Conclusion
Introduction
Crocheting is a common practice in the current world. It is a process by which a person creates
fabrics through interconnecting loops of strands, threads or yarns of different materials. The
complex process is made easier by use of a crochet hook. The name crochet hook has been
derived from term crochet in the French language. This term is used to refer to a small hook in
the French language. The term is also related to a German crock which means a hook. The
crochet hook is made of different type of materials. These materials include plastics, woods or
metal which are commercially manufactured and products made in workshops of artisans.

Several people are confused when it comes to differentiating crocheting and knitting. However,
there is a significant difference between the two processes. The difference is firstly noted with
the instruments used in the processes. The second difference is noted in the process. While
crocheting, an individual is supposed to complete each stitch then carry on to the next stitch.
However, several stitches are left uncompleted at a similar time while an individual is knighting.
Various systems that prefer this kind of system include the broomstick lace and Tunisian
crotchet. It is because they keep several crotchet stitches being open at a similar time.

The process of crocheting began long ago during the 19th century in Europe. Crocheting brought
about a change in the textile industry from its conception. The process of crocheting begins when
a person places on the hook a slip knot loop. This process can be done by several methods
including simple folding of the yarn and use of the magic ring. This step is then followed by an
individual all the way through the first loop, another loop is pulled up. This process is repeated
several times until the desired length is achieved.

The chain that is formed can serve two purposes. The chain can be worked in rounds by joining
the beginnings of the row using slip stitch. The second form is common too; it entails turning the
suitable lengths and working them in rows. A person can create rounds when he or she works
several stitches into one loop. There is always a single loop that is left at the hook after the end
of a stitch. However, the famous Tunisian crotchet draws every single loop of a complete row. It
makes the loops form a very long hook then the single loops are made and then every single one
of them is dealing with.
Process of crocheting can be worked in different ways like knighting. It can be worked in two
common ways including being worked flat or in several rounds. Being worked flatly includes
making back and forth rows while the round process includes making spirals similar to making
pieces that are tubular. An individual is supposed to know an overview of the stitches involved in
crocheting. There are five major types of stitches. These stitches include: chain stitch which is
the most common one, slip stitch that from a form a ring after joining the chain stitch, half
double crochet stitch also known as the half treble stitch and double crochet stitch also known as
the treble stitch that used for unlimited use stitch by several people.

During the process, an individual is supposed to understand the terms and notions of the field.
Crotchet names vary between various countries in the world starting from the basic stitches.
Most the difference is experienced in two dialects including British and American English. A
written pattern and textual abbreviations placed of crocheting are traditionally worked out.
Diagrams system has been used to aid when an individual is faced with confusion during the
process of reading patterns. This is a standard international notion that came into light.

The other terminology between the two dialects is tension in the British English and gauge in
American English. Those people who crochet work the yarn with a tight or loose. There are
several differences that can be witnessed if the sizes are not measured. The differences can bring
about huge changes in the sizes of garments that are completed and have a similar number of
stitches. So as to correct this issue, crotchet instructions that include printed number of stitches
that is standard across a swatch of fabric that is standard.

Therefore, a person doing crocheting can start with making a test swatch and then correct any
discrepancies experienced. He or she can do the correction by changing to a larger or a smaller
hook depending on the situation. The Americans refer to the end process of this as gauging. On
the other sides, the Britons refer to as tension. It is simply the grip of a crafter on the yarn while
he or she produces the stitches.
Chapter 1 Crochet
Crochet is a simple art. You just need to learn a few points so that a wide range of projects can
start. This guide should give you an insight into the six most popular beginner crochet pieces,
including guides, videos, helpful tips, and many project ideas.

Within a short time, you can start a simple project by creating a crochet chain and a padding
stitch. Practice more basic stitches and start making a variety of scarves, caps, shawls, and
blankets. You have the best book if you've been searching crochet boards on Pinterest and have a
jone to launch the car.

Also, if you haven't had a hook or don't know a slip knot of single crochet, this guide will assist
you in learning the basics and tips. You will be prepared to crochet in rows soon enough, which
is all you need to make a scarf or even a basic blanket.

Then, what's crochet? Crochet is the art of making wool, fabric, or other films of material with a
crochet hook. You work yarn into loops with your hook to form a beautiful smooth chain and
then follow a pattern, line by line, of any stitch you like.

You can use your hook and yarn, to work in rows or rounds, from your scarves and hats to
cardigan, sticks, and purses, and you may have to work with your yarn. The word 'crochet'
applies to the 'small hook' as a reference to the one device you need to use in addition to your
yarn.

There's nothing like relaxing in a favorite chair for a spell, whether it's after dinner or a rainy
afternoon, to enjoy some much-needed downtime. But, if you're anything like me, it's hard for
you to relax. That is when I want my Crocheting and sit and relax, but at the same time, I'm still
imaginative.

The practice is beautiful, as with any new ability. I still learn new techniques and new ways to do
old stuff, even after over 30 years of working with a hook and a yarn.

The basics are essential, but even if you've been crocheting for a while, the examination of skills
that might be a little rusty never hurts. The crochet art was initially developed out of necessity
for hundreds of years and continued through the centuries due to the beautiful designs that could
be made.
I cannot even start counting the stitch variations that can be crocheted, but I can assure you, they
all start with the basics. This is why I give you projects to create a strong foundation on the most
frequently used stitches and stitch patterns in this book.

This book is written to improve the skills and practice in this longstanding craft, while at the
same time producing useful and trendy designs.

Some directions provide drawings showing you diagrams or the dimensions of your project.
Some objects can be more readily visualized, and these pictures illustrate how stitches or
proportions apply to them. Some projects have a segment named "Variation" after the necessary
instructions.

This can be as basic as changing materials, or it can give you ideas for designing an entirely new
project from the original design. Even if you don't want to use these pages, read them. You will
extend your crochet experience and how designs and models can be updated.

The responsive art of Crocheting is a lifetime talent, which you use to make lovely presents for
people and pieces for your home and dressing room. Start by learning a few essential points and
expand on them with advanced fundamental aspects. Start with learning how comfortable a hook
is in size and design. Start with basic yarns and patterning of beginners, and in no time will you
be a pro.

You decide where to begin. If you need a refresher on the ability you've been employing, go
ahead and reverse, exercise, and start the project.

Homemade is now gradually tweaking its way into our homes. Our houses look more and more
built, and it doesn't look that well! For interior design, Macramé is more noticeable, as crochet is
more used in clothes.

Crochet is a handicraft where the yarn is created by looping yarn on a crochet needle into a
patterned material often known as the 'textile boho.'
Chapter 2 How to Read Crochet Patterns and Terminology
One of the most intimidating parts about learning to crochet is reading the pattern. At first
glance, it may seem rather complicated, but as you become familiar with crochet knowledge,
you’ll soon see that it is not all that bad.

The first thing you need to do before you know how to read a crochet pattern is to check the
abbreviations used for all of the various stitches. You will use these symbols repeatedly when
reading a pattern and you’ll learn most of them easily. The table below includes a list of the most
commonly used stitches and their abbreviations. You are going to learn more about these later
on, but for now, you only need to read the abbreviations.

Common Crochet Terminology and Abbreviations

Asterisks, square brackets, and round brackets are used to simplify patterns.

Asterisks (*): An asterisk indicates that all the pattern information before it must be repeated
until the end of that row.

Square Brackets [ ]: These are used to explain patterns that are complicated by placing additional
information in the brackets.

Round Brackets (): Used for placing additional information in the brackets and also for
indicating which stitches should be repeated. For example – (2ch) 9 times. This can be explained
as 2 chain stitches to be repeated 9 times.

Something to keep in mind is that crochet terms differ in the UK and the US. This table will help
you should you ever need this information.

Crochet Terms Used in UK and US

US UK
The chain(ch) The chain(ch)
The single crochet(sc) The double crochet(dc)
The half double crochet(hdc) The half treble(htr)
The double crochet(dc) The treble(tr)
The treble crochet(trc) The double treble crochet(dtr)

Make sure you pay attention to the terms used before purchasing patterns.

Reading crochet patterns can be fairly time-consuming at first, but you’ll get used to it. Patterns
are written in rows for items that are straight and flat, such as a square cloth. For something like
a coaster, the pattern is written in rounds, this is the terminology we use.
Here is a row to practice reading - Row 1: Chain 12, dc in 2nd chain from the hook and across in
each. Chain 1, turn (9)

Firstly, you can see that this is part of a pattern from a straight, flat item because the pattern
refers to row 1. Next, chain 12 indicates that this is a chain made up of 12 chain stitches.

After this, there will be the half double crochet in chain number two from the hook (excluding
the one carried by the hook). This is followed by the half double crochet in each stitch till the end
of the row. Then you’ll make one chain stitch for the following row.

Ready to try another one? This time we’ll look at using asterisks. Here we’ll focus on what part
of the pattern needs to be repeated. Leave a piece of long thread, chain 21. Sc in the second chain
and in each across. (20 sts) - Approximately 5” wide
Row 1: *single crochet in first st, double crochet in the next* repeat till the end. Chain 1 and turn
(20 stitches)

Leave a long piece of yarn, then start your chain which will be 21 stitches long. Next make a
single crochet in the second Ch stitch from the hook is (exclude the stitch with is attached to the
hook) and also single crochet in each chain until the end of the row. It should be approximately
10 inches wide.

In row one, read the pattern carefully. You’ll notice that there are only two asterisks. Everything
in between the asterisks needs to get repeated till where the row ends. Firstly, the single crochet
is done in the first stitch, then the double crochet is what follows in the next. Then, a single
crochet in the first stitch comes again and is then followed by the double crochet. Follow through
till the row ends. Make 1 chain stitch so that you can begin a new row.

This is just one example; you will learn as you go along. In addition to reading written patterns,
you will also be able to use symbols to read patterns. Below is an elaborate list of common
crochet symbols that are commonly used.
Chapter 3 Crochet Tools and Materials
No craft can be completed without a few materials here and there. An artist cannot paint without
their paintbrush and canvas, the same way in which you cannot crochet without a few essential
pieces of equipment. This part is designed to cover all of the most basic of materials as well as
some of the less obvious items you will need to pick up a hook and begin creating your first
project!

