Gateway Online Class

H E L LO !

Session Sixteen 9th July

Hello again to the Gateway Gang!

In this document I have a written instructions to accompany the video I made for this
weeks class. I used household items for all projects so hopefully you will have some/all
of the materials at hand!

I hope you are all keeping well... I have missed you!

Lolly Pop Stick Bird feeder
Materials needed: Lolly pop sticks, string, liquid glue, bluetack.

Step 1 -  Eat loads of ice creams - with sticks! And collect the sticks.. you need about 35 lollipop sticks (at least).

Step 2 -  Lay 4 sticks in a square in front of you.

Step 3 -  Starting at the top left corner place some glue on the top of vertical stick and overlap the horizontal stick.

Step 4 - Repeat this step at each corner.

Step 5 - Repeat steps 2,3,4 until your square has three or four layers of lollipop sticks.

Step 6 -  Glue lollipop sticks vertically to 'fill' your square. This is you base, place to the side and allow to dry.

Step 7 -  Place a line of about 10 vertical lollipop sticks out in front of you.

Step 8 -  Take two new lollipop sticks and glue them horizontally to the top and bottom of your line of vertical sticks.
This is one Wall.
Step 9 -  Repeat steps 7 and 8.

Step 10 -  Take your base and flip it over so it is a bowl shape. This is where the bird seed go. We now need to make
the roof.
Step 11 -  Take the two walls and stand them together in a triangle. Place a small piece of blue tack in the apex of the
triangle so it is secure.

Step 12 -  This triangle is the roof to your bird house. To secure it you need to glue one lollipop stick to the top of the
roof to connect the two sides.

Step 13 -  When it is dry you can remove the blue tack and glue the roof to the base of your bird feeder.

Step 14 -  Slide one lolipop stick in either open side of your feeder for the birds to perch on.
Step 15 -  Finally fill your feeder and tie a loop around the roof to hang in a tree :)
Printed flowers
Materials needed : Bubbles, paint, corrugated cardboard, paper, leaves.

Step 1 -  Firstly pick some leaves and grass stems from your garden or a park.

Step 2 - Mix up some green paint, and use the leaves and grass to print flower stems and leaves onto a page.

Step 3 - Rip strips of corrugated cardboard and roll them into cylinders.

Step 4 -  Paint the edges of the cardboard in bright paint and use it to print petals onto your stems.

Step 5 - A second method you could use to print flowers is the bubble painting that we did in week 2. They really look like hydrangeas!
God's Eye
Materials needed : Chopsticks/ twigs, 2/3 different colours of wool or string you can colour, scissors.

A God's eye (in Spanish, Ojo de Dios) is a spiritual and votive object made by

weaving a design out of yarn upon a wooden cross. Often several colours are
used. They are commonly found in Mexican and Mexican American communities,
among both Indigenous and Catholic peoples.

Step 1 -  Firstly find two thin sticks or chopsticks.

Step 2 - Choose what colour you would like to be the centre of your eye and tie your string
around the center of one of your stick.

Step 3 - Place the second stick in an even cross over the first stick and wrap your string around it.

Step 4 -  Follow the weaving instructions in the image to the right. Wrapping around each "arm"
and leading to the next.

Step 5 - Change the colour of your wool once or twice by just tying it to the end of the colour you
are currently weaving .

Step 6 - When you are happy with the size of your eye wrap the end of the sticks too. And
decorate with some leaves and tassels!
