SUPRA-LYTE THE ULTIMATE OUTDOOR AREA LUMINAIRE SUPRA-LYTE from WIDE.-LITE: NEW ADVANCED DESIGN FOR TODAY'S: PERFORMANCE NEEDS With today’s high energy costs, its ‘more important than ever to specify energy efficient systems for area light- ing designs. The new Supra-Lyte lu- rminaire from Wide-Lite is the perfect choice for parking, roadway, and area lighting tasks, with no compromise in appearance or performance. The lighting experts at Wide-Lite uti lized advanced materials and technol- ‘gies to design the SupraLyte. The result is a longsife luminaire that Provides maximum performance, effi- ciency, durability, and ease of installa- tion and maintenance. FUNCTIONAL STYLING ‘The SuprarLyte housing features a ‘square shape with smooth, rounded Contours and a dark bronze finish to blend with the architectural environ- ment. To coordinate with other color schemes, optional black, silver and white finishes are available, ‘The contemporary housing is as func- tional as itis styish. The square shape optimizes the distribution of a square Type V pattern with no waste- ful light overlap. And, unlike most Type V luminaires, the SupraLyte has no structural arms or supports to de~ tract from its appearance or cast shadows. The ballast is located in an integral ballastimastitter assembly away from the lamp heat. This design assures cooler operation and longer life forthe ballast components, and easier installation of the lightweight Optical housing Perfect for new construction or retrofit, projects, the Supra-Lyte features a Universal fitter for mounting to round tapered poles and 6” and 6” square poles with tenons. HIGH EFFICIENCY Supra-Lyte offers both initial and lite- ‘cycle cost savings over typical post top luminaires. First, only one Type V luminaire, with its efficient square dis- tribution pattem, is required per pole. ‘Secondly, the Supra-Lyte uses an ex- tra large reflector and vertical lamp configuration to achieve maximum peak intensities for HID light sources. ‘The optics are so effective that a 250 watt HPS lamp can produce the same peak intensities as a 400 watt HPS amp in typical luminaires. Substantial energy savings can be achieved when Supra-Lyte is ordered with the optional Bi-Level switching system. During off-peak hours, Iumi- naires can be switched to provide low level illumination and reduce operat- ing costs up to 75%, UNIQUE DUAL LAMP. ‘SUPRA-LYTE For areas requiring higher lant eves, a dual lamp SuprarLyte is available. ‘The dual 400 watt HPS (800 watts total) SuprasLyve produces similar ilu- ‘mination with greater eneray effi Glenoy than a single 1000 watt luminaire. Dual lamp models are avail- able for both HPS and metal halide and offer the advantage of switching ctf one lamp for lawer level illumina- tion while retaining the uniform Type V pattern. NON-METALLIC DESIGN Supra-Lyte has an exclusive light- weight non-metallic optical housing. Its construction features heat and impact resistant thermoformed acrylic with an ‘opaque upperhalf and crystal clear, UV stabilized non-yellowing lens. GLARE CONTROL ‘Supra-Lyte provides maximum inten- sity between 68 and 70 degrees, and meets |,E.S. roadway cut-off criteria, {or glare control. For “no-trespass" illumination near adjacent property, land for perimeter and roadway appi- ‘ations, Supra-Lyte is also available in a roadway version with a house-side shield and asymmetric distribution. SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE OPTIMUM SQUARE LIGHT PATTERN Because parking areas and pole spacings are often rectangular, a square, rather than circular, ilumina- tion patter is ideal. The square pat- tem allows minimum waste from pattern overlap. Supra-Lyte is designed to provide the ‘Optimum square, Type V light pattern, For pole locations near the edges of the area to be illuminated, Supra-Lyte is available in a roadway version to provide an asymmetric, hall-square pattern. FEWER FIXTURES, FEWER POLES ‘The Supra-Lyte optics are engineered to maximize light at the peak beam angle. This allows more light to be dis tributed across