Epicor Mobile Warehouse

Sales FAQ
Epicor Mobile Warehouse FAQ
1. Positioning Epicor Mobile Warehouse
Q: Why is EMW more expensive compared to Epicor Handheld?
A: Epicor Mobile Warehouse is a next-generation handheld application, that provides
a great improvement in performance and user interface compared to the Epicor
Handheld. These are some of the most important features that make EMW stand out:
► Greater accuracy, less errors with line level, part level, bin level validation.
► More efficient, faster processing e.g. Pick\Pack\Ship a couple of items with
serial numbers in less than a minute, including invoice (if auto invoice used)
► Native Android, download from the play store, zero footprint install, access
native functions on the device
► New Stocktake\cycle count functionality. Allowing user to stocktake by scanning
printed tag (traditional way), selecting next tag from lookup list (no requirement
to scan printed tag), or by scanning bin and part and system finds tag, and add
blank tags on the fly only when needed

Q: Does EMW include the previous Epicor Handheld screens?

A: Yes, it includes all previous screens that were available with Epicor Handheld plus
new functionality.

2. Epicor Mobile Warehouse licensing

Q: How is EMW licensed?
A: It is licensed per device, meaning that several users can use the same handheld
device which will consume 1 license. For example, if the customer needs 5 scanning
devices for the warehouse, they would need 5 EMW licenses. If they have 10 users
simultaneously using a scanning device the customer would need to purchase 10
EMW licenses.

Q: Is EMW available for both on-premises and cloud customers?

A: Yes. Perpetual licenses are intended for on-premise customers, and subscription
licenses for SaaS customers

Q: How is EMW delivered to the customer?

A: Once EMW is purchased by the customer, they need to download the application
from the Google Play app store into their handheld device(s). They will receive a
license key via email from the Epicor Austin Software Licensing account. Each EMW
license also includes a Data Collection license that runs in the back of the application.
Our operations team sends this along with the license key.

Q: What are the recommended handheld devices for EMW?
A: EMW is compatible with handheld devices running Android v5 or higher. However,
we have a list of recommended devices from Honeywell and Zebra that have been
tested:

Honeywell
► CT40
► CT50
► CT60
► CN80
Zebra
► TC52\56\57
► TC75\77
► TC8000
► MC3300

Q: With what version of Epicor ERP is compatible with EMW?

A: ERP 10.2.100 and higher.

Q: Is there a demo mode available in the EMW application for customers?

A: Yes. Existing customers can run against their demo database that comes with the
default of Epicor ERP. The demo can be run against any Epicor test company that is
installed: i.e. Epicor06 or Epicor03. They just use a user that is configured for the test
database to log in. In the test system where they have demo DB setup Epicor06 they
can install the EMW app and configure it and test against the demo DB.

3. Existing Epicor Handheld Customers

Q: What is the current status of the Handheld included as part of the Data Collection
licenses?
A: It entered sustaining mode back when we released ERP 10.2.300 in May 2019. This
means that we are still fully supporting it, customers can log in calls and get minor
fixes, but we will not be developing it any further. After the first sustaining phase of
18 months, which ends Oct 16, 2020, we will review and decide if we extend the
sustaining period.

Q: Can an existing handheld customer buy additional licenses?

A: Yes. There is a special item on the price book to sell additional DC licenses with
handheld functionality to existing users.

2 Internal Use Only August 2019

Q: MES is part of the Data Collection license. How is it affected?
A: The MES portion of the DC licenses is still available. Functionality and pricing
remain the same, we just created a different item on the price book for new and
additional sales, so it’s separated from handheld.

Q: Is there an incentive for existing handheld users to upgrade to EMW?

A: Yes. We have a special promotion for existing handheld customers, who are current
on maintenance. On premises customers can get 50% off the EMW licenses, and cloud
customers 20% (for the first 3 years). This is only applicable to the same number of
devices currently managed. Discount is not applicable to maintenance.

Q: How are upgrades at a special price handled with SVP vs. Pre-SVP customers?
A: Pre-SVP Pricing Customers: These customers own Data Collection licenses and a
separate Handheld Module license. They need to own Handheld to be eligible for the
EMW upgrade discount. These can be upgraded at the special pricing noted above for
the number of devices currently managed (which may or may not be equal to the
concurrent user quantity.) Customers may choose to deactivate some or all of their
pre-SVP Data Collection licenses. As a trade-in benefit, customers will be given a credit
for their unexpired maintenance which can be applied to the maintenance invoice for
Epicor Mobile Warehouse (whether purchased during the promotional period or if full
price is paid).

SVP Pricing Customers: They own Data Collection licenses which include both
Handheld and MES licenses bundled. Customers can purchase Epicor Mobile
Warehouse at the promotional pricing for the number of devices currently managed,
which may or may not equal the number of concurrent users. Customer may choose
to deactivate SVP Data collection licenses that had been purchased for use with
handheld. However, note that if the customer deactivates these licenses and needs
more MES users in the future, these will be purchased at full price (e.g., with
maintenance at 20% per year, a customer would have to not need more MES licenses
for >5 years before it’s less expensive to simply continue paying maintenance).

Q: How are the Handheld licenses mapped when a customer migrates to ERP 10?
A: Their handheld licenses will be automatically mapped to Data Collection licenses
that include handheld (which is on sustaining mode) and MES. If they wish to upgrade
to EMW, they will have to buy the new licenses.

4. Positioning Advanced Material Management, Epicor Mobile
Warehouse and MES
Q: Why is Advanced Material Management recommended for EMW and MES?
A: EMW is an extension of the AMM module. It allows users to transact the material
requests on the shop floor, do receipting and putaway transactions and picking for
sales orders. Move inventory around the warehouse, issuing inventory to a job etc. All
while being mobile and not tied to a computer. It allows a warehouse to be paperless.

Q: Why is it recommended to buy EMW when purchasing Advanced Material

Management?
A: EMW can be an extension of AMM, allowing users to be mobile. It enables users to
scan barcodes and reduce picking errors. As described above, they can go paperless,
meaning they have a device that is mobile. With AMM the users get the ability to
create PCID’s, replenishment requests, etc. In order to complete those moves and
requests efficiently and error free, they need a mobile device that will allow the user
to scan barcodes and verify what the user is scanning. If the user is not scanning the
correct bin, part or qty, the system will stop them.
