Council of Europe levels Description
C2 The capacity to deal with material which is academic or cognitively demanding, and to
use language to good effect at a level of performance which may in certain respects be
Mastery more advanced than that of an average native speaker.
Example: CAN scan texts for relevant information, and grasp main topic of text, reading
almost as quickly as a native speaker.

C1 The ability to communicate with the emphasis on how well it is done, in terms of
appropriacy, sensitivity and the capacity to deal with unfamiliar topics.
Effective Operational Example: CAN deal with hostile questioning confidently. CAN get and hold onto his/her
Proficiency turn to speak.

B2 The capacity to achieve most goals and express oneself on a range of topics.
Example: CAN show visitors around and give a detailed description of a place.
Vantage

B1 The ability to express oneself in a limited way in familiar situations and to deal in a
general way with nonroutine information.
Threshold Example: CAN ask to open an account at a bank, provided that the procedure is
straightforward.

A2 An ability to deal with simple, straightforward information and begin to express oneself
in familiar contexts.
Waystage Example: CAN take part in a routine conversation on simple predictable topics.

A1 A basic ability to communicate and exchange information in a simple way.

 The exam aims at evaluating your ability to identify,
understand and use the grammar structures studied in
the course accurately. It measures your grammar
competence on the structures studied during the
entire course. It consists of 3 sections:
❑Section 1: Grammar Usage/ Use (explicit awareness of
use / meaning)
❑Section 2: Full Responses (explicit
awareness of form / meaning in
connected sentences)
 The scoring scale goes from 0 to 4 pts

 ESSAY : Have you enjoyed being an English student at Icpna? Do
you see yourself working and using English in 5 years' time?
Include your own opinion in the thesis statement.
 Structures to be underlined, at least one example of each tense :

continuous, past perfect simple and continuous, present perfect
simple and continuous, simple future, future continuous,
future perfect simple and continuous, 3 different modals of
necessity or obligation.

AG1 WRITING TASK 2:
 ESSAY : Research on a famous mystery you know about
(Bermuda triangle, Nazca lines, Easter island, Egyptian
pyramids, Matusita house, Anastasia Romanov, Mary
Celeste, Stonehenge, etc.)Describe the site, monument,
building, myth or phenomena. Explain two to three
different theories and/or speculations. Include your own
opinion in the thesis statement.

 Two (2) writing tasks will be assigned to be worked on autonomously
and handed in for feedback. To this end, please consider the following:
 First drafts will be submitted on Google sheets upon your teacher’s
request.
 The unit’s key grammatical structures must be underlined in both,
drafts and final copies.
 Writing pieces should be 200-250 words long divided in
two or three paragraphs.
 The deadline for the final versions to be presented for
formal assessment in the portfolio is THURSDAY 24th
 Other resources may also be included as part of the
portfolio such as: self-study handouts (Virtual Icpna),
autonomous work on worksheets, extra grammar exercises
assigned by your teacher, Google sheets participation
through comments (at least 3),MyEnglishLab work
evidence.
 However, they will be considered as additional
components and may be awarded one bonus point.
