About FNTI (First Nations Technical Institute)

Since establishment in 1985, over 4000 students have graduated successfully from FNTI with
certificates, diplomas and degrees, granted in partnership with Ontario’s Colleges and
Universities. An Indigenous post-secondary institution, FNTI offers programs targeted at
Indigenous learners across a wide range of post-secondary disciplines including aviation,
health, business, and public administration. FNTI delivers programming locally through its main
campus in Tyendinaga on Ontario’s beautiful Bay of Quinte, as well as in numerous community
locations throughout Ontario.

First Nations Technical Institute (FNTI) is the largest and longest running Indigenous owned
and operated institute of advanced learning in Ontario. The Pathways Coordinator will be a
member of the enrolment management team and will focus on the coordination of assessing
transfer, advanced standing and articulation processes between Enrolment Management,
Student Services and the Academic divisions.

Qualifications:

• Relevant university degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with


Indigenous students in a post-secondary learning environment or education and
experience deemed to be equivalent;
• Considerable lived, practical and relevant working experience of Aboriginal/Indigenous
issues
• Must understand the importance of creating accessible, relevant and empowering
programming for Indigenous learners that is founded in Indigenous knowledge;
• From a strength-based approach and perspective, have a thorough understanding of
the challenges that Indigenous students face when enrolling in and attending post-
secondary programming;
• Must have a thorough understanding of Indigenous post-secondary issues and
opportunities;
• Excellent interpersonal communication, public speaking and presentation skills;
• Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills;
• Experience and proficiency with MS Office Suites;
• Demonstrated knowledge of working with Indigenous communities and organizations
• Ability to build effective relationships in a cross-cultural setting, specifically as it relates
to Indigenous cultures;
• Valid Ontario class ‘G’ driver’s licence; ability and willingness to travel
• For the duration of this contract, the successful candidate may be required to telework
