MY INTERSHIP EXPERIENCE

An internship is a good time to test drive a career without making any serious commitments.
One of the most important things I have gained from an internship is newfound knowledge.
This can include knowing how to fulfil tasks that are relevant to my desired career path and
sharpening the skills that I already possess.

Many students think an internship mainly consists of making coffee and running duty for
superiors all day, but that is not true. And really, it shouldn’t be like that. An internship is an
opportunity to test out all the skills that you developed in college and see how they work in
the real practical world.

People at work place are more polite, if stuck up somewhere they are more than willing to
help you and show you the ropes so that not only the project gets done but you take away
those valuable skills for later on in your life.

FAIL QUIKLY

When someone asks me to do a drawing, even if I don’t know what is exactly needed to be
done, I DREW SOMETHING and showed it to them. That way I had something to critique and
build form. Whatever I did, I did not sit there worrying too much about getting it right to do it
at all. That wastes time is what I learned in my initial 5 to 10 days of working. Senior colleague
needs something they can reference to tell you what you did wrong so they can tell you to fix
it.
This is what I mean when I say, “Fail Quickly”.
Often, we think being spoon-fed is the way to learn, but working independently has proven to
be very important. Internship taught me to make my own decisions and do things on my own.
Being able to work independently with little guidance is very important in the working world.

ONE STEP AT A TIME

For most of my experience, it’s hard to even point out when it happened – when I absorbed
the architectural
For most people, it's hard to even pinpoint when it happened - when they absorbed the persona
of an architect. Was it the first time when I put 72 hours’ worth of work into building a
humanities model that was brutally criticized by a jury of people, or was it when I was assigned
to attend a meeting about a new project with a thin paper in hand with the principal architect.
The important thing to remember is, no matter what stage I am at, never stop learning and never
stop growing. And although it may be intimidating, just take it one step at a time.
YOU ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU THINK!

Even though I am at the bottom of my career ladder, I am needed and mu basic work is
appreciated. Here, I learned that the firm needs me even if I was working there as an intern.

Intern life can be tough, and you only get a short time to make a lasting impression. However, it
is a great opportunity to gain experience, make friendships and learn. So work hard and enjoy
your internship is the most important thing I learned here.

LEARN. ABSORB. THEN CREATE.

If I had to sum up my entire experience I would say, know how to communicate like an
architect. Brush up on office lingo, and always keep an ear open to learn new phrases. When
you don’t know what an acronym means - ask. Reach out to others - especially those you don’t
directly work with - and learn what they do. Be personable.
This is how I would sum up in 3 words: Learn. Absorb. Then create.
