In the short story, Let’s Tell the Story of All America’s
Cultures by Ji-Yeon Mary Yuhfill, is about a young talking how she only learned about the white people in American history. In other words, she tells on in her story how minorities are left out of the history book and that we never hear about them. She talks about how it was not taught about the different cultures that shaped America to what it is today. Also, she talked about historical figures not mentioned in the text books that inspired and help mold our country. When she was insulted by other students telling her that she should go back to where she came from. It was believed by her that she was not an American even though she was American. It talks about how educators notice that history of America needs to include all American history and embrace the multicultural education. Telling all the history with the good and the bad of how America was shaped by the different cultures that fought for freedom. The author says, “E pluribus unum” which means “Out of many, one” (Ji-Yeon, p. 522). She is proud that she is Korean descent even to her tormentors that they are all American despite the different culture backgrounds. She believes that America is a unique beauty and that we should be proud that we live in America. I enjoy this story because I was always fascinated by the different cultures that live in our country. The story was a good read and it shows the impact it makes on other students with different cultural backgrounds. It shows the importance to know the all and the true history of America. I love how patriotic it is because this country was founded on the foundation of different beliefs and cultures. It has a strong ending with the education system making changes to teach multicultural education of the American history because it is America. The ending paragraph of the story is impacting and very patriotic.
