Anchors
Power Hub, CAM ACTION®
The patented Joslyn CAM ACTION® power hub screw anchor
system offers a versatile and cost effective power driven
screw anchor for application through Class 2 soils and to
36,000 pound holding strength.
A complete power hub anchor assembly consists of a

helix-hub assembly, anchor rod and eyenut. The helix-hub
assemblies are offered with single and double CAM ACTION®
helix configurations. Available with 1-3/8” square hub for
6,000 ft.-lbs. torque capacity and 1-1/2” square hub for
6,000 and 8,000 ft.-lbs. torque capacity.
The anchor rods are available in 5/8, 3/4 and 1-inch

diameters for 16,000, 23,000 and 36,000 pound tensile
strengths, respectively. Anchor rod lengths are either 3-1/2
or 7 feet. Anchor rod extension assemblies (anchor rod with
coupling) can be used when greater installed depths are
required.
Eyenuts are available in Thimbleye®, Twineye® and Tripleye®

configurations for one, two or three guys, respectively.
These anchors can be installed to a depth of 14 feet with

either dangle torque motor type line trucks or rack type
digger trucks utilizing the Joslyn J-CLAW™ installing tool
system. Joslyn offers additional information for the selection
of the appropriate anchor components and installation
procedures.
TESTING
POWER HUB ANCHOR
Utilizing electronic torque measuring and recording
instruments, installing torque can be continuously recorded
with anchor depth. These torque values validate each anchor
installation and enable Joslyn to custom design and
recommend the proper anchor configuration for each
customer requirement. Torque values can also be obtained
by using a calibrated hydraulic pressure gauge on the line
truck. Applying these pressure gauge readings to Joslyn’s
line application data, our customers can measure and
evaluate their own installation performance.

Rock 1
The malleable iron expanding rock anchor fits into a hole 1-7/8-inch or 2-3/8-inch
in diameter, expands and wedges firmly against solid rock. When the anchor is
expanded, the greater the pull on the rod, the harder the anchor becomes wedged.
No lead, concrete or grouting equipment is necessary. Furnished complete with
3/4-inch and 1-inch rods, 15-inch to 8-foot in length. Anchors are coated and the
rods are hot dip galvanized.
Set in holes drilled a minimum 12-inches deep in Class 1—Hard Rock, these anchors
will develop the full strength of the anchor rod. Rod should be set in line with the guy.
Ultimate strength: with 3/4-inch rod, 23,000 pounds; with 1-inch rod, 36,000 pounds.

The multi-blade, one-piece top plate expands upon impact into undisturbed earth
to form a cone shaped square, which distributes the anchor’s holding power over
a wide area, building up compression against an inverted pyramid of earth. The
expanding anchor retains its shape under extremely heavy loads because the base
plate supports the blades in the middle and distributes the load uniformly over the
blades. Reinforcing ribs provide additional strength.

unbalanced loads in soft soils. Placed at the bottom of the hole, behind the pole, it

Joslyn Guy Attachments provide an economical and efficient

means of fastening guys to poles. Well rounded wire grooves
protect the strand from damage.
The formed steel style guy attachments feature a closed
strand loop.
The ears of the malleable guy attachments will accommodate
any type of guy loop or clamp bail. The lower mounting hole
is for a 1/2-inch lag screw. J25164
Wherever possible, installation should be made under the head

of a machine bolt. Guy attachments are not recommended to
be mounted on the threaded end of a bolt as tensile and
bending stresses on bolt threads can result in premature bolt
failure less than the bolt minimum tensile strength.

The J2575 forged steel guy attachment features a curved,
spiked pole mounting surface. It provides the closest possible

guy attachment because of the position of the hole for the

Cone Head Bolts are used to attach fittings to universal bands. Installed from the
inside of the band, the square shoulder fits into the rectangular band slots, and
the special head digs into the pole to counteract band slippage.
J6277 J6157 The J6157 Clevis is designed to surround the 4-inch wide section of a universal
pole band, developing great strength for deadending. The deadend clevis is
GUY CLIPS furnished complete with a 3/4-inch bolt, square nut, concave lock nut and self-
locking cotter key.
The J6275 clip is used to attach guy strand. The J6275 has a malleable oval thimble
which will not rotate in the clip.