Crochet hooks
Crochet hooks come in a wide variety of types for you to choose from. The most-common
crochet hook is made out of wood, plastic or aluminum; however, you can find older crochet
hooks in second-hand shops or online which are made out of ivory, steel or various crystals such
as agate.

You can also buy crochet hooks that have handles or grips. The handles are typically made of
either wood or plastic, and are usually made around the crochet hook and cannot be bought
separately. You can also choose to make your own handles using polymer clay, the purpose of
the handle is to provide extra comfort when in use as well as to provide support. The grips are
almost always made of rubber; you can buy these grips in craft stores or online which slide right
over your existing crochet hook.

When choosing a crochet hook you should go with what feels best to you, some people prefer
wood crochet hooks as they have more of a natural grip to them while others find that wood
hooks catch too much on the yarn they are working with. It is all about personal preference.

Crochet hooks can be found in a variety of sizes, all of which have a number, letter, or both,
indicating the size of the hook. The information is usually found on the wider part of a crochet
hook either engraved or printed onto the hook. Please refer to the chart below that includes both
number and letter sizing for finding the correct hook.
Yarn
Picking the right type of yarn for a project is a very vital step to ensure that your project turns out
looking beautiful. There are hundreds of different types of yarn available, and it can be a little
daunting to choose one as they all have different uses. This part will help you guide you through
the most-common types of yarn and their uses.

When you begin to crochet you may run into an expression called yarn weight, this is simply
referring to the thickness of the yarn. Following is a list of the most-common yarn weights and
their core uses:
- Super fine yarn, also known as 1-4 ply yarn, this type of yarn is mostly used for socks,
baby clothes and very fine lace.

- Fine yarn, also known as 5 ply yarn, commonly used for baby clothes and sportswear.

- Light yarn, also known as double knit (commonly known as DK) or 8 ply yarn, this is
the most-common yarn available and is widely used in several types of patterns.

- Medium yarn, also known as worsted, Aran or triple knit yarn, commonly used for
blankets, ponchos or thicker clothing such as scarves.

- Bulky yarn, also known as chunky or craft yarn, used for cowls, scarves or for more
sturdy craft projects such as rugs.
- Super bulky yarn, also known as roving yarn, can be used for making baskets, bags and
chunky clothing such as warm winter hats.

Other Items You May Need

Scissors

Scissors are one of your basic tools you will need, when starting out with crochet, any basic pair
of scissors you have laying around the house will work. However, it may be wise to invest in a
pair of craft scissors in the future for bigger projects or if you are using thicker yarn.

Needles
If there is one thing you should definitely not forget to get when starting up with crochet is a
needle, and not just any needle either! Unless you are working with very fine yarn, a regular
needle will not work. The correct type of needle that is required for working with regular yarn is
called a tapestry needle, also called a blunt needle.

This type of needle is a normal needle, but very chunky, the eye of the needle is much larger
allowing you to fit different varieties of yarn through it; this is a very useful tool as it helps you
to weave in loose ends that are left at the end of projects.

Pompom Makers
These funky little tools can add the final touches to a project, plus they make your job quite a bit
easier too! Pompom makers as standard have three colorful rings which you can remove or add
based on the size of the pompom you are looking to make. You simply wrap your yarn through
the center of the tool and around the edges till you cannot fit any more on, tie a knot and cut
around the outside edge of the pompom maker to be left with an adorable and fluffy bobble.

Stitch Counters
These handy little things, although typically for knitting, can indeed be used for crochet. They
become very useful when working on larger projects; you can simply enter in the number of
rows you have completed to keep track of what you have done; this is especially useful if you put
your project down to walk away for a while!

Storage/Work Box
The more equipment you gather, the more your need for somewhere to store them! Any box will
do in the beginning just to keep everything in one place. However, the more hooks you will
inevitably collect and the more tools you gather, it could be worth your time to invest in a proper
storage box with separate compartments or organize everything better. Not only will a storage
container keep your work area clean and tidy but also save you from losing too many things!
Those pesky tapestry needles disappear very easily, and that is one thing you do not want to find
in the middle of the night with bare feet!
Chapter 4 The Basic Crochet Stitches

Where to Put the Crochet Hook

There are a wide variety of places in a chain where you can place the crochet hook. This part will
review the easiest and most-common placement.

Below is a picture of what the top of a chain looks like along with what the top of a single
crochet looks like. There are two distinctive loops on each. When crocheting any stitch unless
specified by the pattern you will always use both of these loops.

You will insert your hook through both of these loops; this should look similar to the following
picture:

Further on into this guide we will cover how to utilize both of those loops in different ways. The
only time the placement of your hook can differ is when you start your work off. All projects
start with a chain, now as specified above you can indeed go through both loops when working
with the chain. However, it may be easier for beginners to just practice by going through one of
the loops only. This makes the chain easier to work with as it can get a little fiddly when you’ve
just started.

How to Chain
Chains are the most-common way to start off your project. Chains are your first initial building
block that you use to guide the rest of your work, and luckily it is also one of the easiest crochet
techniques.

To chain, begin with your knot on the hook holding your yarn gently, slide your hook up and
wrap it round the yarn as shown below:

Through the loop, now slide the yarn back down already on the crochet hook and pull. The
original knot should come off of your hook and be underneath your first stitch.
To get the required amount of chain stitches, continue to repeat these steps

How to Do a Single Crochet

Single crochet is one of the most-used stitches. It the first basic full stitch you will learn as it is
very simple to complete, and many patterns can be made entirely of this one type of crochet
stitch.

To make a single crochet, insert your crochet hook in the beginning chain:
Wrap the yarn on the hook, in the same way you would with a chain, pull the yarn back through
the stitch but do not go through the loop you already have on the hook, you should now have two
loops on hook:

Now wrap the yarn back around the hook without going through a stitch and through the two
loops, pull it.
That is a basic single crochet, repeat these steps as required to reach where the row ends.

How to Do a Turn on Your Work?

When you reach the end of a row of stitches and need to go the other way, you cannot simply
turn it around and keep going. If you were to do this, your work would start to curl in on itself
from the tension of not having any slack.

To turn your work, you simply incorporate a single chain where the rows end to do this you
chain one simple stitch as shown below once you reach the end of a row.

Once you have this chain, you can turn your work around to face the opposite way and continue
your work.

The amount of chains you put where rows stop can vary depending on the type of stitch that you
are doing. For example, with single crochet you will usually add one single chain before turning,
however with the taller stitches such as double and treble crochet you may add 2-4 chains when
you turn.

The amount of chains you need to add when turning is usually written in any good crochet
pattern, this can be located at the end of a rows description or if it is the same for every row it
may be specified in the pattern description.

How to Slip Stitch

Slip stitches are an extremely simple form of crochet. This stitch is typically not used to crochet
whole projects because it builds up very slowly. It is a very tight stitch that can make your work
quite stiff. This type of stitch is frequently found on things like the rim of beanies to make them
grip your head better or on projects like pots and bags to add stability and to ensure nothing falls
through any gaps.

Slip stitches are also used to get from one side of your project to the other without adding an
extra row onto you work. This type of stitch is also commonly used to attach two bits of crochet
together as it acts as a type of sewing.

To make a slip stitch, wrapping the yarn round the hook you insert you crochet hook through a
stitch and:

Pull it back through your stitch without pulling up a big loop, and then take the yarn through the
loop on your crochet hook and repeat as required.
How to Do a Double Crochet
The dc is the hardest stitch that you will learn in this guide, but don’t worry with practice it will
become easier.

The dc is essentially the same as a single crochet with an extra few easy steps. The main
difference in their appearance is that the dc is considerably taller than a single crochet, which
means that this stitch can make your work grow very fast as the stitches you are using are larger.
Another difference in their appearance is how they look altogether, single crochet stitches are
very close together which creates a block of fabric which you can barely see through, double
crochet, on the other hand, is a lot more open. This means that there will be gaps in your work,
because of this; double crochet is a popular choice for granny squares “which intentionally have
gaps in them” or lightweight scarves and blankets.

To begin, instead of putting your yarn into a stitch, wrap the yarn across the hook instead. This
should leave you with two strands or loops of wool on a hook.
Into the stitch, now insert your hook and pull the yarn through in the same way as you would
with a single crochet which should leave you with three twists on a hook.

Now yarn over and through it, pull only 2 of the loops which are on the hook, yarn over once
again and pull in the remaining loop.

And there you go! One completed double crochet stitch.

Chapter 5 Left-Handed and Right-Handed Crochet
Some of the left hand craftsmen who started to crochet years ago had to learn through their
normal approach the art "backward," as they learned from only a right hand crocheter. That is no
longer needed nowadays. The left-handed crocheters are now available with instructors, lessons,
designs and much more.
Herein, you will learn some basic stitches for left-hand crochet, tips for practicing more,
knowledge on finding sources of left-hand designs and advice on adapting current patterns for
your left-hand crochet style.

Left-handed crochet is actually a reflection of right-hand crochet. Mastering how to keep the
hook and handle the yarn is comparable to practicing as a professional craftsman.

Most crochet lessons are published for right hand crochet, and almost all crochet designs and
indicator charts. You obey the exact same directions in left-hand crochet except you operate in
the reverse direction.

It implies row one has been incorporated into the base chain while you are working rows starting
from the left side and heading toward the right. As a left-hander, that should feel normal to you.
This also means you will crochet in the clockwise direction while you are working in circles.

How to Crochet Chain Left-Handed

1. Start with a slip knot
2. Yarn over. Remember that you must scoop the yarn in clockwise direction from your
hook to grab the yarn each time you "yarn over" into your crochet work.

3. Pull hook via loop. Here you scoop the yarn in clockwise direction.

4. Repeat step number 2 and three; each repetition will be equal to one chain.

How to Single Crochet Left-Handed

1. Crochet any length of the base chain.

2. Insert the hook into second chain. The hook stays held into your left hand, the chain
stretches to the right and the key is put in the second chain on the right side of the
key.

The following is a diagram illustrating how you go through the hook chain, so you have 2
stitches above the hook and a stitch below.

