3GPP LTE Solution - Physical Layer

Long Term Evolution (LTE) details the evolution of mobile technology that will deliver the benefits of
higher data rates and low latency to users. It provides new services by creating a new radio access
technology, which is optimized for IP-based traffic and offers operators a simple upgrade path from
3G networks.
LTE system architecture comprises of evolved packet core, eNB and User Equipment (UE). Figure 1 depicts
the interfaces of these modules. Our professionals at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have developed LTE
PHY of eNB and UE conforming to 3GPP standard, using Matlab model and fixed point embedded
implementation with multi-core DSP (Freescale MSC8144). LTE PHY features are verified using industrial
standard MicroTCA platform with TCS developed protocol stack ported on Freescale MPC8548
PowerQUICCIII processor. Hardware accelerator is used to implement FFT/ IFFT, Viterbi decoder algorithm
to reduce the latency.
