INTRODUCTION LIST OF CONTENTS

the following portfolio contains samples of my academ-

ic and extra-curricular work. the projects that I selected 2-3 RESUME
represent skills and interests that have I developed during
studying architecture in london, spatial design in rotter- 6-11 MARCONIPLEIN APARTMENT
dam, as well as through my own experience outside of ac-
ademic environment. all of my concepts have been initiated 12-19 SOCIAL BAR
and developed through an extensive research as well as my
natural curiosity about people and environments. in fact, ex- 20-23 MASTER BATHROOM
ploration of the mutual relations between physical space
and social interactions is a recurring motif throughout 24-25 ELEVATION AND FLOOR PLAN
my portfolio. in other words, my design choices are not
solely based on subjective aesthetics but are developed by 26-29 GLASSHOUSE TATE MODERN
implementing an investigative and integrated approach to
my work process.
30-35 RIBBED SHELTER
as my design interest protrudes beyond one, singular field
of architecture, consequently i had decided to undertake a 36-37 FILM FESTIVAL ROTTERDAM
spatial design course instead of conventional architectur-
al course. spatial design is an innovative field that covers
interior design, urbanism, exhibition design, production 38-39 THE SHOPPING PROJECT
design as well as many other derivatives of a broad concept
of architecture. after three years of my design education,
40-41 DRAWINGS
my portfolio includes projects that relate to subjects of
relevance to society and social issues, as well as concepts
that focus more on the development of my practical skills
such as rendering, model making or technical drawing.

MARCONIPLEIN APARTMENT

CONTEXT ASSIGNMENT

lee Towers is a complex of three the aim of this academic project was to
towers situated in the Marconiplein propose a design for an apartment, based
area of Rotterdam. Two of the three on thorough research and analyses of
structures have been recently trans- works of given architect. My assigned ar-
formed from office to residential chitect was Toyo Ito who is a Pritzker Prize
buildings. The renovated complex- winning architect, known for creating ex-
es offer airy loft apartments with treme concept buildings, in which he seeks
abundance of natural lighting. to fuse the physical and virtual worlds. The
goal of this assignment was to come up
with a concept and a physical scale model
of the proposed design for the apartment.

PROCESS
my final floor plan emerged after a process of layering on top of
my main focus in the designingprocess was find-
eachother, a series of cut out ambigious shapes that results in flu-
ing a balance between implementing architect’s dity of space. Additionally, the cavities created in the floor resem-
style and vision without actually replicating ble a natural typography of a terrain and provide an open-plan lay-
parts of his works. Toyo Ito’s design philosophy out where the user can decide which cavity is used for which activity.
bases on the belief that architecture should
be first and foremost “designed for human be-
ings”. That is why I aimed at creating a concept
for a “stimulating architecture” design where
the inhabitant can interact with the space ac-
cording to his/her own interpretation of it.

FINAL MODEL
for my final deliverable, I produced
a Rhino model that I could later use
to laser cut wooden sheets that I
layered up. As my end model was al-
ready quite complex in its shape and
form I did not want to draw atten-
tion away from my main concept - the
only material that I used was plywood.

10 11
SOCIAL BAR

my design choices for this project have been based on a research of how shape can potentially influence hu-
man behavior. The design of the bar counter encourages random eye contact between strangers. The materials that
I have chosen for the space are simple neutral, so that the most prominent highlight of the social bar are its users.

12 13
LOCATION

This project is located in a Flour mill Lat-

enstein which is a large monumental com-
plex in Rijnhaven area in Rotterdam. Today
the mill is used by grain processor Codrico,
although the machinery room on top of
the building is not in use anymore and has
been a national monument in Rotterdam
South since 2014. Social Bar is located in
the northern part of the machinery room,
providing a view of Rotterdam’s center.

SHAPE FOLLOWS FUNCTION

The organic shape and curvature of the bar

create series of hollow and protruding
parts. The hollow parts of the bar create
a welcoming environment for people to
stay there for longer while the protrud-
ing parts can be used for more brief ac-
tivities like ordering a drink from the bar.

14 15
EYE CONTACT
is the crudest and at the same time
the most powerful tool for initiat-
ing a social interaction. It is usually
a natural starting point to conver-
sation with one another. It has been
proven that meeting someone’s gaze
almost immediately engages the so-
cial part of our brains.

MASTER BATHROOM
this project was done for a private client’s house
situated in staniszow , poland. i was asked to design
a master bathroom .what i proposed to client was a
functional layout that incorporated bath as well as
shower and a more secluded toilet area. i also sug-
gested including two windows that would reveal
beautiful view of surrounding mountains and bring
in heaps of natural lighting.

22 23
ELEVATION AND FLOOR PLAN
the client has also asked me to come up with a layout for
the whole, ground level house as well as propose the ma-
terials for outdoor elevation. the house had to accomo-
date 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, open-plan living room and
kitchen, utility room, laundry room, and a double garage.

TATE MODERN 2017, London, UK

this project is all about creating contrast beyween technology and nature
and at the same time enhancing balance between them to show that technol-
ogy can sometimes embrace nature. the function of this small scale struc-
ture is to raise locals/tourists awarness about environmental issues relat-
ing to the fact that tate modern building used to be a polluting power bank
station that had a significantly harmful impact on air quality in london.

this project was an assignment to design a shelter that could be used in a public space. my precedent for this
project was a “reading between the lines church” in belgium, looz, where architects designed a structure
which “Depending on the perspective of the viewer, the church is either perceived as a massive building, or
dissolves — partly or completely — into the landscape.”.in my design - using wodden panels vertically separated
from each other is going to give people a safe shelter from sun, but is still going to let them enjoy the view of
the park comfortably. the parametric benches created in the interior of the structure are designed in such a
way that users of the shelter can face each other at all times what encourages communication between them.

30 31
THE DESIGN CONCEPT FOCUSED ON AVOIDING A SOLID VOLUME
THAT WOULD CREATE A NEW PHYSICAL AND VISUAL BARRIER FOR
THE SURROUNDINGS OF A PARK. ADDITIONALLY, THE LIVELY CON-
TEXT OF SURROUNDING SOCIAL SPACE IS TRANSLATED INTO AN
UNDULATING INTERIOR SHAPE THAT PORTRAYS MOTION.

HOME?
this project was a collaboration between animation and spatial design
students. we have put our skills and knowledge together to create a
virtual reality experience that explores how dementia affects a visual
spatial congnition. the goal of this project was to bring awarness to
the issue of rapidly aging world where dementia is becoming one of
the leading medical conditions.

the virtual reality model has been done using unreal

engine. the installation consisted of two armchairs
and two separate vr sets - each one of them allowed
the user to experience a different perspective of the
same short story.