3. Yarn over.
4. Pull from loop. At the end of this phase, you'll see two loops on your line.

5. Yarn over.
6. Draw those two hook loops. It's the very first sc.

7. Insert a hook then follow steps 3-6 in the next row.

8. Repeat step 7 along row.

How to Double Crochet Left-Handed

1. Crochet a base chain of length of your own choice.

2. Yarn over.
3. From hook, insert hook into the 4th chain. That is the fourth chain to that of the right
that works from left to right.

4. Yarn over.
5. Draw via loop. At the end of such a process, you will see 3 loops about your hook.

6.  Draw via the first two of the 3 loops onto the hook and yarn over.
7. Yarn over and pull the hook via the two loops. Your first double crochet has been
accomplished.

8. Yarn over and put hook into the next stitch, and after that reiterate steps 4-7 for next
stitch.

9. Repeat step 8 across row.

     10. Turn work. Chain 3 for turning chain.

11. Yarn over and insert hook into next stitch.

Crochet for Right-Handers
Crochet is quite straightforward. It starts with a single slip knot and it can become several
gorgeous and useful things, including a hat, scarf, sweater or rug. This can be accomplished with
yarn, string as well as thread, and also any fiber you like for your project.

1. Start with the yarn sticking through your right hand fingers about your right palm up,
the end held by your thumb. Tie the yarn in your fingers and back over your fingers
before it gets through.

2. Keep the threads intertwined between your right thumb and forefinger to create a
ring, creating a yarn loop with the end yarn of the ball and lift it up through circle.

3. Hold the knot, pass your crochet needle via the top of the loop, and secure it by
dragging the yarn's sharp end. You should have developed a slipknot.

4. Put it all down before you. Place your right hand below the end of the yarn that goes
to the ring, your forefinger about 2 inches (5 cm) from the handle. Wind the pinkie
finger around, then under the yarn of the ring. This will provide the tension
required to accomplish effective even stitches. Using your thumb and middle finger
to twist the knot under the hook to raise your forefinger slightly to relieve stress,
grab the hook from your left hand as if you were holding a pencil. You're prepared to
crochet.

5. Force the hook downwards and to right of the yarn which lies between both the hook
and the index finger, with the hook pointing right. Grab the yarn from your hand, and
lift it up via slipknot loop from the hook. This is termed a chain stitch (in the
guidance brochures, commonly abbreviated as ch). Reiterate this Ten times (total ch
11, including the hook loop).

6. Introduce the hook to the top of the next chain; draw the yarn loop via both chain as
well as the hook loop. Keep going this way until the end of that same chain. You
were intended to make ten slipstitches.

7. Better understand a single crochet. Make one chain Turn the job. You are staring at
the bottom of your work. Push the hook throughout the top loop from the last
slipstitch produced. Just draw a loop via the slipstitch. Drag a second loop through
both of the hook loops. Reiterate 9 more times now. You have managed to make a
row of ten SC stitches.

8. Do a double crochet piece Ch 2 Turn the job. Flip the hook to the right, to the bottom
as well as to the right of the yarn. Insert the hook to the top of the last single crochet
hook worked and draw the loop (three loops on the hook). Drag the next loop via two
of them (two loops on the hook). Drag another loop via the two of them (on the hook
loop). You have managed to make 1 double crochet piece. Reiterate through work
(10 DC stitches).

Continue to crochet. All crochet has always been primarily focused on such fundamental stitches
or variations.
Chapter 6 Hook and Yarn

Holding the Hook

There is no hard and fast rule for holding the hook and yarn. The rule of thumb is to choose the
method you find most comfortable. Some people use the “pencil grip” where the hook is held
like a pencil.

Others use the “knife grip” by holding the hook like a dinner knife that is ready to cut.

Be sure to maintain a slight tension in the yarn for easy and even stitches. Wrap the yarn around
a finger of the hand opposite the one holding the hook as shown below.
In the picture below, the left hand not only holds the crochet work but also controls the tension
of the yarn. The middle finger manipulates the yarn, while the index finger and thumb hold the
project.

Some people manipulate the yarn with the index finger and hold the crochet work with thumb
and middle finger, as shown below.
Feel free to try different techniques until you find one that is comfortable for you.

All About Yarn

Selecting Yarn

Crochet yarns are constructed of natural fibers like cotton, linen, wool, or silk, or synthetic fibers
such as polyester or acrylic. Yarns are available in different weights and fiber contents.

When purchasing yarn, you should consider your allergies and sensitivities, the thread’s
stickiness, breathability, and whether or not it is machine washable. When buying yarn for any
project, follow these simple guidelines:
Be on the lookout for quality yarn because it affects the appearance of the finished project. Good
quality yarn has the following characteristics. The yarn will have a firm twist so as not to
separate easily when crocheting, as well as an even thickness, to ensure equal stitches in the
garment. The yarn will have a consistent texture, with an even color throughout the skein, and
good resiliency. Resiliency means the yarn easily springs back in place when squeezed or
stretched.

Always buy enough yarn to complete a project. Buy thread with matching colors, as well as dye
lots. Buy all the yarn you will need at one time to ensure you get the same dye lot. This way,
every ball of thread will be precisely the same color. It’s always a good practice to buy extra
yarn if you are not sure of the amount needed to complete a garment.

It is imperative to use the type of yarn specified in the pattern instructions. There are pattern
instructions that indicate a particular type of yarn. Sometimes, you can use a yarn conversion
chart to substitute a different yarn. However, in such a case, the substitute thread should meet the
gauge given in the instructions.

Follow the right blocking procedures for every type of thread chosen to complete a project.
Blocking is a process used to shape crocheted work. The fiber content of the thread determines
the blocking method. Moreover, it is advisable to read the yarn label to understand the blocking
instructions.
Yarn Color
To get the best out of any yarn color, always choose and coordinate hues or colors with
intensities that look good when combined. When you choose a brighter intensity, you will need a
complementary color.

For instance, bright pink (bright intensity) combines well with dusty rose (dull intensity) and leaf
green (semi-dull intensity).
Choose five (or less) colors for one project. The recommended guide is one to three color
choices depending on the item created and its function. Note that it is better to have an odd
number of colors rather than an even number in a single project. Vary the number of colors in a
project but have one color hue as the main color. This variation makes a project more interesting.

Generally, black, gray, and white are considered neutral colors and as such, can be used without
upsetting the color formula of a color scheme. In most cases, black and white are utilized as
accent colors.

Generally, beginners should start with a thick yarn of solid bright or light color. Using brighter
colors helps to distinguish stitches as compared to using a dark or multicolored yarn, which may
make it difficult to pinpoint stitches. Furthermore, beginners should use medium, worsted weight
thread made of wool or acrylic fibers.

Yarn Label

Read the yarn label carefully to make sure you are buying the correct yarn for a project. Check
the dye lot numbers because a slight difference in the color may not be noticeable until you have
completed the project.

Keep the yarn label even after you have used the yarn because it shows you how to take care of
your item after it is complete.

Chapter 8 Getting Started
Steps to a Slipknot

You’ll begin all crochet work with a slip knot. It acts as the first stitch that you make as well as
an anchor point so that your yarn doesn’t unravel as you work. You can tighten or loosen this
knot rather easily, making it versatile. You’ll need to follow the steps as seen below.
The first step demonstrates making the loop. Place it fifteen centimeters (3 inches) from the end
of the yarn to make sure that you have enough room. You want to make sure you have a long
enough tail that you can weave it in later with a darning needle. If it is too short, you will not be
able to do that and your project can unravel. Better too long, than too short.

Second, you’ll pull at the end of the yarn that you’re working with. The working end is what
leads to the rest of your yarn. Pull it through your loop.

In Step Three, you’ll have a slip knot created, and in Step Four you’ll slip your hook through the
loop, pulling on both ends of the yarn. This will tighten it. Don’t tighten it to the point that it
doesn’t move freely down your hook. If it’s that tight, then it’s too tight. You want a loop that is
slightly larger than your hook for ease in sliding. It should not be bigger than the thumb area of
your hook.

Making a Yarn Over

Before you learn to crochet it is good to have a basic knowledge of crochet hooks and yarn.

Hooks

You will need a good quality set of crochet hooks. I like aluminum hooks since they are easy to
work with and last practically forever. Purchase a set of hooks that range from US size E-K. I’ve
had the same set of hooks for many years.

Hooks come in two different types; inline and tapered.

Hooks also come in several different sizes from very small steel hooks used with crochet thread
to large plastic hooks used to make rugs and with bulky yarn.

Making a Chain

Your chain stitch is key to learn as it forms the foundation of any project you start. After learning
your slip knot, the chain stitch looks like a chain of slip knots. It’s really that simple, and you’ll
see it above.

Above, you’ll see that the chain stitch moves upward from the slip knot. It’s tightened into a
beginning knot. You’ll be using yarn over the hook to create these stitches.

Yarn over Hook:

Think of crocheting as numerous loops stacked on top of each other. One loop will need to be
pulled through the next. Your loop will stay on the hook, and you need to keep it facing down.
This helps you to catch the yarn. The yarn will then need to be brought over the hook again. This
is demonstrated in step one. You’ll see it’s repeated in step three to create another loop. The term
Yarn Over is often abbreviated as YO in many patterns.

Chain Stitch Steps:

Step 1: Your hands should always be in the starting position with the slip knot still on your hook.
Starting position is your yarn hand holding the yarn at flowing tension and your hook hand
holding your hook.

Step 2: Use the YO, pulling through to create your first chain.

Step 3: To keep it from coming undone, pinch it gently and repeat the first two steps. Continue
until you have the right number of chains for your pattern or the length of the item you wish to
create.

The Foundation Chain

Next: Once you have made your slip knot most crochet patterns start with a foundation chain.
You will begin with a chain stitch that you will use to build your foundation chain with. The
crochet hook should be inserted into the slip knot from front to back.  The crochet hook should
be facing upward to start.  While the hook is still in the loop slide it in between the yarn and your
index finger of your left hand. Then, rotate your hook one-quarter turn counterclockwise.  If you
find that you need to move it more that is fine, but the idea is to try to make each motion as fluid
as possible.  After you have hooked onto your yarn, then draw it back through the slip knot.  As
you are drawing the yarn through you may find it easier to return it to its original upwards facing
position. You have now successfully completed your first chain stitch!

