serves to activate or energize
the behavior of a learner
Types of Motivation
1.Intrinsic
It is driven by interest or enjoyment
w/c a person feels in the task. It is
characterized by curiosity and desire to
meet challenges. The stimulus is
internal to the person; it can be
biological, emotional, spiritual or social.
2. Extrinsic
It refers to the
performance of a task for
attaining an outcome. It
maybe in a form of some
kind of reward w/c incudes
grades, compensation,
material, praise, punishments
and public recognition.
Common Ways of Motivating the
Learners
1. Giving Praise
Praising the student's
achievements is a powerful
motivator. If students feel
they are noticed and their
efforts are appreciated,
they'll feel more inclined to
continue trying hard.
2. Give rewards
Rewards are a
common motivator for
everyone. Teachers
can put forth a goal to
their students and let
them know that those
who reach it can get a
good reward.
3. Variety of exercises or
activities
Students can get bored with
the same old thing every day.
Besides, lecturing and note
taking, teachers can let their
creativity guide them in
coming up with other
activities to arouse interest.
Story Telling
Story Telling is the act of
telling one's story in an attempt
to better understand oneself or
one's situation. This technique
affect the learners in a
therapeutic sense as well,
helping them to view situations
similar to their own through a
different angles.
Story Telling

1. Know your audience.
2. Start telling a story about your
experience or other’s
experience.
3. Ask questions about the story
related.
Action Speaks Louder Than Words

• This technique motivates

the learners’ skill in
acting /interpreting
concept or ideas using
his own moves or
actions.
Steps
1. Assign groupings (4 -5 groups)
2. Give a category for the participants to
portray. Prepare the word meta
card.(use 5-6 words)
3. Assign a participant from the 1st group
to pick a card and demonstrate the
action.
4. A member of each group will write the
correct term on a paper and post it on
the board.
5. Then the 2nd group will do the 3rd step
until the last group member
demonstrates.
6. Give points to the group which gives the
highest points.
Dance Charade
This technique
stimulates the learner’s
skill in dance moves
which ensures the
accuracy of
participating in the
activity. It requires
moves that tends to
energize the body.
Steps
1. Let the participants stand away from
their chair.
2. Assign a word for each move forming

Gallery Walk
Gallery Walk requires the
learners to get out of their chairs and
go into a mode of viewing to gain
active engagement in the activity to
be presented. It is a classroom-based
active learning strategy where
students are encouraged to build on
their knowledge about a topic or
content to promote higher-order
thinking, interaction and cooperative
learning.
Gallery Walk
Steps:
1. Post pictures on any of the 4 walls of the
classroom.

friendly spirit of competition in your
classroom, perhaps through group games
related to the material or other opportunities
for students to show off their knowledge. They
can also create a sense of fun and enjoyment,
removing some of the stresses and pressures
that are often associated with formal
education.
Playing Games
How we should introduce a game?
• Explain the rules by using simple sentences
and numbering them.
• Write on the board key language and/or
important instructions.
• Ask each learner to repeat one rule.
• Ask for the translation of some rules to be
sure that all the students have understood.
• Try out the game with one or two learners.
Mind Map
Mind mapping is a visual form of note
taking that offers an overview of a topic and its
complex information, allowing students to
comprehend, create new ideas and build
connections. Through the use of colors,
images and words, mind mapping encourages
students to begin with a central idea and
expand outward to more in-depth sub-topics.
Steps:
1. Group the participants, provide a cartolina for
each group.
2. Give each group a word/s written on a meta
card.
3. The word should be pasted at the center or
any part of a cartolina.
4. Let them write everything connected to the
word or will best describe the word/s.
5. Assign a member to explain their work.
6. Recognize the group with the most number of
description and good explanation.
Head, Body, & Tail

quickly and grasp immediate ideas
about what is to be done. This
technique entails the ability to think
rapidly and accurately.

Video Watch
Video can be as good as an
instructor in communicating facts or
demonstrating procedures to assist in
mastery learning where a student can
view complex clinical or mechanical
procedures as many times as they
need to. Furthermore, the interactive
features of modern web-based media
players can be used to promote
‘active viewing’ approaches with
students.
Video Watch
Steps:
1.Play a Video clip.
2.Assign somebody to tell what
the video is all about.

Words to ponder
“Aim for success, not perfection.
Never give up your right to be
wrong, because then you will lose
the ability to learn new things and
move forward with your life”.
