stories in a
newspaper, and that sports is a!
“mirror to life”. As life is a story,
Henson explained that the character,
the plot, the conflict – essential
elements in a story – can be found in a
sports news story. And unlike writing
fiction, a sports story is based on real
people and factual events.!
Henson then mentioned that there
are many values that one can learn
from sports news.
“Where else can you go to get all
these values in one blow? Sports!”
Henson said. While giving a set of
values – such as pride, passion, and
teamwork – through an acronym of
“Sports” that he made, he also
mentioned and praised several
sportsmen, saying that “they have
brought honor and glory – and we can
learn from them.”
After Henson finished his lecture on
the value of sports, the audience were
invited to ask questions either about the
lecture itself or about the latest news
and gossips on particlar sports teams or