The Right Side

Step 1: The instructions in this lesson are for right-handed crochets if you are left-handed just to
do the opposite of these instructions. Make sure you have your yarn in your left hand as shown in
the picture on the right side.
Step 2:  Now take the yarn you are holding in your right hand and bring it up an over as shown in
the picture to the right.

Step 3:  Now pick up your hook in your right hand, and push it through the loop. You are trying
to grab the yarn that you pulled up and over, with the bent end of your hook.  As shown in the
picture below.

Step 4: Now you want to pull that bit of yarn towards you like as seen in the picture below.
Step 5: You should be pulling it up like in the photo below.

Step 6: You should now have a loose slip knot on your crochet hook.  It will need to be
tightened.  Leave it on the crochet hook and now tug lightly on both ends of your yarn to tighten
it up.  Make sure not to over-tighten it you want to be able to allow the crochet hook to move
easily inside the loop so that you can start to form your chain.  Using the hook on your crochet
hook use it to draw the yarn through the loop.  Make sure that you are hooking the part of the
yarn that is attached to the ball, not the tail.  Once you have tightened your slip knot it should
look like the photo below.  You have completed your first step getting your slip knot in place
congrats!
Chapter 9 The Most Important Step-By-Step Learning
Using hangers may not sound easy. The production of suitable clothing and other materials (such
as carpets) requires many technical details. If you browse multiple pages and do not have enough
link information, you are in the right place. This article shows detailed examples of how to learn
knitting. Therefore, this guide will introduce you to basic anchoring techniques and tips. If you
want to go through all stages, you may need to make a scarf or even an ordinary cushion. It takes
patience to buy these technologies. Weaving tips can be found below.

A. Get the Right Tool

If you want to create a table, you need wood, nails, and other useful elements to create a
beautiful table. If you want to make something like a crochet towel, you need to bring the right
tools. In other words, if you are a beginner, you need to collect the right tools. There are many
cables and hooks all over the world. However, when beginners can use them, experts often use
them. The main purpose of collecting the right tools is to make work easier and improve fast
learning.

If you are a beginner, please consider the following tools before learning.

1. As a beginner, please choose a medium weight yarn.

If you are a novice enthusiast, this is the best choice. The lightweight of the cable makes it easy
to create various objects. The yarn has the correct hook, and it will not disappoint you when you
learn how to fix and weave the yarn.

2. Guide the discussion with a clear view

One aspect of making people work harder is to recognize or see the results of their hard work. In
other words, I want to know to weave, stitch and select well-defined yarns. For example, in a
good example, choose wool or cotton yarn. You should avoid fancy and confusing groups
because they do not have a perfect definition for beginners.

3. Choose the filament color

When starting to crochet, avoid using dark multi-colored threads. In fact, it is difficult to
determine the attachment position of the hook during weaving. However, if you know this
technology, you can fully prepare to use any cable. After changing, you can choose any color.
With the help of a lightweight threads, you can determine your progress and know where to hang
the hook to get the ideal knitwear.

Choose the right hook for your thread and weight.

The best size is 4.25mm G, which is very good for beginners. The size of the hook is suitable for
beginners, because it can fix the thread well and the weight is light. Choose the appropriate hook
for each cable. This is due to the fact that at first, you may feel that your hands are heavy and
weaving is difficult. However, with your progress and accumulation of experience, you are
already in the ideal position to use hooks.

B. Displacement
After professionally assembling all the necessary hook tools, you need to start somewhere. On
the hook, everything starts with a loop on the hook. Making a simple knot is easy. If you want to
loop, it must be in the queue while the thread is running. Create a pretzel ring by knotting. Then,
you need to determine where the end of the thread intersects the thread in use. You should also
use your right hand to leave the coil in use. In other words, it runs through the entire cycle.

After knotting, you need to place crochet on the thread you want to use and through the created
loop from right to left. The hook should cross the right side of the pretzel and below the working
line, and then the left side of the pretzel. Then pull down the thread to tighten the knot on the
hook. Lift the joystick and gently pull the tail to the end of the cable to be used. After creating
this node, weaving can begin. It should be noted that if you want to create the correct material,
you need to make sure that the knot is correct. The knot forms the basis of the fabric. In most
cases, if the foundation is perfect,

C. Crochet Basic Chain

When you have a hook on your hook, you must have a crochet chain. It should be noted that the
war page is always the basis of the material, not the starting point of the material. This aspect is
critical in the sense that all other questions are raised on this subject. Therefore, you must be
happy to create this channel. You must use the perfect hook, which is light and suitable for
hanging. Remember, the length of the chain determines the size of the material you want to
produce. As a beginner, please create a short pint to create a small amount of content. If you
have the experience,

When creating the main chain, grasp the hook to suspend the chain. Then press the tail between
the viewfinder and thumb. Remember, the hook fixes the hook and the wire in different ways.
Therefore, as a beginner, you must choose the method that suits you best. After getting used to
the process, you must choose a method to increase the speed. You should also choose the style
that suits you best so that you can easily change the stapler and expand it if necessary. This
aspect is related to the fact that the hook also requires the use of fingers, which also improves the
excellent material. You should also move the ball to the left of the hook.

You must pass the cable through the log knot, move the hook with your right hand, and then pass
the cable being used through the log. The appearance allows you to connect the stop to the
bottom loop and follow the formed chain. When you do this, you should be surprised. In a sense,
this is all you need to do. In other words, you have to repeat it several times. You must thread the
thread through the hook, and the thread forms multiple chains. The repetition of these chains is
the material of choice. In other words, with these chains, you can create the carpets and scarves
you want to make.

D. Single Hook
After making the chain, you can learn how to make a single crochet. Beginners can learn many
crochet stitches and simple crochet stitches. After collecting all the detailed information and tips
to define a point, you have the basis for selecting and creating new points. The first stitch should
be knitted as the basis of the chain. In other words, each string should look like av, with a V-
shaped output on the right. The hook needs to be inserted into the second V shape. In the second
stage, the cable hangs from the V-shaped hole from front to back. Be careful not to insert the
hook into the wrong V-shaped hole. Remember, there should be two loops on the top and a
thread under the hook.

When you twist the thread to be used for the first time, you need to suspend it. The second step is
to pull the working cable through the V shape, push the hook to the right, and then pass the
working cable through the chain inserted through the hook. Therefore, there are other links
where you can work and post threads. Due to its appearance, the working cable can pass through
all hook circuits. You also need to hook and repeat the reference point. It is important to continue
the entire process as planned. The complete hook insert must be reconnected to create the lowest
point. It should summarize a low point. This includes inserting the hook into the front, and then

E. Create Separate Hook Lines

After completing the double stitches, you can create stitches according to your design needs. In
other words, you must learn how to convert chains that allow you to run multiple lines.
Remember, it is always intertwined from right to left. Therefore, if you want to create another
line, you need to rotate the hook because you can continue to work from right to left. Appearance
is important because it allows the material to be produced uniformly. When rotating the hook,
the chain enters. This element brings the line to the correct height, which is essential for the
production of various materials. You have to change the main point, sometimes make it appear
first.

The work must be reversed and rotated clockwise from left to right. In other words, you should
always work from right to left to be consistent. You should continue to work according to the
created chain. After expressing the first point, the placement of the second point must be
calculated. Please note that since the chain rotates at the first point, it must reach the second
point of the straight line used. With this look, you can create a perfect pattern that looks like the
material you want to create. Remember, clips and clips depending on the type of content you
want to create.

Understand the Key Aspects

When you hang up, you should understand that you should continue to the next operation
immediately after inserting the hook. This object is required because it maintains a uniform size
and shape. In other words, if the performance is reduced by one stitch, you may amplify the
performance and lose the technology that makes the hook comfortable. The hook should be
inserted firmly so that it is always under the V-shaped foot at this point.

Another noteworthy aspect is that when using a straight line, there is no need to reduce or
increase the size of the selected point. In other words, all subsequent points must be the same.
For example, if there are 20 points in the first line, you should keep this number to the end. You
must start the countdown and rotate the chain to reach the target number. It should be noted that
this is the secret to creating projects of consistent size. In other words, you can create two
different carpets but keep the same format and shape.

After making the first crochet material, you may need to understand other techniques that can
help crochet. For example, the technique for creating square materials is different from creating
rectangular lines. As mentioned earlier, patience is essential for any technology. Let the
technology behind the hook learn slowly. Exercise is also necessary to support physical labor.
Try it out; you can use other details (such as flowers and braids) to create relatively large
projects over time.

Another important aspect is that it is active, rising early and developing. In other words, before
you start thinking about creating multiple items (such as scarves), you need to start weaving
small items such as carpets. Although this is an ideal tool for creating more general articles, you
can also create other, more meaningful articles. However, it should be noted that the technical
details related to the production of these items and the use of hooks are relatively similar. The
size of the material depends on the hook and tie used. Therefore, please pay attention to the
hooks and hooks selected. The appearance paves the way for product improvement and
production.
Chapter 10 Easy Patterns for Beginners
Through the proper use of the hook and yarn, you should be able to master crochet in a short
time with repeated practice, and to begin your practice, we have identified some simple patterns
that you could use, to start with, your crochet.

Remember, to gain fast and become almost like a pro, and practice is critical. Begin with these
natural patterns, master them then challenge yourself to graduate to more intricate models.

The first step that many experts in crochet recommend before you take to your first attempt is to
read the title of the crochet. This is that you understand what the patterns will be for - blanket,
scarf, sweater, etc. So, before setting down to begin, first, start by reading the title.

So, here are the stitches that will then move you to the patterns that you can use to begin
crocheting.

Slip Knot
Knowing how to create the slip knot is the first step towards developing your crocheting ability.
The slip knot is the basis of most crochet patterns, and therefore, you will need to properly
master this so that you can build your ability to pick on other trends then.

So, you will begin with laying the thread on a flat surface, then looping once over itself. Here,
you will have the tail yarn and working yarn. Tail yarn will be the part that is on the right side,
while the working yarn is the end of the string on the left, which is pretty much how crochet
begins. Then, loop over with your thread, so that the rear part if the wool comes over the one you
are working with. Then, once you have done this, run the end of the wool over where they cross
and move the loop beneath the working wool. After this, insert the crochet hook through the right
side to the left, passing it over the wool you are working with then through the cross you have
made. Then tighten the wool over the hoop. Pull lightly on both ends to tighten it.
Congratulations, you've just made your first knot.