the surface area rather than near the pole. Supra-Lyte pro- vides maximum intensity near a cut- off of 70°, and meets LES. roadway cutoff requirements for glare control ‘A small amount of light is provided ‘near 80” to reach to the next pole and illuminate people and vehicles from at least two sides. The result is smooth, Uniform illumination without hot spots, near the poles, or excessive glare or shadows, Because Supra-Lyte offers better Control of light intensity and distr- bution, it affords an excellent spacing- to-mounting-height ratio of to 6 ‘mounting heights, That means fewer ppoles or lower mounting heights are needed to effectively light an area, so visual clutter and overall expenses are reduced. COSTS SAVINGS Supra-Lyte offers exceptional equip- ‘ment and energy cost savings com- Paared to typical post top luminaires, ‘Only one luminaire is required per pole, and Supra-Lyte's high efficiency reduces the number of luminaires and oles required per application. In addi- tion, the unique ballast/mastfiter as- sembly saves on pole equipment costs by reducing pole height requirements by approximately 2 feet per pole. Supra-Lyte's superior performance provides substantial energy savings. For example, in parking areas requir ee eam Thetinae ‘Supra-Lyte pro- vides a square light pattern with rounded contours to minimize waste- ful overlap, Supra-Lyte pro- vides maximum light output at 68°-70" to llumi- nate areas be- tween poles ‘spaced up to 6 ‘mounting heights. ‘Adequate light at 180" is provided to reduce shadows by lighting all ob- jects from at least two sides. ing 0.5 footcandles minimum at any point, 250 watt HPS Supra-Lyte lumi- hires can be used with the same poole spacing as typical 400 watt iumi- naires. This results in an energy sav- ings of $86 per luminaire per year, based on 10 hour per day operation and 10¢ per KWH energy cost. For the same application, dual lamp 400 watt HPS (800 watts total) Supra- Lytes offer the same pole spacing as ‘most 1000 watt post-top luminaires. Energy savings amount to $70 per lu- mminaite per year. Ifthe dual lamp Su- pra-Lytes are switched down to one lamp for 6 hours per evening, energy savings would be $160 per luminaire per year, compared to the operation of 41000 watt equipment. BL-LEVEL CONTROL Wido-Lite's Bi-Level HID Switching is a two level lighting control system de- ‘signed for applications where low level illumination can be used to save energy when full lighting levels are not needed. Bi-Level is available as an ‘option for all Supra-Lyte single lamp luminaires. In applications such as Parking lots, Bi-Level switching can provide up to a 75% savings in ener Use over a standard lighting system. ‘Supra-Lyte luminaires with Bi-Level ‘Switching provide a state-of-the-art integrated lighting system offering con- trol flexibility and maximum energy savings. Typically, the cost of a Bi- Level system is paid back through energy savings within the 3-year Wide- Lite warranty period. Contact the fac- tory or your local Wide-Lite represen- {alive for additional information, including a free energy savings analysis. o~ Exclusive Non ‘Metallic Optical Housing Vertical Lamp Design Large, High- Efficiency Reflector DUAL LAMP LUMINAIRE Unitized Ballast Assembly a) Universal Heavy-Duty Mastitter ADVANCED DESIGN @LIGHTWEIGHT, NON-METALLIC OPTICAL HOUSING Supra-Lyte has an exclusive light- ‘weight, non-metallic optical housing {or longer life and easier installation, Its constructed from heat and impact resistant thermoformed acrylic. The ‘opaque upper half is finished in a UV resistant dark bronze acrylic enamel undercoat and clear, semi-gloss top oat. The lens is crystal clear, UV- slabilized, non-yellowing and impact, resistant acrylic. Supra-Lyte uses a vertical lens design to maximize light transmission and re- duce dirt depreciation factors. Hori- onial lenses reflect a substantial ‘amount of light back into the Iumi- naire, and tend to collect dirt and bugs easily. A vertical lens allows a maxi- mum amount of light to be transmitted at the beam angle, and