Four Classes:
Epithelial
Connective
Muscular
Nervous
EPITHELIAL TISSUES
Epithelial Tissue
Simple: Compound:
Pavement or Squamous >Transitional
Columnar >Stratified:
Ciliated -Columnar
Pseudostratified -Squamous:
=Keratinized
=Non-keratinized
1. Simple Squamous Epithelium
2. Simple Cuboidal Epithelium 3. Transitional Epithelium
Glandular Epithelium
Cover glands both endocrine and exocrine
glands.
Their main function is secretion thru what is
known as goblet cell.
Three Types of Dense Connective Tissue:
Types of Glands:
1.
2.
3.
MUSCLES
1. Skeletal muscles - are attached to the
bones.
Cells are long, cylindrical, striated, and
multinucleated.
Locations: combined w/ connective tissues and
neural tissue in skeletal muscle.
Functions:
moves or stabilizes the position of the skeleton
guards entrances and exits to the digestive,
respiratory, and urinary tracts
generates heat
protects internal organs
Contractions:
1.
The Movements:
Flexors bends a joint.
Extensors straightens a joint.
Abduct: away from the center of the body. 2.
Adduct: towards the center of the body
2. Smooth muscle
Nervous Tissue Types:
3.
3. Cardiac muscle
NERVOUS TISSUE
Neurons: are the actively transmitting cells in
the nervous system
Unipolar
Bipolar
Multipolar
Functional classification
Afferent or sensory
Efferent or motor
Interneurons
-Supporting cells
-Glial cells
Astrocytes
Oligodendroglial cells
Microglial
Ependymal