The Foundation Chain

This is the foundation chain, from which you then begin the crochet.

This is also called the chain stitch.

Here you hold the hook with the back end downwards while you hold the tail of the string on
your other hand, using the finger grip that you are comfortable with using. Key is that you
maintain it well such that it will be easy for you to make the loops without disrupting the
movement of the crochet shaft.

Then move it over, with the wool coming to the left side of the hook, then move it to the left side
of the first knot. Then, move working thread through the slip knot, and you will have one loop on
the hook and another underneath it. This is your first chain.'

Do this over and over depending on the number of chains that you want to create. So, say you
want to create twelve strings, then you will repeat this process over and over twelve times. Do
this repeatedly until you can comfortably move the crochet through the working yarn, slip knot,
and loops with ease and comfort.

Single Crochet (SC)

This comes to as the third step in making your crochet. Once you have your chain, you will have
them looped into each other with v shapes, with the first end of it on the right side. Put your hook
through the right side of the second v in the chain.

When you have done this, move over the working yarn, pulling it to the top side of the crochet
hook. They move the working yarn through the V, bringing the moving wool through the
procession you have woven, which will then create two running folds on the hook shaft. Then
move it over once more, moving the working yarn back through the underside of the hook,
passing it through the two loops you have when you do this. You will have one knot on the
crochet hook. This is the first crochet that you have made.

To do this, you will need to understand that you will need always to be using the working yarn to
make all the loops. That is why it is called the working yarn, after all. Be keen to keep it long
then, as you do not want to run out of thread midway through your loop, bringing to a sad end
the beautiful artistry that was taking shape.

Once you have completed your first single crochet, then repeat the process through each of the
rows of the foundation chain and keep in mind that you will continue using the second V-shaped
loops, as this will ensure that you do not have significant unsightly gaps in your knitting.
You will repeat this process for as long as you need, depending on the size of what you are
knitting. Then, you move to a third party.

The Turning Chain

To begin with your turning chain, first you will need to flip over the foundation chain, but still
maintaining the basic crochet rule - you work from right to left. When you flip it over, this will
mean that you will have reversed it, with what was on the left now on the right and vice versa.

Then, begin to create a chain through the single crochet so that you create your first stitch.

Double Crochet (dc)

Here, you will yarn over then pull the hook into the fourth chain. Then pull through the string so
that you now have three loops running through your hook. Then yarn over again and bring the
hook through two of the circles, leaving the one at the end. So, it again, and you have created one
double crochet. You will then create three chains at the end to bring up a turning chain that will
be the basis of the first double crochet in the new chain that you will form.

So, what patterns can you make from this?

Granny Square
This is a prevalent crochet pattern, and you will, therefore, find great value in knowing how to go
through it.

You will begin by creating the slip knot and then creating three chains. Then you start using the
double crochet so that you end up with double stitches. Then once you do this, loop the two
double stitches through the third chain.

Then after this, create another three of such dc clusters so that, but now you will move the dc
into the foundation of the first round.

When you finish with this, repeat the first two steps. Then, repeat this process, beginning with a
new foundation chain from the end of one dc stitch as you create the stitching until you get to the
size of the granny square that you want.
You will then use the granny square on whatever you may want, from small table mats to covers
for items in the house such as sound systems and TV sets. Depending on how you have woven it,
you can also use it as a cover for pillows or small furniture like stools.

This is an example of a granny square. As we see, it alternates between SC and dc, as well as
loops on chains and rows.

Crochet Socks
Crochet socks are other easy designs that you will find it easier to so when you are a beginner.

According to Clara Parkes, the best yarns for socks are those that are elastic, meaning that they
will need to stretch when you dip your foot into it, then wrap around the foot comfortably and
warmly once you have worn it.

You will use your basic crochet when you do this, while you will need additional experience to
make more complex socks like ankle-high socks and those with frilled edges or fancy patterns.

However, if you want simple, ankle-length socks, here you will need to alternate between the
single crochet and double crochet. You will alternate between these two, lapping them over each
other as you move through the foundations' chains, leaving the fabric closely-knit. This is what
we call the seed stitch crochet.

So, you are being with your foundation chain and then flip it over and begin to work on the
turning chain, then make the first stitch, which will work as your first double crochet in the first
row. Then, start to alternate between the dc and sc. Once you make your first dc, then, make the
SC after that, then the dc, SC as you progress. Then make these stitches across the rows. When
you start with a dc, you will then end the row with sc.

Once you finish, turn it over and begin working on the turning chain. But since you will have
flipped over the wool, you will be working in reverse, your dc going above SC and your SC
going above dc.

To continue creating the rows that you need, repeat the process from the moment when you
made your first dc. You will repeat this process depending on how long you want the socks to be,
though as a beginner, you should probably make it as short as possible as you work on your hand
movements and ironing out the problems that may arise when you make a mistake.
Crochet Seat Covers
You will find these in many homes and cars, providing the room with an antique, authentic, and
comforting feel. And the thing about these is that the patterns are relatively easy to follow, with
the size and design also mainly depending on how you want it. But you will want to keep it
straight if you're going to create an extensive material.

Once you have done your slip knot and created your foundation chain, then make four stitches
and two rows. Then, in the first round, create eight single crochet stitches then make two SC
stitches in each stitch.

In this, as with the socks, you will alternate between dc and sc. Once you create the two first
rows, create another chain. Then, on the first row, the fourth chain from the hook, make dc
through until the end of the row. Then, on the second chain, on the second row, make double
crochet until then end. Repeat this on the third row, third chain. Once you have finished these,
then close the terms. At this point, you will have a square granny design, and you will then work
from here through with additional rows and chains depending on how long you want it to be and
how much you want it to cover the seat.

However, if you want to add on color and make it larger, create additional rows and chains using
wool from the color that you want to infuse to the cover.

Square Blanket
This is one other straightforward pattern that you can learn. This one will also turn out great with
just one color, though you will then have to put a lot of time into it so that you can achieve the
thickness and size that you want.

Using the basis of the granny square, make your foundation chain then create three more. Begin
to make double crochets then, then loop them to create double stitches. After this, then connect
these two double stitches through the third chain. After this, create another three dc but with the
dc going into the foundation of the first round.

Go through this step until you get to the size that you desire. Or extra thickness, you could use
the technique of socks and use alternating dc and SC to create additional loops and knots to the
width that you desire.
Alternatively, you can still use this basis to create table cover, but then you will not need to make
it substantial and thick as you would have with a blanket.
Chapter 11 Crochet Tips and Tricks
This set of tricks and tips on crochet should make crocheting simpler, more enjoyable and more
successful. Some of these are about crocheting itself, while others are about handling the
materials and keeping them sorted and in appropriate condition, and preventing typical crochet
job problems.

If you start to get overwhelmed with challenging assignments and flame out, just have a simple,
enjoyable project on hand so you can focus on it before you're able to tackle the tougher one
again. Place your yarn balls in a clean, recycled cylindrical wipes tub to prevent them from
slipping out or rolling. The yarn passes out of the exact hole from which the wipes went.

If a pattern has different color shifts a little distance apart, then you may take the color you don't
need into the last row and then crochet it back, and start using it again as you hit the next place
where it actually belongs.

Place the hooks in a case or a pencil case, a jewelry box or a travelling holder for toothbrushes or
put them on a piece of wood and for bigger hooks, you should glue fishing lines to the wood
piece and place the hooks on it.

Many recycled meal and snack cans may be reused for this as well.

You can use a search engine like Google to turn grams into ounces, or vice versa.

Enter a sentence like convert Ten grams into ounces. You'll get the response from the search
engine.

Label your pattern using the Microsoft Excel template. It is a perfect Techie crochet guide! Print
out your design so that your rows can be numbered when you move. It makes you recall where
you are when the disruption happens. For less eyestrain, you can render the template print larger
too. And you can also use the color coding method of the cells by filling color in each of them.

To find out how much yarn or thread a project would take, check how much rows you can
actually get using one yarn ball, and then work out how much rows the project requires. Divide
the amount of rows in the project by the amount of rows that the skein provided you, so you
know the number of balls you have to get.
Use a white washable yarn for all and then dye it to prevent purchasing yarn shades you won't be
able to finish with. If you think you cannot finish the yarns that you buy and you need a lot of
different colors for your projects, this is the best tip that you can bring into work. Get one white
colored yarn or two balls, dye them however you want. If you want 5 yards of yarn in some color
for a project, take the yarn and then dye it as you please. It saves your money as well!

Use a yarn needle instead of using a hook to thread the ends right back in, to fasten the frame.

This better secures them and it also reduces the risk of raveling.

Stick a bobby pin, safety pin, or paper clip into it and close or rotate to mark the line.

Modelling clay is used to make the hooks easy to hold. Mold the clay around a handle, put your
grip on it, so it's suited to your fingertips, and then bake the clay as instructed.

Take nail clippers instead of taking scissors while flying by plane so you can hold the crochet
with you. When you can't live without crocheting, carry your project in your travel bag which is
still ready to catch and go.

Hiding stitches: you need to take the end of your thread and knit it a few times onto the other
stitches. If your thread has many loops, you pull them up loosely, and it'll be simpler to trace
around them.

Ironing for crocheted designs is not always perfect. Instead, combine similar quantities of starch
and water, liberally spray the product with it and put it on some flat surface to dry out. When the
wool does not want to go through a needle's head, plunge the wool's end into transparent nail
polish and curl it firmly when it's drying. When you are unexpectedly disturbed, just make a loop
really wide on your thread. This way, the thread won't be missed if it's interrupted or played with
by kids or pets.

If you've learned that throwing thread/yarn clippings in a bag (you can use a mesh bag) is a
brilliant idea and hang that from any tree so that birds can use it as breeding stuff, that's not it!

Birds are far more reactive respiratory systems compared to other species, and can inhale and
inflict harm to tiny fibers – which may be lethal too.

