Journal 1: Week 1 (May 9th, 2017- May 11th, 2017)

I started my internship at Banglalink Digital Communications on May 9th, 2017. We started

our day by signing the internship contract and other necessary papers. If I am to talk about the
work environment of the office at the first meeting, I will have to say that each and every
staff of the floor I was appointed was very welcoming and friendly. The department that I,
along with three other interns, was assigned is named as the Corporate and Regulatory
Affairs (CORA). The department is responsible for ensuring the maximum compliance of the
laws and regulations concerning the company itself, counseling each department with some
of the regulatory traits while dealing with Corporate Governance and concentrate on
complying with all the rules and regulations sent by Bangladesh Bank and BTRC
(Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission)

Work Done:

On the second day of the week Md. Mesbah Ul Aziz (Government Relations Manager) and
Md. Abdul Wazed (Law Enforcement Agency Relations Senior Executive), briefed me and
some fellow interns about a new project they are working on, while giving us a tour of the
entire CORA department with all the major activities and processes. I was assigned to work
under the supervision of two of them on the particular project of permuting the names of the
tele-signal towers into Banglalink Digital Communications Ltd, previously named otherwise.
Under this project, I was firstly given with the task of going through some confidential legal
papers and making a database of my understanding of those papers given that I was explained
thoroughly about the legal terms. Basing on my understanding I had to prepare and put up an
informal presentation for the department.

For the next three days I was coupled with adjoining the data related to Narayanganj PBS-1
(Palli Bidyut Samiti-1) and PBS-2 (Palli Bidyut Samiti-2); here it is to be mentioned that the
Narayanganj Power Distribution Board is bifurcated into two parts- Macro and BSC, hence
the merging was required. Basing on the data derived from the prepared document, I was
assigned to look for loopholes in the bill payments and also in the documents.

Learning:

As I was provided with the task of preparing a report on the understanding of the legal
documents, I came to understand about the procedural structure between a private owned
telecommunication company and the government. Also I had the opportunity of finding out
the percolation reign of a telecom company like Banglalink. The legal procedures of
transferring names after an acquisition as well as the people related issues, more specifically
the employee retention and dismissal concerning regulatory procedures. Apart from the
report preparation I was given with the task of elaborating an informal report on the CORA
policies and the code of conduct, provided on the first day, of Banglalink Digital
Communications Ltd. This enabled me to enhance my understanding of how workplace
etiquettes are to be developed and maintained along with the formulation of regulations for a
company.
