GOLDEN SECRETS
LESSON No. I
Imagine yourself walking up to a full length mirror, pausing -
then audibly saying to the reflection: "I'd like to introduce you to me."
That is virtually what is going to happen in this first lesson. I am
going to introduce you to yourself. How long have you lived with
yourself? All of your life, of course. Do you know yourself? You might
have thought so, but you'll have a different opinion by the time you
finish with the first few lessons.
Within that wonderful body of yours you have the answer to every
problem which has been disturbing you. Do you want riches? You
have the key to untold wealth, but you have not used it. Do you
want more friends - more personal power? Right now - locked
within the depths of your CREATIVE MIND is the secret which will
make you a magnet, drawing people to you.
Do you want better health? You have within a direct contact
with the source of all life.
Do you want happiness? It can be found in one place only -
and that is within. As we progress with this course, you will discover
a new sense of happiness you never experienced before.
Have you ever described yourself as being " this way" or "that
way"; - such as : "I am musical," or "I am not musical?" Or, "I am
lucky," or "I am not lucky?" Do you know why you are "this way" or
''that way?" Whether you can accept it now or not, you will learn
that the reason why you are "this way" or "that way" is because
you, your self, decided to be that way. You do not believe it? That's
a ll right. You will before you have completed many lessons.
In each lesson there will be a dominant thought, around which
ever ything in that lesson is built. By fixing the dominant thought
in your mind - you will have no difficulty in remembering all the
impor tant points given in the lesson.
1
The dominant thought in this lesson, which is so important that
I want to dwell upon it at length, is:
He had been a letter carrier for many years. His work had not
been easy; - lugging a heavy mail bag day in and day out, in weather
ranging from sweltering heat in the summer to the icy blasts of winter.
On his route was a mail-order house which received large bundles of
letters daily; most of them containing orders with money.

In the middle west, an accident took the life of the husband of a
very timid woman, leaving her and the young daughters without
visible means of support. This unhappy widow found that by drudging
at least fourteen hours daily, doing housework for others, as well
as looking after her own family, she could eke out an existance.·
2
Whenever she heard the stories of the success of other women,
she became more and more discontented with her own lot and gradually
sank to lower depths of despondency. After carrying on without a
husband for about two years, she was ready to give up. She had become
reconciled to the thought of putting the children into an institution and
taking a job as a domestic helper where she would have regular hours-
and regular periods for rest and relaxation.
One day this sad woman happened to pick up a card bearing the
thought: "You can do ANYTHING if you THINK you can." "Oh yes?"
she said t~ herself ; s sfie visu; lizedher own plight. Then, after a few
moments of sane reflection, she asked herself this challenging ques-
•
tion: "Why can't I do the things I would like to do?" Almost as though
an inner voice had whispered to her - she got the answer. It came to
her clearly that the reason why she was in her predicament was,
bcause she had never seen herself as anything else.

One day while Mr. A. (we'll call him) was eat ing a sandwich at
a counter in a downtown restaurant, he saw one of the big shot sales-
man (and we'll call him Mr. B.) sitting at a table with a prospect,
both of whom were enjoying a big, thick, luscious fillet mignon, Mr. A.
3
stared at Mr. B. for several moments trying to figure out what Mr. B.
had that he did not possess. Mr. A. knew that Mr. B. did not have
a better education, because they both went to the same school and
Mr. B . had not graduated, whereas Mr. A. had done so. What was the
difference? YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK YOU ARE!

_You are taking this course for the purpose of getting more out
of life· _ t 0 bl
' ena e you to get what you want. But - do you know
what You want? Am ·
· azmgly few of us know what we do want. We are
4
discontented, - but when someone pins us down with the question :
"Exactly, what do you want?" - it is hard to give an answer.
In your next lesson you begin laying out your "road map" for
your new life - which will take you to the goal of greater success,
better health and more happiness. But, before you reach that point,
it is necessary that you know just the direction in which you wish to
travel. So, as you continue, read with great care - and then follow
instructions: -
All right : You have already learned that YOU ARE WHAT YOU
THINK YOU ARE! From this day on - you are going to begin chang-
ing your mental image of yourself; - . in other words, you a re going to
begin seeing yourself as a NEW YOU! A personality radiantly mag-
netic; eminently successful and scintillating with Health and H appiness!
You have never been given a more pleasant task than the one
I will give you now. This is what I want you to do: For the next
few days think about the question: "If I could have anything I wanted
in life, - what would I want?" Sounds fantastic? Does it read like
the story of Aladdin and his Magic Lamp? P erhaps, but truth is
frequently stranger than fiction - and the ease with which we can get
more out of life is so l~ttle understood, that it is generally looked
upon as fiction. However, as much as it may seem too good to be
true, I want you to forget for the moment any possible limitations;
imaginary or real, and try to visualize just what you would like to
have in life.
Do you want more of the worldly goods? Would you like to haxe
a modern home? A new automobile? A large wardrobe? Lots of money
in the bank?
5
Do you want a better job? A business of your own? Do you want
more power? To be looked up to in your community? To be a person
of important affairs?
Right now you are beginning to sense that you will have hard
work ahead, but what a surprise is coming to you. One student aptly
described these courses by saying: "It is not so much a · question
of work to get good from .these lessons - as it is to learn to press the
right button, in order to make things happen."
In the second lesson you learn how to set the pattern for the
attainment of your objectives - regardless how extensive they may be.
From the third lesson onward, you'll begin to understand how nature
works with you in giving you what you EXPECT out of life.
15 GOOD MEMORY Can you recall facts when you want them?
16 SELF-CONTROL Are you master of your being?
20 Do you face each new day with thrilling anticipation, HAPP INESS
- or dread?
7
IMPORTANT SUGGESTION!
After you had read this lesson, lay it aside for twenty-four hours
and THINK about it in the meantime. Think of it as you would of a
Magic Key, which has been given to you, and which will open the
doors to greater success and happiness. The next day re-read the entire
lesson - s-l-o-w- l-y and thoughtfully. THEN - during the several
days, which you should allow yourself, before you start Lesson No. 2,
follow through on the instructions given in this lesson.
