• Pre-Reading:
Teach the word flyer (also spelled flier); compare to
poster, and ask where students see flyers in their
everyday environments, and list or discuss the
various purposes they serve.
• Skimming/Scanning:
Practice skimming/scanning skills by showing the
graphic of the flyer for 1-3 seconds on a projector,
then ask students what they noticed. Depending on
students’ proficiency levels, you may want to show
the flyer a 2nd time for a few more seconds.
• Predicting:
Before students read for details, ask them to predict
what they will read, based on the images, key
words, and format.
• Reading for Information:
Before students read for details, complete
vocabulary review exercises.
• Comprehension questions:
After students answer the true-false questions, go
over the answers to make sure they correct all the
false statements.