Joslyn Ground Wire Bayonets are used for supporting
overhead ground wires. Clamps are not included and should
be ordered separately. Top hole and slot are 9/16-inch
diameter on 2-inch hole centers for mounting clamps with
1/2-inch diameter bolts.
The straight type consists of one angle with clamp holes
punched in both legs to permit mounting the bayonet to
either the face or the side of the pole. Straight bayonets also
have a 7/16-inch diameter hole at the bottom for a ground
lug if required.
Corner bayonets consist of two angle sections and two
1/2-inch bolts for fastening them together. One angle is
offset to fit 8-inch diameter poles; however, the legs can
either be spread or pushed together to fit other diameters. TOP OF STRAIGHT CORNER TOP OF

The mounting bolt holes in the bent legs are slotted to allow BAYONET

Joslyn spool bolts are forged from carbon steel with either a single or double
integral washer upset at the insulator end. They are used for side-of-pole
installation when supporting neutral conductors in single-phase construction and
secondary service wires. The double upset type provide 1-5/8-inch clearance
between insulator and pole.
These spool bolts have 5/8-inch rolled threads and all associated hardware is
furnished complete as illustrated. The J0101, J101 or J151 insulator must be
ordered separately.

Joslyn Thimbleye bolts are forged in two styles, straight and bent at a 45-degree
angle. They are used for attaching guys and deadends to poles and crossarms,
eliminating the need for thimbles, strain plates, guy hooks and extra strand.
Eye dimensions are the same as for Thimbleye anchor rod (see anchor section).
Bolt length is measured from below the eye to the last thread. All Thimbleye bolts
have cone points and are roll threaded.
5/8-inch diameter bolts have a minimum ultimate strength of 13,550 pounds;

Alley arms, crossarms mounted to one side of the pole, require rigid bracing to
insure proper alignment of power distribution and transmission lines. Sturdy Joslyn
angle steel alley arm braces mount at a 45-degree angle and come complete with a
solidly welded lineman step.
These braces are mounted to the side of the arm by a machine bolt and attached to
the pole with two 1/2-inch lag screws.

All Joslyn wood crossarm braces are engineered for maximum

Side Arm Style
Joslyn’s inexpensive, side arm style wood brace is designed
especially for rural lines. These braces are used in place of
J5526 BRACE flat steel braces for increased impulse insulation strength.
SIDE ARM MOUNTING
All have a 13/16 x 1-3/4-inch Apitong preservative treated
wood.

These Cable Extension Arms are used to support a telephone cable at a distance
from the pole.
The messenger cable is held by a standard J1096 suspension clamp which is bolted
up against the underside of the two angles by a 5/8-inch machine bolt. This
machine bolt is fitted between the legs of the two angles and can be adjusted for
proper extension from the pole.
Mounting is accomplished by a 5/8 or 3/4-inch machine bolt at the upper position
and two 1/2-inch lag screws at the lower. Mounting bolts and suspension clamp

The J0590 Service Mast Bracket is used with a service wedge clamp to attach the
neutral wire of drop cable to the service mast. The front strap is rounded to
prevent damaging the bail of the service wedge clamp.

end of the front strap permits installation of the bracket without removing the

pulleys and as secondary clevises, making them especially useful for stringing and
sagging conductors.
The conductor is strung and sagged with the bracket in the pulley position where it

These cast iron fittings are used with standard pipe near
sidewalks and buildings where there is insufficient space for
standard guying and where head clearance must be maintained.
J1502 J1501 The J1501 pole plate is mounted with one 5/8-inch bolt and
two 1/2-inch lag screws. The J1502 end fitting clamps the
strand.
The J0521 pole plate has four 9/16-inch holes for mounting
with lag screws. The J0522 end fitting requires a J931 guy
clamp which must be ordered separately. The 5/8 x 2-1/4-inch
track bolt replaces one of ‘outer’ bolts of the J931 guy clamp.

Braceless crossarm gains improve the stability of the crossarm and eliminate the
need for crossarm braces and pole gaining. The design improves the structure
appearance and permits the use of wood, steel channel or steel tubular arms. They
accommodate pole diameters from 6 inches to 12 inches. Pole mounting slots are
13/16 inch wide on the top slot and 11/16 inch on bottom slot.

