GROUP ACTIVITY: IDENTIFYING A FAIR TEST

OBJECTIVES:
1. Recognize a fair test from a number of testing situations.
2. Use laboratory apparatus to measure things precisely.

GROUP 1: DETERMINING THE MASS, VOLUME AND

DENSITY OF AN OBJECT

A. Determining the mass of the book

 Estimate the mass of the book: ___________________
 Measure the mass of the book using platform balance:
__________________
B. Determining the volume of the book
 Estimate the length, width and height of the book:
_________________
 Measure by means of a ruler the length, width and height of the book:
________________
 Estimate the volume of the book: _________________
 Compute for the volume of the book by multiplying length, width, and
height of the book: _______________________
C. Determining the density of the object:
 Estimate the density of a book by dividing the estimated mass with
the estimated volume: ________________________
 Compute for the density of the book by dividing the measured mass
with the computed volume: _________________
