Moss Point, MS – In response to emerging data that suggests racial and ethnic minority
populations are bearing a disproportionate burden of illness and death from CoViD-19,
the Moss Point CoViD-19 Community Outreach Project (MPCCOP) has partnered with
Coastal Family Health to provide free CoViD-19 testing to the community. The pop-up
mobile testing events will be held on Thursday, May 14 and Friday, May 15 from 9am to
2pm. Although there is no charge to the public, we ask that you bring a valid insurance
card if you have one.
Moss Point has been identified as a CoViD-19 “hotspot,” which means the community is at a
substantially greater risk for CoViD-19 infection and adverse outcomes. MPCCOP plans to
expand testing services in this highly impacted area. According to Chris Carter, Project
Manager, “We must protect the most vulnerable. We know who the target is. We know
who to protect.” MPCCOP seeks to prevent and stop the spread of CoViD-19 by eliminating
health disparities in African American communities through awareness, testing, and contact
tracing.
MPCCOP is sponsored by the Moss Point Visionary Circle, Inc. MPVC is a 501(c)(3) non-
profit organization dedicated to assisting those affected by tragedy. We join the network
of national, state/territorial/tribal, and local organizations to mitigate the impact of CoViD-
19. We work with local small businesses, grassroots organizations, and other area non-
profits within a collaborative partnership framework. We envision wellness and social well-
being for all people in the region, including those of color residing in underserved
communities and who are more likely to have serious, chronic and often preventable
diseases as well as significantly higher mortality rates.