Cable Guards are used to protect power and telephone cable at riser installations.
They offer maximum protection to cable against collisions and vandalism.
Cable Guards are available either in inexpensive strap-mounted style or in one-piece
type with integral mounting holes for ease of installation. Lag screws are used to
secure to the pole.
Guards without frustrum can be used as extensions to attain any desired height on
the pole. A carriage bolt assembly is furnished on style “C” to fasten extensions

Joslyn plastic guy guards provide a strong, highly visible, economical safeguard
from exposed guy wires and anchor rods. They are produced from high-density,
impact-resistant polyethylene or PVC with ultraviolet stabilizers added for color
retention.
Full Round Guard With Galvanized Clamp

The 2-inch diameter full round design permits complete coverage of the guy wire
and anchor rod for maximum protection and improved visibility. The guards are
produced from high impact resistant polyethylene which is ultraviolet stabilized for
long life and resistance to fading. A 3-inch long partial cutout is located at one
end to facilitate installation of the galvanized bolted clamp assembly. This clamp
assembly provides a secure metal to metal connection to guy wire sizes 3/16-inch
through 1/2-inch diameter. The other end of the guard is secured around the guy
wire by hand insertion of the one way, spiked plastic rivet.

Two-Thirds Round Guard

The 2-1/2-inch diameter, two-thirds round design provides excellent visibility and
permits installation over anchor rods up to 1-1/4-inch diameter. The guards are
produced from high impact resistant PVC with ultraviolet stabilizers added for
retention of color under U.V. conditions. Four sets of holes are located along the
guard to permit flexibility of mounting positions. Two different attachment
methods are available—bolted clamp assemblies or wire ties. The bolted clamp
guards are supplied with three galvanized clamp assemblies which enable tamper

Joslyn full round Helical Pigtail Guards provide an eco-
nomical, quick and easy installation without the need for
any installation tools. These guards utilize a 23-inch long,
helically formed polyethylene pigtail which is wrapped
around the guy strand to provide an efficient tool-free
installation to guy strand sizes 3/16-inch through 1/2-inch.
One end of the helical pigtail is secured to the guy guard
body with a marine grade aluminum rivet positioned 5 feet
above the bottom of the guard. The bottom of the guard
includes a one-way locking nylon strap for additional
installation security and resistance to unauthorized removal.

The type B placing hook is used as a stringing tool to
facilitate the installation of figure 8 cable. The hollow base
of the hook permits installation over the nut and washer of
the thru bolt. The horizontal slot of the hook allows the
hook to be removed for re-use after the cable is secured to
the cable suspension clamp and thru bolt. If additional
safety factors are required, the hook can remain installed
between the pole and the cable suspension clamp.

Two J1019 guy hooks are normally mounted on opposite sides of a pole under two
turns of guy strand to prevent the strand from slipping on the pole. The rounded

The Guy Strand Holder offers a neat, economical, field
proven means of handling guy strand safely. Reduces
accidents from “exploding” guy strand coils and speeds up
construction through orderly handling. Once the guy strand
has been placed in the holder it is firmly contained and,
consequently, cannot get out of control. Thus the hazard to
linemen and passing traffic is eliminated.
Economies result from the facility with which the strand can
be unreeled from the holder—it is paid out from the center
in the same manner as rope from the inside of a coil; and

Joslyn manhole ladders permit safe, easy access to underground equipment. All
Joslyn ladders are furnished with skid resistant rungs. Each rung is coarsely
knurled to assure a safe and sturdy foothold for climbing. Galvanized hooked
ladders are also available.
Skid-Resistant Rungs
The rung is knurled by a rolling process which circumferentially covers the
5/8-inch diameter rungs with flattened pyramidal points. The grooves between
these points provide a path for water and mud to escape from the surface of the
rungs thus providing a self-cleaning, skid-resistant surface under both wet and
dry conditions. The flattened points minimize possible injury if the rungs are
grasped with unprotected hands.

Mounts, Triple Transformer (Rack Type)

Hot Dip Galvanized
Joslyn has designed its J6865 and J6866 one-piece triple
transformer racks to make installation easier by making
them lighter. These one-piece transformer racks can be
assembled with transformers on the ground and then hoisted
as a unit into position for mounting on the pole.
The J6866 rack can be used to mount three transformers
ranging from 75 kVA through 333kVA (24” mounting hole
spacing). Each position is designed to accommodate ANSI
type “B” lug spacing. Six 3/4-inch x 2-1/2-inch machine
bolts are included for bolting the transformer to the rack. It
is recommended the rack be fastened to the pole with two
3/4-inch machine bolts and four 1/2-inch lag screws. Holes
are provided on the rack for a groundwire lug.
The J6865 rack has 12” lug centers for mounting three, 3kVA
through 50kVA transformers. Six 5/8-inch x 1-3/4-inch
machine bolts are included for bolting the transformer to the
rack. It is secured to the pole with two 3/4-inch machine bolts
and two 1/2-inch lag screws to prevent the installation from
wobbling in the wind. Holes are provided for a groundwire lug.

