 DEFINITION OF READING
1. Reading is a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols for the intention
of deriving meaning or constructing meaning.
2. The mastery of basic cognitive processes to the point where they are
automatic so that attention is freed for the analysis of meaning.
3. Reading is a means of language acquisition, of communication, and of
sharing information and ideas.
4. The reading process requires continuous practices, development, and
refinement.

 LEARNING DISABILITY
1. Learning disability is a classification including several disorders in which a
person has difficulty learning in a typical manner.
2. This disorder can make it problematic for a person to learn as quickly or in the
same way as someone who isn't affected by a learning disability.
3. People with a learning disability have trouble performing specific types of
skills or completing tasks.

 READING DISORDER
1. The most common learning disability among special students is specific
learning disabilities; 70%-80% have deficits in reading.
2. The term “Developmental Dyslexia” is often used as a synonym for reading
disability. However there are different types of reading disabilities for example
is dyslexia.
3. A reading disability can affect any part of the reading process, including
difficulty with accurate or fluent word recognition, or both, word decoding,
reading rate, prosody and reading comprehension.
 THE FACTORS OF READING PROCESS
o Sensory Process
- is a process of receiving stimuli or information. 
1. Visual process
 Ability to make sense of information taken in through the eyes
 Difficulties with visual processing affect how visual information is
interpreted or processed by the brain.
2. Auditory process
 Ability to analyze or make sense of information taken in through
the ears.
 Difficulties with auditory processing do affect how this
information is interpreted or processed by the brain.
o Perceptual Process
- the process of evaluating information and giving it meaning.
