NAME: CHENNURU PRAVEEN KUMAR

APPLICATION NUMBER: PhD/2020July/ME/0265

I completed my B.Tech mechanical engineering in V R Siddhartha Engineering College,
Vijayawada in 2015.I did my M.Tech in mechanical engineering with specialization in thermal
engineering branch from the same college in 2017. After completing post graduation, I took
teaching field in Nalanda institute of engineering and technology, Guntur as assistant professor. I
wish next to enter IIT Tiruapati Ph.D.program.
After completing my intermediate, I felt that engineering would be the area, which would give
me the opportunity to learn and explore how the fundamentals of science are applied to create
technology for practical and real purposes. I always wanted to take up the discipline that would
allow me to channel my strengths in the best possible way. Thus mechanical engineering was
direct consequence of my convictions. During my final year of B.tech created more interst on
thermal related research and more desire to face the challenges in solving the unsolved problems
i.e. concern over the practical problems initiates research. My post graduation study was a richly
rewarding experience, during which I realized the full potential of research in the field of thermal
engineering.
My B.Tech and M.Tech dissertation was in the field of thermal part. In my B.tech project done
simulation of double pipe heat exchanger using Ansys fluent. In this I developing turbulent
incompressible fluid flow in a double pipe Heat exchanger(parallel & counter flow) in Ansys
fluent for three different flow rates (m h>mc, mh<mc, mh=mc),two heat exchanger pipe materials
and three different fluids. Determine the outlet temperatures (K), compactness (kW/kg) and
exergy loss (W). In my M.Tech mini project done on flow analysis in a convergent-divergent
nozzle using CFD. In this project a simulation of steady flow of a gas through convergent
divergent nozzle which has a varying cross sectional area will be considered. The nature of flow
can be explained by considering how the flow and its characteristics(Mach number, static
pressure, density, velocity and static temperature) in the nozzle changes as the back pressure (P b)
is decreased by using Ansys fluent software to solve one dimensional nozzle flow. I took major
project on solar LiBr-H2O absorption refrigeration system. In this I studied the performance of a
10.5 kW solar driven lithium bromide absorption cooling system numerically. Thermodynamic
analysis of a LiBr-H2O absorption chiller is carried out and do the parametric study of this
system. In the parallel model a complete solar system, comprising a solar collector, storage tank,
using TRNSYS, for proper sizing of solar collectors with a storage tank to match the load needed
to the generator of the absorption system. The TRNSYS program is used to analyze the solar
system together with weather values of a typical meteorological year (TMY2) file for
Vishakhapatnam.
I have two conference publications, one journal publication within two years of my teaching
career and two years of post graduation. I am proficient in software like Ansys fluent, EES,
Transys.
For my Ph.D work I want to take topics which are consistent with my M.Tech specialization of
thermal engineering. Topics such as solar energy, computational fluid dynamics and heat
transfer, general areas of refrigeration and air Conditioning have more scope of research. These
fields are creating new challenges now days. Taking up these challenges has brought upon keen
interst in me. But I am also open to work on other topics from thermal engineering mentioned in
Brochure.
My short term career objective is getting Ph.D admission in IIT Tirupati and make myself a
better resource person and gain skills that may lead to a better acknowledged. My long term
career objective is to seek a teaching position for guiding the students and encourage them.
Continuing research work in any institution would fulfill my aim. Spreading knowledge and
sharing experience will keep me long going.
My main motivation for applying IIT Tirupati is that, though it is recently established institute
but it has better research facility. I found that by taking research at IIT Tirupati I would be able
to venture out into various subject domains. The institute has worldwide recognized faculty
which coordinately supervise and guide well in definite path.
After going through research profiles of faculty, I am influenced by the way IIT Tirupati research
program addresses research and technology related questions at minute level. I would like to
collaborate with Dr. Anil Kumar Emadabathuni sir because his research areas and my field of
interests are similar.
I believe that my motivation, keenness, skills and aptitude will provide the indispensable
elements to ensure a successful graduate career at IIT Tirupati. I look forward to an offer
admission from you.
