Module 4 Excel Utility I: Hypothesis Tests for Single Populations

This workbook contains two utilities related to hypothesis tests, as well as an

example of their application taken from the course.

Click on the appropriate worksheet tab to access the desired utility or example.
Input numerical quantities in yellow fields only

1. Two-sided Hypothesis Test

• Caculates the two-sided range of likely sample means around the null hypothesis mean.
• Calculates the p-value of the sample mean using both tail probabilities.
• Performs the hypothesis test and determines whether or not the null hypothesis should be
rejected at the stated level of confidence.

2. One-sided Hypothesis Test

• Caculates the one-sided range of likely sample means around the null hypothesis mean.
• Calculates the p-value of the sample mean using one tail probability.
• Performs the hypothesis test and determines whether or not the null hypothesis should be
rejected at the stated level of confidence.

Inputs:
Testing a mean Testing a proportion
- null hypothesis mean or - null hypothesis proportion
- sample mean - sample proportion
- sample standard deviation - sample size
- sample size - level of confidence
- level of confidence
