Difference between Splitter Pro X version and Pro version
• While Splitter Pro X can read Google Forms survey data downloaded as Excel, the
main function for Pro X version is to accommodate survey data that contains “codes”.
• Codes here are numbers that represent texts. For manual data entry it is much
easier to type number that represents text rather than typing the actual text.
• Therefore the main feature of Splitter Pro X is to associate each code with text, option
answer in a question.
• No automatic coding as in Pro version.

• In numeric tab, Splitter will ‘code numeric values’ so tables can be created.
• Numeric values include integers, 0, minus, or fraction. The numeric values should be free of units ($, km,
kg, etc) or any sign (>,=,<) or range (5 - 10).
24
Numeric Tab (2)

• If the numeric data not coded yet when try to run table, there will be message box to check numeric coding.
• To create another grouping criteria, just hit clear button and set new criteria.
• After coding, you can run the numeric data as Across or Filter variable.
• If you set criteria non exclusively ( example x <2 and 1<x<3) then there will be chances that 1
response will be counted more than 1.
• If you save the workbook, the coding result will remain.

Coding Tab – Coding* Answers to Open End Questions (1)
Main Steps
• When opening survey data, Splitter Pro X tries to find whether there are uncoded texts in each
question. In Splitter texts have to be coded first in order to create tables.
• For coding open end questions, usually what we want to do is to identify each individual data first
in respondent full answer. We do this by reviewing manually then do necessary editing. As is used
in writing to separate phrase or ideas, Splitter uses comma sign as data separator.
Two types of coding method (1) Label coding where Splitter tries to separate whole cell content into its individual
content using comma sign as separator (2) Cell coding where Splitter captures the whole cell content as individual data.
Uncoded box, showing the text(s) Switch to cell coding. So that we can read the original
that have not been coded through writing as we now capture the whole cell content
default Label coding.
• Now Splitter is ready to create tables for the open end question.