Should not put thread or wool where birds will get a hold of it.
Tips for Beginners
Be sure to wash it and tie it back until you continue crocheting if your hair is long enough to get
in the way. This helps prevent hair from being caught in your job. Keep cats out of the house
while you knit, if possible. A cat does not appear to be able to handle a travelling wool ball.
Without much effort, a cat will destroy a crochet attempt, too.

You may want to remove your jewelry before crocheting, particularly rings and bracelets. Yarn
will grab and hamper your progress on jewelry.

You might be tempted to tear the sticker off your yarn skein and get to work if you're eager to
get your project underway. Technically, you can crochet using yarn skeins, but in certain
situations, if you take the time to wound the skein into a ball first, you can produce exceptional
performance. It is especially true to newcomers.

Centre-pull yarn skeins will tangle at the end with ease. Yarn balls are less prone to be mixed up.
They are raising anxiety.

If you're having a rough time hitting even stress, start operating with a yarn ball instead of a
skein. Ball winders are required to support you with this role so you may do it by hand as well.

Please try to place the yarn accurately. Place the yarn ball to allow it to unwind when you
crochet quickly. When you crochet in a cozy chair at home, the yarn ball may be held at your
feet in your lap or on the board; however, you want. When you crochet on an aircraft or in a
driving car, tuck the yarn ball into a tote bag to avoid it from spinning and unwinding.

Ergonomic crochet hooks are meant for comfort. If you can find an ergonomic hook that you
like, it could make your crocheting time more fun than it might otherwise be.

Beginner crocheters prefer either to work too tightly or too loose. If your work is too close,
choose a larger crochet hook. If your work is too loose, choose a smaller crochet hook. Bear in
mind that the hook size shown on the thread label is no more than a recommended starting point.
The best way to do so is when you do swatches of your scale.

In the middle of the job, aim to stop adjusting hooks. You want to keep the stitches accurate
across the entire process. If you turn hooks, you are in danger of confusing. Also, shifts of the
same scale from the hook of one maker to that of another may be troublesome. The design of the
hook is not necessarily compatible between suppliers. Slight variations in the shape of the hook
may affect the way you handle the hook or form the stitches.

There are no "crochet cops" even if an experiment fails, nothing catastrophic can happen to you.
Training and practice are two of the most straightforward strategies to move free from the role of
a novice. Find such necessary studies as changing colors in a pattern, or choosing various yarns.
Attach or remove details: When you don't like a design that calls for fringe, substitute an edging,
attach a flower to a simple cap. Do not be scared to seek more complicated tests when you know
more: Apply stripes to a simple design. Or vary the stitches which you are using. You can also
improvise customizations by having long sleeves on a jumper instead of shorter sleeves, change
the neckline.

It is necessary to take the time to turn the gauge. You may be inclined to believe it's a waste of
time to crochet gauge swatches. This is an essential part of the project, mainly if it's a garment in
your project. Unless you miss the swatch scale, the project would most definitely wind up being
the wrong amount.

So, don't be scared to disentangle. When you find just a few rows back, you made an error, cut
the stitches right up to that stage and start again.

By now, you've already worked out there are lots of potential crochet solutions, and they're all
real. Many lifetime crocheters have special insights and know-how to share.

Enter a nearby crochet community or find a platform where you can use these experienced
experts to start learning. Also if you've been crocheting for years, there is something different
you may know.

Take a break: Getting frustrated with a new project, or giving up when things go wrong, is
simple. Instead of wallowing in suffering, take a few minutes off. Your brain should feel
renewed when you return and able to handle even the trickiest formula.

Be careful about your posture: A significant issue about crocheting is that needle crafters
moaning about back pain and wrist discomfort. When you first learn to crochet, make healthy
posture a routine, and it will stick with you forever. Don't lean back, and if your hand begins to
hurt, make sure to stop. You should also seek some knitters, and crocheters hand stretches and
exercises to reduce discomfort.

Take a crochet lesson: To learn the basics and for know-how, it is always a good thing to take a
lesson or a class for the purpose. Like going to school, when you start it, you learn basics. After
you are done learning the basics, you get better at what you do. You first learn the alphabets, and
then you learn to write a sentence. When you are done learning, you can construct a sentence or
write an essay on your own. The same is the case with crochet. Once you take a class for it and
get better, you can easily crochet whatever you want. Start with learning different stitches. If you
do not want to leave your home, you can find lessons and various tutorials online as well.

Always keep a record of your stitches: When you first begin to crochet, you are more apt to start
to win and lose stitches per thread, resulting in all your projects coming out wavy and
inconsistent. If you're a novice, count the stitches while you operate on will side. That can be a
huge hassle, but the determination to hold it level is entirely worth it.

Keep swatching: This is one tip for every crocheter standard. When beginning a new project,
check it before plunging in. While dealing with a template, make sure that the gauge fits the
scale of the design. Swatching is a perfect time to test out a new pattern, too. If you perfect it in
the swatching point, going on to the project would be completely fabulous.

Keep a look at your storage: If you're ready to take the crochet plunge, your yarn and equipment
stock can expand exponentially. Plan now, before things get out of control, for those large
volumes of supplies with clever storage ideas. The tips for packing materials for knitting will
also work for crocheters!
Chapter 12 Mistakes Crochets Make and Solution
As a beginner, you must come across your fair share of frustrations as you get stuck into your
crocheting. Mistakes could happen by not following instructions accurately, or simply as a result
of practice. Remember, there are certain methods you can adjust slightly to suit you, as long as
they don’t affect the appearance of your stitches and your pattern.

Learning to crochet can be a wonderful experience, so try not to get too despondent if you don’t
always manage to do everything properly at first. It is a very time-consuming craft and requires a
lot of skill which you will develop over time. Don’t be too hard on yourself and just have fun.

Perhaps you may not be familiar with some of these depending on how much crocheting you
have done up to this point. Read through them and keep them in mind if you ever have any of
these challenges in the future.

Inserting your hook into the wrong chain when you start

Don’t count the first chain on the hook because it is just a loop, your first proper chain is the first
chain from the hook which is the one next to and the one after that is the second loop on the
hook.

When you use US stitches when your pattern contains UK pattern terms

This can sometimes be really easy to miss and cause several complications. An easy way to
check is to look out for single crochet instruction as this confirms that your pattern is a US
pattern that uses US terminology.

Not considering blocking as an important step

First of all, blocking involves handwashing an item and then pinning it into place on a blocking
mat. The reason for doing this is to straighten the item and flatten it if needed. It is possible to
machine wash your item, just use the hand setting. There are times when blocking isn’t
completely necessary, whereas so for you. If you intend to wash it then be sure to use the
blocked gauge measurements.

Making starting loops using linked chains and not a magic loop
You could use methods of starting your crocheting in the round. The first is to work four or five
chain stitches and join them in a circle by using a slipstitch. This is the simplest method.

However, a more effective method is to start loops using a magic circle. The center of the circle
is much tighter than that of a regular circle linked by a chain stitch. The important thing to
remember is consistency, if you use motifs on any items, only use one method to create them as
your work will be tidier. So, try them both and see which one you are more comfortable with
using and stick to that method.

Not changing the size of your hook as needed

You may have done this and only realized it when your work didn’t look quite right. This can
happen when your starting chain is rather tight in comparison to the rest of your work. This is,
however, a common mistake among beginners. It is essential that you have the right tension in
your chain as it forms the foundation of your work.

One solution is to use a slightly larger hook than recommended in your pattern as this will help
you to have a more even tension throughout. It is not necessary to change the size of your hook if
your tension is correct. Always be aware of specific crochet hook sizes on your patterns.

Your work seems to be shrinking

If you find that your work is shrinking in places and the shape of your item doesn’t look right,
then you have probably made an error somewhere. The explanation for a mistake such as this is
usually a result of making your first stitch in the incorrect position.

Remember these points:

 For a single crochet, the first stitch is inserted into the first stitch of the row above.

 For your other basic stitches, it is the turning chain which is to be counted as the first
stitch. Hence, this first stitch is inserted into what is the second one of the last rows.

Not being able to identify your stitches

It is common for beginners to be so involved in trying to follow the instructions in their patterns
that they seldom check to see whether their stitches actually look the way they should. Never
fear, this is quite normal, and a mistake made by so many of us. There are lots of different
moving parts and it takes a while to catch your rhythm. When you first start crocheting, take a
moment to count your stitches and learn what they look like.

Avoiding new techniques because they seem too difficult.

If something seems too difficult, look at it more carefully before avoiding it completely. If you
can do the basic stitches, you’ll be able to handle nearly all the crochet techniques without any
problem. You may just need to practice a few times. The steps can sometimes seem a bit
intimidating, but if you read through them, you’ll see that they are made up of basic instructions.
So, don’t avoid trying something new, it may be easier than you think and you’ll be able to take
your crochet to a new level before you know it!

Not learning enough about yarn

When you start buying yarns, learn as much as you can about them. You will, of course, have to
use certain yarns depending on the patterns you are using. But also try and find out which ones
are of good quality and don’t always go for the cheapest.

You don’t realize that your turning chain is the same height as the first stitch in the row.

You should be able to see that the starting chain of your row brings the height of your work up to
that of the first stitch in that row. For example, single crochet is one chain and half double
crochet is two chains. Have a look at this the next time you are crocheting.

Not being able to read patterns

Nowadays, one can tend to be a tad bit lazy when it comes to reading patterns. This is because
online videos are much quicker and easier to follow for some of us. However, this is not ideal, as
one should be able to read patterns. By reading through the pattern steps, you’ll be able to create
a picture in your mind of what the pattern should look like and it will give you a better
understanding of what you are doing.

Not learning corner-to-corner (C2C) crochet

The C2C method is an important and useful one to learn. You will most definitely use it many
times and it is great for making blankets and other garments. Don’t avoid this one, try it and
practice, you won’t be sorry you did.
Not learning how to crochet in the round

It is important to see how this works and then try it. This is vital to improving your crochet skills,
so don’t put off learning how to crochet in the round. It is a valuable technique to know how to
use.

Not learning how to weave in ends properly

This is one of the most common mistakes made by beginners. It is so easy to just tie knots to the
ends, but this is not the proper way of doing it and it is not neat either. Learn to weave the ends
into the surface by using the tapestry needle to finish your work off.

