target or both. These days Cyber Crime is a fast-growing area of crime. As, the technology is
advancing man is becoming dependent on internet for all his needs as it gives easy access to
do shopping, gaming, online studying, social networking, online jobs etc. everything at one
place. Apart from other countries, India is also not far where the rate of incidence of cyber
crime is increasing day by day.
Criminals are mostly exploiting the speed, convenience and , commit various criminal
activities and pose real threat to victims all over the world. These crimes can be phishing,
Fraud due to credit card, debit card, bank robbery, illegal downloading, child pornography,
distribution of viruses etc.
Hacking
For many gamers, chatting with other players is a fun way to immerse themselves into the
gaming community. However, chatting with strangers comes with risks. Just like in the real
world, not everyone has good intentions. Some cyber criminals may try to lure us to give
information about ourself so they can hack our personal or gaming accounts.
Phishing
Phishing, also known as “spoofing”, happens when a cyber criminal tricks us into giving
information about ourselves by pretending to be a publically recognized company. They
pretend to show that they can help us get more game coins . They likely just want us to give
up our password so they can hack our account and steal our identity and other information.
Gold-farming
Some cyber criminals use botnets ( networks made up of remote-controlled computers) to
generate in-game assets—such as “gold”, “coins”, or “gems”—which they may try to sell to
other players, typically at a discount. Often these criminals ask for a player’s credit card
information, or they directly make us fall to an unsafe third-party website to make a
payment outside of the game.
Cyberbullying
While playing online games competitiveness between players is a mere part of it. But there
is a difference between harmless competition and cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is bullying or
harassment that happens online. It can happen in an email, a text message, a game, or on a
social networking site. It might involve spreading rumors or images posted on someone's
profile or passed around for others to see, or creating a group or page to make a person feel
left out.
