Beginning of Modern English (1603-
1485) Intermediate English began to
advance to modern English in the
late fifteenth century. At the end of
the sixteenth century, the English
were reading and writing an
Englishlike language used today.
The
English writers of the Elizabethan
era, from the middle of the sixteenth
century to the beginning of the
seventeenth century, produced
some of the most important poems
and plays in world literature. It
spanned and many developments
have contributed to the possibility of
achieving such impressive literary
production in the Elizabethan era.
The most important of these
developments occurred in 1476,
when William Caxton established
the first printing press in England.
Books before this date were copied
by hand. This work was hard and
slow. Printing made it possible to
produce more books at very low
prices, compared to their cost
before the printing press was
established. The spread of cheap
books among people led to learning
to read. And with the e ancient
Greek and Roman civilizations that
had been neglected for
centuriesincrease in education, the
demand for books increased.

the Elizabethan writers were
influenced by translations of Greek
literature, especially Roman literary
works. In addition, new literary
styles found their way into English
literature. For example, the English
writers directly or modified quotes
literary forms, such as the article
from the French language and the
Sonnet from the Italian language. In
1588, the English fleet defeated the
Spanish Armada. This victory led to
the emergence of a sense of
patriotism, which was reflected in
poetry and plays in particular. The
British discovered and colonized
remote areas of the globe, and as a
result, wealth flowed from the
colonies to the English coffers.
Meanwhile, as a result of this
expansion, a layer of merchants has
made London a major trading
center. These merchants and a
class of nobles were seeking
entertainment and fine arts, as they
were willing to pay exorbitant prices
for this entertainment and fine art.
Writers, artists and musicians
flocked to London, making it a
European cultural center.

John Milton
Three main 09 :1 81Women
types of poetry flourished in the
Elizabethan era, they are: 1. Lyric: A
poem that expresses the poet’s
personal emotions in a lyric style.
Thomas Campion (1567-1620)
wrote many beautiful songs in the
Books of Desires (1601-1617);
Campion was also a composer, and
he composed many of his lyrics. 2.
Sonata: It is a poem composed of
fourteen environments of poetry,
which follows a nutritional pattern
of rhythm and rhyme. The
Elizabethan writers wrote two types
of sonnet that differ in rhyme
arrangement, namely the Italian
sonnet and the English sonnet. Sir
Thomas White moved the sonnet
from Italy and brought it into
English literature for the first time in
the early sixteenth century. Earl of
Sri developed the Italian sonnet to
the English sonnet. The poems of
Wyatt and Surrey were published in
the Schmidt Collection Varieties
Total (1557). William Shakespeare
and Edmund Spencer wrote the
famous successive sonnets; It is a
group of sonnets that revolve
around one subject or one person.
Among the famous successive
sonnets, we mention the
Shakespeare sonnets that he
dedicated to an unknown "brunette
lady" 11
The Spencer trott sonnets that

poems; Shakespeare built his long
poem Venus and Adonis (1593). On
a Roman legend, Spencer was also
quoted extensively. He is a fairytale
literature and adventurous
medieval in his unfinished
masterpiece The Fairies (1590,
1596, 1609). Translations: The
English poets translated many
works from the literatures of other
nations. For example, the Earl of Sri
translated part of an epic poetry
written by Roman poet Virgil. The
translation of poetry sent into
English literature has been
introduced. This type consists of
non-rhyming verses written in the
