MELC: Explain how the respiratory and circulatory systems work together to transport nutrients, gases, and other
molecules to and from the different parts of the body. S9LT-la-b-26
Objective: Identify the different parts and functions of the respiratory system
Procedures:
1. Label the different components that form part of the respiratory system
2. Complete the table below. Write the function of each part of the respiratory system and answer the guide
question
Parts Functions
Guide
Question:
MELC: Explain how the respiratory and circulatory systems work together to transport nutrients, gases, and other
molecules to and from the different parts of the body. S9LT-la-b-26
Inhalation Exhalation
Air
Rib Cage
Diaphragm
Lung Volume
Lung Pressure
2. Use a
flowchart to show how breathing (inhalation and exhalation) takes place. You may choose your own design
for the flow chart.

MELC: Explain how the respiratory and circulatory systems work together to transport nutrients, gases, and other
molecules to and from the different parts of the body. S9LT-la-b-26
Procedures: Read the selection below and answer the following questions.
The upper chambers of the heart are called the right and left atria. The singular of atria is
atrium.
The right atrium receives blood from all parts of the body. Blood in the right atrium is
high in carbon dioxide and low in oxygen.
The left atrium receives blood from the lungs. Blood in the left atrium is high in oxygen
and low in carbon dioxide. Both atria fill with blood at the same time.
The lower chambers of the heart are the ventricles. The ventricles pump blood out of
the heart.
The right ventricle pumps blood to the lungs. This blood is high in carbon dioxide and
low in oxygen.
The left ventricle pumps blood to all parts of the body. Blood in the left ventricle is
high in oxygen. It is low in carbon dioxide.
Both ventricles pump blood out of the heart at the same time. Every time your heart
beats, blood is being forced out of the ventricles.
The heart and veins have valves that keep the blood from flowing backward. A valve is a
thin flap of tissue.
A muscular wall divides the right side of the heart from the left side. This wall is called
the septum. This is necessary to separate oxygen rich blood from oxygen poor blood.
1. Which chamber receives blood from all the body veins? ____________________________
2. a) The blood passes from this chamber into the _______________________________.
b) While this is happening, the valve between the right atrium and right ventricle is________________________.
3. The blood in the right ventricle is high in ___________________________ and low in _______________.
4. The body __________________ use this blood.
5. Where must this blood go to get a fresh supply of oxygen? _______________________ .
6. Blood pumped out of the right ventricle goes ________________________________.
7. In the lungs, the blood gives up its _____________________ and picks up_______________.
8. Where must the blood go before it can be sent to the entire body?___________________.

MELC: Explain how the respiratory and circulatory systems work together to transport nutrients, gases, and other
molecules to and from the different parts of the body. S9LT-la-b-26
Objective: Explain the mechanism on how the respiratory and circulatory systems work together to transport nutrients,
gases, and other molecules to and from the different parts of the body.
Guide Questions:
1. How do the heart and the lungs work together?
2. How will you describe the sequence of oxygen, carbon dioxide and blood flow in your own words?
MELC: Infer how one’s lifestyle can affect the functioning of respiratory and circulatory systems. S9LT-lc-27
Objectives: Identify the different habits that may affect the respiratory and circulatory system
Create awareness campaign informing the public about the effects of one’s lifestyle in the respiratory and
circulatory system
Materials : coloring materials, pencil, 1 pc. 1/4 illustration board, marker, pen, notebook, bondpaper
Procedure:
You may choose 1 from the following:
1. A- POSTER MAKING
- Make a poster showing the effects of negative life style on the two body systems
2. B- COLLAGE MAKING
- Gather pictures showing the different of respiratory and circulatory system caused by
unhealthy lifestyle
3. C- SLOGAN MAKING
- Create a slogan focusing on the healthy habits needed for us to prevent the different
diseases of the respiratory and circulatory system
4. D. EXERCISE and DIET PLAN
- Make a one month meal plan and routine exercise needed to make our respiratory and
circulatory healthy