Worrying about your mistakes

Making mistakes is what helps you to learn and improve your work. Lots of practice and even
more patience, as well as some creativity, is what makes a successful crocheter. You will have to
undo your stitches from time to time, or even start over again, but that is fine. You are not only
learning how to follow instructions; you are also getting used to using your tools and materials so
be patient.

Trying out complex patterns first

So often, ladies are in a hurry to create the most beautiful colorful garments without being able to
master the stitches or change their yarn colors. This could result in a disaster which could also be
incredibly discouraging. Just keep it simple until you are confident with basic crochet work.

Giving up too soon

It is too easy to just pick up your crochet hook, try out a few stitches, and then give up if they
don’t work. You might feel as though you are getting nowhere, but that is not true. Give yourself
plenty of time to learn the basics because once you can do that, then you can move forward and
make so many items. If you cannot get your basic stitches right, then you will have problems
making your item. Take it easy and things will slowly start coming together.

Even the most skillful people struggled at first, so go for it and enjoy it!
Chapter 13 Crocheting Background
Knitted fabrics are said to have been in existence since the earlier times. Its origin is however
unclear since the skill was mostly been spread verbally between interested parties. They would
copy the crochet pattern from someone's original work. This would result in different types of
crochet mistakes hence no perfection of any of the styles.

Research states that crocheting may have started in china through their needlework which was a
very common practice in Turkey and India as well as in North America. It is after this that the
crocheting methods reached Europe but they would refer to it like a tambourine. Tambourine
later evolved to ‘crocheting in the air' since the fabric used in the background had to be removed
in order for the stitch to stand on its own.

Crocheted fabrics became popular in Europe in the 19th century. Instructions about crocheting
were first published in a magazine in the year 1823. The magazine had detailed information
about the color plate which contained different styles. After publishing the magazine, the first
crochet patterns were printed in 1824.

Mlle. Riego do la Branchardiere is said to have contributed a lot in the popularity of crocheting
in Europe. This is as a result of the patterns books that she published in the 1800s which were so
easy to duplicate. The pattern books were given to millions of women who had an interest in
crocheting. This was a sure way to ensure that the patterns reached as many women as possible
whether they could afford the books or not.

Many women around the world started copying the patterns which made crocheting so popular.
There are a lot of materials that one can learn from on the internet. One can, therefore, learn
about crocheting from websites and different sites on the internet. Different crochet pattern
books have also published which contain different and unique crochet styles. It is therefore
evident that crocheting has greatly evolved which has made it so popular. Many modern
crocheted clothing is already being sold in our markets worldwide.

 What makes one think of crocheting?

Many people around the world have mastered the art of crocheting. This is as a result of the
many benefits that come with it. Different people will, however, crochet for different reasons.
There are many people out there who may be wondering why people crochet. They do not see
enough reason why one should spend their free time crocheting. Most times, they lack the
motivation to start crocheting so it would be great if I highlight a few reasons for crocheting.

Crocheting is a stress reliever: Crocheting has been tried and proven to be one of the activities
that help people to relieve stress. This is because as you crochet, you can forget all the challenges
you may be going through. All your concentration is on the pattern making so all your mind is
occupied. As you crochet, all that is in your mind evaporates which helps a lot in relaxing your
mind. Whenever one needs to learn a new crocheting skill, they have to go through different
books, sites, and also apps that normally engage them mindfully. One forgets everything they are
going through since they are curious to learn a new skill.

Crocheting brings a great sense of accomplishment: There is no better feeling than seeing people
wear or cover themselves with items that you crocheted yourself. It makes you feel great about
the time you spent crocheting the items. It isn't a waste of time as you can see them enjoy the
fruits of your labor. That feeling is so fulfilling that you will want to keep crocheting. You will
also keep on discovering new patterns and after implementing the skill, there will be a great
sense of fulfillment.

Crocheting enables you to have an alert mind: People grow older each day. Crocheting offers a
lasting solution to people who would want to remain alert as well as stimulated. One has to
remain alert especially when they are working on new a new pattern. Isn't it, therefore, important
to engage our minds with crocheting?

Keeping the tradition alive: We mostly inherit the crocheting skills from our parents, aunts, and
even from our grandmothers. It would be a great thing to keep the tradition alive by passing it on
to the people around us. It is very important to ensure that we pass down the crocheting art to our
children and even the people around us. For every crochet, there is some bit of love from the
people we learn the art from.

Crocheting keeps you busy: Whenever one is crocheting, their mind is fully engaged. This means
that they are busy hence will not be thinking about anything else. Being busy is beneficial in that,
one won't be idling around without doing any meaningful thing. For most people, crocheting is a
hobby so they use their free time doing it.
Enhancing one's creativity: We learn a new trick every day. Through crocheting, one can perfect
their skills by designing new patterns. They can creatively mix different color schemes to come
up with beautiful patterns which make the crochets to be more appealing. It is through
Crocheting that one can experience a comforting effect from the great textures created through
the repeated movements using yarns of different colors.

Health benefit: Apart from relieving stress, crocheting is of great benefit to people suffering from
arthritis. This is because as one works through various stitches, the fingers remain nimble hence
reduce the risks of arthritis. People who get Alzheimer’s attacks are also advised to consider
engaging in crocheting. This is because they can reduce the attacks by a great percentage.
Whenever they engage themselves in learning a new skill, they get to preserve some of the
memories the have made in the past.

 The Economic part of Crocheting

Many people around the world have been able to learn crocheting skills. It is an industry that has
grown and has empowered very many men and women around the world. This has greatly
improved the economy. Below are some of the economic impacts of crocheting. Do crotchets
have an economic impact? Several people may not find crocheting beneficial. They may not see
it as a source of income, but it contributes immensely to the economy.

During cold seasons people look for warm things to keep them warm. They, therefore, have to
purchase scarfs, sweaters, socks, and other products made from yarn. This increases the rate of
yarn production as a result of the increase in demand for crocheted items. This is said to lead to
the growth of the economy. Below are some of the economic impacts brought by crocheting.

So many crocheting companies have been opened which has created employment opportunities
for many families around the world. They can take care of their families from the income they
earn from the crocheting companies.

Women can crochet items and sell them to people in their neighborhood which enables them to
earn some income. This helps to improve the economy since they do not become dependent on
the government for their survival. The government is, therefore, able to concentrate on other
development projects since its people are not overly dependent on them.
People have also been able to come up with unique patterns and have published them in books
that are later sold to interested parties. This acts as a source of income for the publisher which
also helps in the growth of the economy.

The experts in this area have also taken up the role of training more people in crocheting. This
ensures the empowerment of more people which means more skilled individuals in a country.

Individuals who have specialized in information technology also develop apps which contain
crochet instructions. This has helped people to have easy access to the skills so anyone can
install the app and learn the skills in their own free time.

 Social and Traditional Impact of Crocheting

Crocheting has had a great impact on our society. The skill keeps on being passed on from one
generation to another. This has helped a lot in impacting people's lives socially and even
traditionally. Below are some social and traditional impacts brought about by crocheting?

For Charity: Most often, we find ourselves with different types of crotchets which we mostly
make during our free time. One can craft some items and give them out for charities. It will
always feel great when one benefits from an item crocheted with a lot of love.  It will act as a
way of showing your generosity and sense of care for others. One will feel good when someone
appreciates something that was made purposely to suit their need.

Aesthetic value: Crocheting can display the beauty of a tradition. Before the invention of big
companies that dealt with the manufacturing of clothes, people used to wear crocheted clothes.
Some people make crochets to beautify the environment. One, therefore, makes items that they
are sure that they will make their environment calm. This will enable them to feel relaxed
whenever they are around.

Boost self-esteem: We all feel good when complimented for doing something so well.
Compliments motivate us to produce better crochets which are better than the last ones.  When
we sell the crafts, we made or give it as a gift, it boosts your self-esteem. You feel great about
your accomplishments. Self-esteem can also be built through learning new skills. One can feel
productive which creates beauty through self-expression.
Reduces stress and anxiety: We all get stressed up at some point in our life. We may become
anxious as a result of the strenuous activities we may have engaged in on our daily activities.
One needs to give themselves a break. Getting a yarn and crochet would be of great help in
relaxing their mind. It is through the repetition of the stitches as you count the rows that your
mind gets some kind of relaxation. All the anxiety thoughts are set free since your focus is on
creatively making the crochets.

Eases and relieves depression: Our emotions keep changing depending on the occasion. For
instance, in the grieving period, it seems impossible to overcome your grief. Most times we feel
like the world has come to an end. Crocheting can be a comforter during the grieving period.
Crafting such as crocheting is said to be helpful in the stimulation of dopamine which enables
one to feel happier and emotionally stable.

Keeps one busy: Imagine you are left at home alone.  No other work for you, you can choose to
do some crocheting. You will be relaxing at the same time keeping yourself busy. You don't
have to create wonderful products out of it. The whole idea is to keep your mind engaged
through a useful course which may help you earn some income or even contribute to charity. In a
scenario where you are following up on a program on the television, your hands will be busy
crafting while your eyes are glued to the television. The best thing about crocheting is that one
can engage every member of the family. They will be able to contribute to various ideas about
what you are making and suggestions on colors and even designs.

Brings communities together: There are many ways to bring people together. One of them is
having yarn crafting introduced to a community. They can have a meet up in public to do
crocheting. The organizers can organize a fiber fair together with related events. This will be of
great help since people from different places will be able to meet and share ideas. They will be
able to learn from one another hence more creative designs. The community can even come
together and build yarn stores which will benefit the community from the sales made in the store.
All the participants can also buy the yarn at a reduced price which will enable them to make
more crocheted items for sale. They in return become more productive which brings economic
empowerment amongst them.
Chapter 14 How to Manage Your Crochet Business
Everything covered here is important to making money with your crochet items.  Of course you
will customize everything to suit your personal vision, but all of these topics are a must for
running your business effectively and generating a profit.

Marketing:

Marketing is one of the most important things you will tackle when it comes to running your
own business.  There are many companies out there who will do this for you for a fee, but doing
it yourself is not as difficult as it seems.  Most business rely on email marketing to inform
customers of sales and to just keep the business in the minds of potential consumers.