is more re- sistant to dirt accumulation. @VERTICAL LAMP. DESIGN FOR BETTER LIGHT DISTRIBUTION ‘Supra-Lyte uses the inherent pho- tometric advantages of a vertical HID amp for better light distribution. Typi- cal HID lamps radiate far more light. from the sides of the arc tube rather than from the ends. When horizontal lamps are used in parking applications, too much light is directed straight down, causing excessive light near the pole. Vertical lamps put ttle light straight down and allow maximum light to be reflected in the beam peak. @EXTRA LARGE, HIGH- EFFICIENCY PRIMARY PATH REFLECTOR ‘The large, high efficiency reflector system, made possible by the ab- ‘sence of the ballast in the optical housing, provides better control of Jong HID arc tubes. Most of the light is reflected only once, achieving supe- ‘ior “primary path” efficiency. The Supra-Lyte reflector is 50 effective that a 250 watt HPS lamp is capable of producing the same peak inten- sities as a 400 watt lamp in other luminaires @UNITIZED BALLAST PACK OFFERS COOLER OPERATION, LONGER COMPONENT LIFE in most post top luminaires, the bal- last is located in the same housing as the optical assembly. This arrange- ‘ment substantially increases mechani- cal stresses on the support structure, and allows lamp heat to affect the bal last components. In the Supra-Lyte luminaire the ballast is located below the lamp in a unique enciosure that serves as both a ballast housing and a universal mastfitter. The ballast as- sembly operates at cooler tempera- tures, reducing heat problems and extending the life of the components. ‘The clean lines of the enclosure pro- vide a smooth transition from lumi- naire to pole, without distracting support arms. A full length access door allows for easy wiring and ‘maintenance of all ballast compo- ‘nents, without the need to open the luminaire. UNIVERSAL FITTER FOR NEW OR RETROFIT INSTALLATIONS ‘The heavy-duty 6 inch by 4 inch 0.0. cast aluminum masttiter is sized to hhandle high winds and vibration. A true vertical set is afforded by four re- cessed set scrows ‘The Supra-Lyte fitter is ideal for new or retrofit applications. I's designed to ‘mount to tenons on 5" or 6” square oles or round tapered poles. Supra- Lyte luminaires may also be mounted Jn tandem and wall mounted, with p- Propriate accessory brackets, FASTER INSTALLATION, EASIER MAINTENANCE ‘The lightweight Supra-Lyte optical housing and unitized ballast pack re- ‘duce labor costs with rapid, simple in- stallion. The relamp door, held in place with two spring-loaded fasteners ‘and a high temperature teflon hinge, allows for easy relamping. The ballast access door is easily remioved by loosening one captive fastener, and wiring is simpitfied with a lamp/ballast ‘quick-connector. QUALITY TESTED AND BACKED BY A 3-YEAR WARRANTY ‘To assure quality and reliabilty, the complete Supra-Lyte assembly is wind-tested to 130 mph. It's also tested for resistance to vibration, im- pact, and metal halide lamp explosion, and it's UL. listed, Supra-Lyte is engineered and built to ‘Wide-Lite's traditional high standards. ‘The end user is protected by a 3-year limited warranty—the longest writen, ‘warranty in the industry, APPLICATION GUIDE Typical Type V cut-off luminaires produce a “tear-drop” type of pho- fometric distribution. This type of pat- tern is designed to reduce glare and ‘excessive spil ight on adjacent prop- erty. The Supra-Lyte is designed to reduce glare and spill ight as well, but instead of a “tear-drop” pattern, it [produces a “bat-wing" type of distr- bution, This creates two important benefits: 4. Amore uniform lighting installation can be designed because the hot spot near the base of the pole is eliminated. 2, Poles can be spaced further apart because the light is “punched” to the normally low illumination points between the poles. ‘The end-user benefits trom a Supra- Lyte application with fewer fixture and ppole equipment requirements and a more uniform lighting installation, with- ‘out compromising critical minimum point illuminance criteria.
