Entrelac Scarf

Materials: 300-400 yards of heavy worsted to slightly bulky yarn, preferable

self-striping or variegated.
Appropriately sized needles for yarn (US 9 – US 10 ½ )

k – knit
p – purl kf&b – knit into the
k2tog – knit 2 stitches together front of the stitch
p2tog – purl 2 stitches together but do not slide stitch off the left needle, then knit
sl – slip as if to purl into the back of the same stitch and slide it off
WS – wrong side (purl side, or back) m1 – insert tip of left needle into horizontal bar
RS – right side (knit side, or front) between the two stitches from front to back, knit
ssk – slip, slip knit (slip 1 stitch to the right needle as into back of this loop.
if to knit, slip another stitch to the right needle as if psso – pass slipped stitch over
to knit, insert tip of left needle into the front of
these two stitches and knit)

Cast on 16 sts.

First Base Triangle:

Row 1: (RS) k1, turn.
Row 2 & all WS rows: purl across stitches worked in last row,
turn.
Row 3: sl 1, k1, turn.
Row 5: sl 1, k2, turn.
Row 7: sl 1, k3, turn.
Row 9: sl 1, k4, turn.
Row 11: sl 1, k5, turn.
Row 13: sl 1, k6, turn.
Row 15: sl 1, k7, do not turn.

Repeat the previous 15 rows for a total of two Base Triangles (8 stitches in each Triangle). Turn at the end of the
2nd Triangle.

Create Tier 1 as follows: 1) one Left Side Triangle, 2) one Tier 1 Rectangle, 3) one Right Side Triangle.

1) Left Side Triangle:

Row 1: (WS) k1, turn.
Row 2: kf&b, turn.
Row 3: k1, p2tog, turn.
Row 4: k1, m1, k1, turn.
Row 5: k1, p1, p2tog, turn.
Row 6 & all RS rows: k to last st, m1, k1, turn.
Row 7: k1, p2, p2tog, turn.
Row 9: k1, p3, p2tog, turn.

2) Tier 1 Rectangle:
Row 1: (WS) With WS facing, pick up and purl 8 sts along side of Base Triangle; slip last picked
up st to Left Needle and p2tog, turn.
Row 2: k8, turn.
Row 3: sl 1, p6, p2tog, turn.
Rows 4 -15: Repeat Rows 2 & 3 six more times; at end of Row 15, do not turn.

3) Right Side Triangle:

Row 1: (WS) Pick up and purl 8 sts, turn.
Row 2 & all RS Rows: k across stitches worked in last row, turn.
Row 3: sl 1, p5, k2tog, turn.
Row 5: sl 1, p4, k2tog, turn.
Row 7: sl 1, p3, k2tog, turn.
Row 9: sl 1, p2, k2tog, turn.
Row 11: sl 1, p1, k2tog, turn.
Row 13: sl 1, k2tog, turn.
Row 15: k2tog – This last stitch will count as the first picked up stitch for the first Tier 2 Rectangle. Turn, and
transfer this stitch to the Right Needle.

Create Tier 2 as follows: 4) and 5) two Tier 2 Rectangles.

4) and 5) Tier 2 Rectangle:

Row 1: (RS) With RS facing, pick up and knit 8 sts along side of Right Side Triangle. Slip last
picked up st to Left Needle and ssk, turn.
Row 2: p8, turn.
Row 3: sl 1, k6, ssk, turn.
Rows 4 – 15: Repeat Rows 2 & 3 six more times; at end of Row 15, do not turn.

Work two Tier 2 Rectangles, ending with a RS row, and turn.

Repeat Tiers 1 and 2 (Steps 1-5) 17 times total, then repeat Tier 1 (Steps 1-3) again.

Final Tier Triangles:

Row 1: (RS) With RS facing, pick up and knit 8 sts along side of Right Side Triangle. Slip last
picked up st to Left Needle and ssk, turn.
Row 2 & all WS Rows: p, turn.
Row 3: k2tog, k5, ssk, turn.
Row 5: k2tog, k4, ssk, turn.
Row 7: k2tog, k3, ssk, turn.
Row 9: k2tog, k2, ssk, turn.
Row 11: k2tog, k1, ssk, turn.
Row 13: k2tog, ssk, turn.
Row 15: sl 1, ssk, psso, do not turn. This last stitch will count as the first picked up st for the
next Final Tier Triangle.

Repeat Rows 1-15 one more time for two