Email may be a mainstay for most online businesses but it is not the only way to market
effectively.  Blogging was mentioned as an important way to generate sales and it is one of the
best ways to attract potential customers.  Using email and a blog together is very effective.  Most
people will provide their email to receive blog updates quicker than they will to receive
personalized commercials in their inbox.

Make an awesome logo!  Your logo will announce your presence to the world so make it
memorable.
Use the name of your store in your logo, incorporate the initials, or create an image that stands
for the name of your store.  Use your imagination and you will come up with something great;
you can always hire someone to create a logo for you, but you are a creative person, go ahead
and give it a try.  Do an online search for crochet stores and check out their logos, this is a good
way to get a feel for making one of your own.

Social media is one of the best ways to generate business.  Facebook has the option to create a
page for your business.  Use the page on Facebook to tell your followers about your newest
product, drop interesting information about your blog, and post relevant “crochet” posts to keep
your followers interested in crochet and your business.

There are so many ways to use social media to promote your new store.  For every friend or
family member you recruit to follow your page, there is the potential to generate more followers.
Offer discounts for following you, offer free crochet patterns from time to time, and create a
short video on YouTube on “how to crochet” basics; all of these things can and do generate
traffic to your site.

Maintain a twitter account and use it to spread the word about your awesome store by posting
links to your “how to videos”, free patterns, and discount offers.  Make sure you choose
something interesting from your blog and tweet a few lines to get people interested in following
the link to your store.

Special Orders:
Special orders are not as profitable as the small easy to craft items.  Generally special orders
require certain colors, types of yarn, and size requests.  Customers do like the option for a special
order if they cannot find the size or color they want, but it can be time consuming for you as
well.  It is a good idea to add a fee for special orders if you decide to offer them.  This is
something you will have to decide for yourself.

Special orders are attractive to those who are looking for customized items for babies, or specific
events.  Monograming is one special order that is easy to do and is not time consuming.  The
choice is yours, if you do decide to offer special orders, be sure to include a part in your store
policies about these orders.  It may be hard to resell an item with initials or odd colors; offer
returns at your discretion.

Store Policies:

Store policies let your customers know exactly what to expect when they purchase an item from
you.  You need to explain returns, refunds, exchanges, shipping, *special orders, and discount
offers.  Look at the store polices on sites you visit; this will give you an idea on what to include
in your store policies.

Accepting Payments:

When you create your online store, you will have a *shopping cart*.  Customers will add items
to their shopping cart and when they are finished they will check out.  You will need to provide
your customers with payment methods to complete the checkout process.
PayPal is one way to offer customers the ability to pay with their own credit card or debit card
through PayPal.  There are many other online payment options to choose from.  Research online
payment methods and choose the one that provides what you are looking for.  Some charge you a
fee for using their service to accept different types of payment methods, all of the rules are
spelled out when you read through their policy agreements.

Taxes:

When you open an online store you will need to make sure you handle your own taxes.  The best
thing to do is to find and purchase tax software for the self-employed, quicken by Quick Books
provides this type of software.  Using tax software to keep track of your taxes is the best way to
stay out of trouble with the IRS

Shipping:

You have several options for shipping items to your customers.  You can use the post office, or a
privately owned shipping company like FedEx, or UPS.  The fees associated with your choice of
shipping should be listed in your store policies.  Include a handling fee to cover the cost of
packaging and allow your customers to calculate shipping when they check out.

Another popular way to handle shipping is to just add it to the price of your item and state that
shipping is included; this only works if you use flat rate shipping methods.

How to Price Your Items:

Pricing your items for sale can seem challenging.  You spent a lot of time creating your items,
and the price you paid for your supplies should be worked in…you don’t want to over price, and
underpricing will have you working your butt off for less than others are charging.  There is a
formula that will help you price your items, make a profit, and have return customers.

Market research is the first step.  You must do some research online at stores similar to the one
you are opening, or on the market place where you plan to sell your items, or at craft shows and
fairs where you want to have a table or stall.  Once you have an idea of what others are charging
for similar items, you need to find out if those items sell for the price they wanted.

If someone is selling similar scarfs to yours on eBay and they charge $35 that does not mean
they actually sell it for $35.  You need to see what they have sold in order to know what they get
for a scarf.
After you know what your competition is selling their items for, you know the price rage for
your own.  Try to sell right in the middle or just a bit under the average price, then slowly up
your price as you gain repeat customers.
Chapter 15 Some Other Points Worthy Of Note in Crocheting
How to Hold the Hook When Crocheting

It is very important that the hook is held properly while doing crochet work. This will reduce the
incidence of pain in your wrist and will even make your work go on smoothly. There are two
major methods mentioned in crochet literature. They are the pencil hold and the knife hold.

 The pencil hold: One way of gripping you hook is by holding it with your thumb,
index finger, and middle finger. You can just imitate the way you'll hold your writing
pencil.

The pencil hold

 The knife hold: You can also hold it like your knife, with your palm on the handle,
your three fingers wrapped around it and your index finger pointing towards the head
of the hook. (See illustration)
The Knife hold

Which of the two methods mentioned above is better?

In the real sense, we all have different ways of handling stuff. We all hold our writing pencils
differently, and it is part of what accounts for the differences in handwriting. Two different
people might also have different ways of holding the knife. So, I will say find the style that suits
you and crochet away!

Right and Wrong Sides of A Crochet Piece

In the art of crochet, working at the wrong side might lead the crocheter into making errors and
therefore result in frogging. Working on the wrong side can also give a crochet result that is
entirely different from what the crocheter had in mind (or in the picture.)

How do you avoid working on the wrong side of a crochet piece?

You can avoid this by not doing any crochet on the tail of the yarn. The tail of the yarn is the
length of the yarn between your piece and the ball or skein of yarn.

For the piece to be on the right side, the tail should be at the bottom right corner.

How to Differentiate the Front And Back Of A Chain Stitch

While come authorities will tell you to work from back to the front, others might instruct you to
do the reverse. Also, while some will ask you to do the front loop only (flo), the back loop only
(blo) might turn out to be the focus of some other instructional guides. Not following these
instructions might lead to you ending up with a work that is different from what you had in mind
before you started.

The front of a loop looks like Vs sitting on top of one another while the back looks like humps.

Frogging (Undoing Crochet)

Frogging in crocheting terms simply means to correct an error. Stitches that have been crocheted
in error can be ripped out and remade. You just have to be patient and gentle with the fabric
when doing so. Frogging can both be easy and painful at the same time.

You just have to pull out your hook and rip it off till you get to the point where the error was
made and just continue again. You can roll the frogged yarn into a ball or around a material to
prevent it from tangling. What’s most painful? You have no choice but to do it again as soon as
frogging occurs! It is advisable to mark the point where you are to stop frogging with a stitch
marker so as to avoid ripping beyond the necessary point.

When you are frogging, you should not be very fast with it. Instead, to make your frogging
smooth, you need to be slow-paced enough to detach the stiches from the base of the stitch and
not pulling upwards.

It is not impossible that you have knots in your work (points where you had to join a piece of
yarn to the other), and when you get to points like this, you should be careful to untie the knot
first. If it is tightly tied and can't be untied, cut it off.

Crotchet can also be frogged entirely to reclaim it. You can decide to use the yarn to make
something else, and so frogging becomes necessary.
Using A Crochet Gauge

It is not uncommon for a beginner crocheter to find out that his or her crochet piece is different
from the one predicted by the instructions followed. It might be bigger or smaller.  A crochet
gauge is a very good tool for a beginner to get the expected result.

What does a crochet gauge do? Just like the name implies, a crochet gauge ‘gauges’ crochet
projects. It specifies measurements in crochet by indicating the number of stitches per centimeter
or inch.

How to use a crochet gauge

1. Before you start a crochet project, look for the gauge aspect of the instructions. Read
and understand it.

2. Make your base chain to be a little bit longer than the length recommended by the
gauge
3. Get the correct hook size and yarn weight* by following the instructions. Yarn might
be light or bulky or in between the two. Try to get the one specified by the
instruction.

*Note: The weight of your yarn = the thickness of your yarn. It is NOT the weight of the ball or
skein of yarn that you have. You can check the yarn pack, it should be written there.
Conclusion
Thank you, dear reader, for making it through the pages of this book. We put in our best efforts
of research to facilitate this so that you took the time to read through.

In this book we trust that you have learned;

 What is crocheting and how it differs from knitting and how it can be a useful tool
for you to relax and make time to improve your creativity.

 We trust that you have understood what yarns are, what is the crochet hook, and the
types of crochets that then determine the kind of pattern that you would use.

 We trust you have to know how to hold the crochet hook - with the end looking
down, and how to keep the wool - between your thumb and the fourth finger, though
you can use the hold that you are comfortable with, as long as it allows for the
smooth movement of the working yarn between your fingers.

 We also know that you have found the teaching on the techniques of crocheting
valuable, from the basic of how to make a slip knot to how you will then improve on
that to making double stitches, how to fasten off once you complete the process and
then how you will then sew in buttons into the knit, as with a bolero.

 And to make it easy for everyone, we have also included ways in which you will
learn to hold the yarn as a right-handed or left-handed person. This is perhaps
something that many of the people who give this will not mention, but it is essential
to know how to hold the hook in a way that you are comfortable with so that you will
do it at a pace and angle that you are most comfortable doing.

 We have also given you details of some of the stitching patterns closely and how
they then come in handy in how you will learn to make the patterns that you want to
make as a beginner. Some of the stitching patterns we have looked at are how to
create a slip knot, which is the basis of all crochet, then how to create a foundation
chain and how to create a single crochet, double crochet as you move to the item that
you want to create. Among the patterns, we have looked at is the classic granny
square, which you obviously knew we would include, the blanket, socks, headgears,
and how you can then make a sweater. All these contain detailed processes of how
you can do it, along with diagrams that we hope you dear reader will find invaluable
as you make your move to then making crochet your hobby or adding it to your
skillset.

Crocheting is an age-old practice that was passed down for generations, primarily through
mothers to their daughters, but it has become increasingly inclusive, with men also getting into
the practice. Thus, it is invaluable that you chose us among the many books to read and that you
have read this book to the end means that you found it very helpful and one that is worth sharing.
