ASSIGNMENT 1

“HERBAL TOOTH POWDER”

Case study
ANSWER 1

The budget for the fieldwork provided by the company is insufficient in my view point as
the sample that the company desires to include during the research is large in size.
Moreover, the research needs to be carried out in an urban area which eventually adds
more to the cost incurred.towards the end of the case, where the medical stores and the
kirana shops are included, the idea of using these two as the basis to conduct the
research can cut down the cost to a great level.

ANSWER 2

With the given budget, a sample size of about 500 people could be targeted, in my
opinion. What can be done to get the desired outcome is that the quality of the sample
size can be improved since the quantity of the sample size has been sacrificed. This
can be done through:

- Including youth in the sample size as they are more respondent to feedbacks and
surveys as compared to people belonging to other generations.
- Using social media to develop thesis.
- Finding the target audience and including more number of people from that
section.
 500*(20/100)= 100……non-users
 400*(30/100)=120……….not willing to participate
 280*(60/100)=168……..non-users
 280*(10/100)= 28…….users
 40,000/28= Rs.1428.60

ANSWER 3

While defining the population and the sampling frame in the above case, as mentioned
in the above answers as well, it will done through first finding my target audience in a
bulk and then picking up random parts of the mass target audience in order to form a
sample which results in a quality research. Also, keeping the process of sampling will
eliminate the chances of bias and incorrect premises. Lastly, the company needs to
keep in mind the following end results while forming the sample frame:
 Find ways to increase the sale of tooth powder in urban areas.
 Segregation of the variety of the products offered according to the generation the
public belongs to.
 Understanding the reasons behind the audience not purchasing the powder.

ANSWER 4

Yes, I completely agree with the point that a larger portion of the urban areas and towns
should be included because of the following reasons:

- The launch has to be made in urban areas and not rural.

- The company already has data regarding a research conducted in rural areas.
- The resources are limited.

ANSWER 5

Yes, it is advisable to contact the general kirana stores and the medical shop owners as
firstly, they are the ones who are in direct contact of the customers which entitles them
with the benefit of interacting with the customers directly and identifying their needs
better. also, in case of the Kirana shops, some of the owners also indulge in informal
conversations making them aware about the customer and their preferences even
better. with these informal conversations and bonds, it becomes easier to find out why
the person does not or does use tooth powder. Secondly, since they themselves are
concerned about the customer they will contribute positively in the research along with
decreasing the cost and time of the research process.