3/4” diameter pole mounting bolt. The mounts can be
installed on the transformer prior to installation of the

Joslyn Crossarm Pins are forged in one piece from open hearth steel. Large bases
distribute loads without crushing flat wood crossarms. A square wrenching shoulder
is provided above the base for rotating the insulator groove into position.
These pins have 1-inch ANSI standard nylon alloy or cast lead threads for low
voltage insulators. Long shank pins come complete with a square washer, square
nut and concave locknut. Short shank pins for steel crossarms are furnished with a
square nut and split coil lockwasher.

Joslyn Wide Base Clamp Pins are made of open hearth steel, forged in one piece.
The broad base distributes the load without cutting into the crossarm while the
formed saddle combined with the clamp assembly or strap insures that the pin will

Joslyn’s exclusive saddle, attached with four 1/2-inch lag screws, is held in
compression between the pole and stub, separating them slightly to allow

Two assemblies are required per installation. A 5/8-inch bolt of proper length,
ordered separately, is used through each band and saddle, taking up the slack and

The J2108 Pole Roof is designed to protect the most vulnerable part of the pole
above ground—the exposed end grain. In spite of modern pressure-treating
methods, constant weathering will leach out the preservatives in the exposed pole
top and eventually necessitate repair or replacement.
The J2108 is made of long-life roofing material. Since it is non-metallic, there is no
danger of radio interference as with a metallic cap. The two-piece pole roof is easily
installed with ten broad head galvanized nails included in the package.

Smooth, rounded pressed steel struts will not damage insulation when stringing secondaries.

Mounting slots on the extended styles are for 5/8-inch bolts and are spaced so that the racks
may be mounted on the opposite side of the pole from a pole mounted transformer using the
same mounting bolts. The groove in the back will retain a 5/8-inch square nut, permitting the
rack to be installed over existing bolts without disturbing present installations.

mounting slots at each end which interlock so that two
racks may be combined as one unit. The longer racks are
mounted through the T-slots.
Cable hooks are formed to protect cable from damage. They
fit snugly into the rack slots and have turned up ends to help

Joslyn Threadless Couplings provide an efficient means of connecting non-threaded

ground rods. The couplings feature a precision taper core which engages the ground
rods during the driving process. Additionally, the tapered core includes grooved
splines to increase the surface contact engagement area and to provide a further
allowance for variations of ground rod diameters. These high strength couplings
develop 100% conductivity of the galvanized or copper plated ground rod.

These straps are used with cable suspension clamps.
Reinforcing Straps support the messenger bolt at locations of heavier than normal
loading stress, such as long spans. The lower hole fits over the messenger bolt and J7905
the top end is fastened to the pole with a lag screw.
The J7906 Safety Strap will prevent the cable from falling should the messenger
give way. The upper hole fits over the messenger bolt and the lower end is lagged J7906
to the pole.

Both are made of 1-3/8 x 11/32-inch
steel with a forged thimbleye. The
J7695 has two and the J7696 has
three 9/16-inch diameter holes spaced
8-inches from center-to-center.
The J7692, formed from 1-7/32 x 15/64-inch steel, is used similarly to terminate
strand at a right angle to the building to the building wall. A wire rope thimble is
recommended to protect the strand.

stabilized nylon alloy compound with reinforced fibers which
provide approximately twice the fracture strength as
porcelain insulators. The engineered blend material provides
insulating properties equal to porcelain. Z-series wireholders
eliminate chipping and breaking problems associated with
porcelain. The unique design features a square flat top
which can be used with a hammer to start installation. The
flat top also features an “egg carton” design for indexing an
installing tool when using a cordless drill. Each package of
Z-wireholders includes a supply of installing tools for use
with a 1/2-inch drive cordless drill to obtain maximum
installation efficiency.

bracket to be installed without disassembling the bolts.
