B2. ADDITIONAL DATA OF MATERIALS
a) Bulk Density of
(i) Coarse Aggregate : 1.496gm/cc
(ii) Fine Aggregate : 1.442 gm/cc
b) Mechanical properties of coarse aggregate
(i) Impact value : 17 %
(ii) Abrasion value : 19 %
c) Compressive Strength of Cement in
(i) 7 days : 43.80 N/mm2
(ii) 28 days : - N/mm2
C. TARGET STRENGTH FOR MIX PROPORTIONING
f’ck = fck+1.65 x s
or
f’ck = fck+X
where
f’ck = Target average compressive strength at 28 days.
fck = Characteristic compressive strength at 28 days.
s = Standard deviation
X = Factor based on grade of Concrete
From Table 2 standard deviation, s = 5.0 N/mm2 And From Table 1 Value of X, X = 6.5 N/mm2
Therefore, target strength using both equation , that is
a) f’ck = fck+1.65 x s , = 35 +1.65 x 5.0 =43.25 N/mm2
b) f’ck = fck+X , =35+6.5= 41.50 N/mm2
The higher value is to be adopted . Therefore, target strength will be 43.25N/mm2 as 43.25N/mm2>41.50N/mm2
D. APPROXIMATE AIR CONTENT
From Table -3 of IS:10262 , the approximate amount of entrapped air to be expected in normal (non- air-
entrained) concrete is 1.5 percent for 10 mm nominal maximum size of aggregate.
E. SELECTION OF WATER CEMENT RATIO
From Table -5 of IS:456 Specifications,Maximum Water – Cement Ratio = 0.45
Based on experience, the free water cement ratio= 0.36
As 0.36< 0.45, Hence OK.
F. SELECTION OF WATER CONTENT
From Table 4,Clause 5.3 of IS 10262-2019 water content for 10mm maximum size aggregate = 208ltr
(for 50 mm slump)
Estimated Water content for 25mm slump = 208 -(3/100 x 208)ltr.=201.76ltr.
As admixture is used the water content can be reduced upto 20% and above
By reducing water content of 20% achieved from trials,
We have arrived water content = 161.408ltr, Adopted 161.4 ltr.
G. CALCULATION OF CEMENT CONTENT
Water – Cement Ratio = 0.36
Cement Content =161.4/0.36
= 448.33kg/m3,Adopted 448.0 kg/m3
As per Table-5 of IS:456 Specifications Minimum Cement content For Very severe condition is 380.0 kg/m 3
Hence 448.0 kg/m3 >380.0 kg/m3 ,Hence OK
G. PROPORTION OF VOLUME OF COARSE AGGREGATE AND FINE AGGREGATE CONTENT
From Table 5 volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 10mm size aggregate and fine aggregate (zone-III) for
water-cement ratio of 0.50 = 0.52
In the present case water-cement ratio is 0.36. Therefore volume of coarse aggregate is required to be increased to
decrease the fine aggregate content. As the water-cement content ratio is lower by 0.14 volume of coarse
aggregate is increased by 0.028 (at the rate of -/+ 0.01 for every (+/-) 0.05 change in water-cement ratio).
Therefore corrected proportion of volume of coarse aggregate for the water cement ratio of 0.36 = 0.548
Therefore, volume of Coarse Aggregate = 0.548
Volume of Fine Aggregate Content = 0.452
H. MIX CALCULATIONS.
a) Total Volume = 1 m3
b) Volume of Entrapped Air in Wet Concrete = 0.015m 3
c) Volume of cement= mass of cement= 0.141m3
Sp. Gravity x 1000
d) Volume of water = Mass of water = 0.1614m3
Sp. Gravity x 1000
e) volume of admixture = Mass of admixture =0.00202m3
@ 0.5% by weight of cement sp. Gravity x 1000
e) Volume of all-in-aggregate =[(a-b)-(c+d+e)] =0.68058m 3
f) Mass of Coarse Aggregate = f X Vol. Of coarseAgg.X Sp. gravity of coarse agg.X1000=1067kg/m3
g) Mass of Fine Aggregate = f X Vol. Of fine Agg.X Sp. gravity of fine agg.X1000=812kg/m3
