2 Shared lesson learnt, good practice from PIP system/past experience ?

3
4
5
C) Design requirements:
1 Mandatory clauses of DCD/Client Technical Specification to be followed.

2 Check requirement of reduandant route for laying of Panel incomer cables

and load cables.
3 Check existing facilites in underground and above ground incase of brown
field projects
4 Check and avoid procurement of small quantities of hardware by merging it to
big quantity hardwares being procured. Refer PIP 2017-0398 for details

5 All raceway corridor shall be identified in intial stage of the project in plot
plan, building GA and 3D models. Consider Laydown and space reseved for
construction activities to plan for any raceway concept.

6 Any Client requirement for min. % future space provision in cable raceway ?

7 Any Client requirement for separate submission/formal approval requirement

for cable tray/conduit sizing calculation?
8
Check the availability of raceway sizes, accessories and types among local
vendors as it can vary from country to country. For Ex. Concrete hume pipes
are not readily available in Bangladesh.
9 Above ground cable tray / Cable trench / Cable Tunnels
9.1
Check requirement for use of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Tray and supports
in highly chemical area / mositure area like DM Plant, chlorination area,
Cooling tower.
9.2 Check requirement of sand filling / sealing of trench and pits.
9.3
Check Trech and Duct bank invert level wrt water table / rocks details in the
plant.
9.4
Check Fire wall requirement in case of cable tunnels, especially in KSA
projects.
9.5 Check Spare space/Tray to be provided.
9.6
Check space provision in existing route and/or provison of future routes.
9.7
Cable tray loading details on Boiler / OEM / Vendor structure shared to be
shared with respective agency and obtain their acceptance.
9.8
Check Requirement of Mutly Cable Transit (MCT) Blocks especially EIL/IOCL
projects
9.9

In case of unistrut design, Single vertical post for tray support shall be
applicable for max three trays of 600mm Width. In case of more trays
supports shall be tied to each other in consultation with civil/support vendor.
9.10 Check Hazardous area layout. In zone 0 & 1 Tray isnt allowed as raceway;
Conduits shall be provided. Also check cable type accordingly.

9.11
Check headroom clearance for road crossing and maintenance area to plan
tray supporting structure.
9.12
For tray drop from cable rack and pipe rack finalise the location after consult
with layout group and provide input to civil at the time of design of cable rack
and pipe rack.
9.13
Try to avoid undrground interface for raceway entering into a building to
avoid water ingres problem. Above ground interface with tray is better.
9.14
Avoid cable trenches in outdoor area for the plant located in desert area, as
trenches may be filled with sand during construction.
9.15
9.16
10 Duct bank / Directly Burried conduits
10.1
Check requirement of communication system duct banks, espeically KSA
projects
10.2 Check Spare space/Conduit to be provided
10.3 Check requirement of dedicated conduit to lay fire protection cables
10.4 Provison of future routes
10.5
Check feasiblity of duct bank / manhole based on crane movement especially
Boiler area, HRSG area
10.6

Check position of MV/large dia cables with respect to entry and exit position
to accommodate bending radius. Also, placement of ducts of MV cables to be
checked for heating due to derating for adjacent cables
10.7
10.8
D) Input :
1 Study of project specific Notes & Details for installation?
2 Study of equipment & it's locations where cable(s) shall be connected?

3
Study of plot plan/mechanical building/area where from & to equipment are
located?
4
Availability, Study & review of suitability of cable list ? (Electrical, C&I,
OEM/Vendor)
5 Cable diameter, cable weight details are available?
6 Obtain Loading details from Unistrut / FRP Tray vendors
7
OEM details and acceptance of tray supporting / loading on their structure
especially with LMB (Boiler), HRSG
8 Preliminary raceway available (in form of GA, sketch etc.)
9
Study of project CAD plan for specific CAD requirements and tagging
procedure?
10 Load List and Cable size
11
E) Interfacing requirements
1 Interface with various civil drawings coordinated?
2 Interface with various Mechnical GA and Piping drawings coordinated?
3 Interference run check and resolution of interference
4 Check zero interference is achived before releasing of drawing for
constrcution issue
5 Document is updated in line with latest GA and vendor drawings.
6 Interface with other cable raceway drawings are coordinated?
7 Grade elevation and Trench top to be coordinated based on site requirement.

8 Check with Mech whether CW pipe will be directly burried OR placed in Cable
trench.
9 Check requirement of cathodic protection conduits/cable raceway in the
plant, in the foundation of tanks, pump house slab and reservior walls.

10 Cable raceway supporting arrangement design & scope (Primary support &
Secondary support) shall be coordinated with civil team.
11 Any additional support requirement (i.e. beam, lintel, insert plate etc.) and
accessibility requirement (walkway, crossover, stair/ladder etc.) specially on
pipe/cable racks shall be coordinated with civil team.

12
F) MTO related
1 Tray, accessories and tray support scope among LTSL Electrical / civil and
vendor to be clarified prior to starting of the document and same shall be
captured in the drawings suitably.

2 Number of cable raceway (tray, duct, conduit) & accessories shall be

optimized.
3 Cable criss-crossing shall be avoided to optimize cable lenth & pulling time.

4 Supporting structure requirement shall be optimized.

5 All bolts, nuts and washers are to be galvanised coated if not otherwise stated

6
G) Potential HOLD(s)
1 Potential HOLD(s) & non avaialibilty of input identified & listed?
2 Non finalization of buidling/rack structure shall cause HOLD on finalisation of
cable tray arrangement.
3
4
5
H) Optimization and value engineering
1 Use of precast trench and manhole/hand hole shall be evaluated with EPC
contractor.
2 Insert plate and pulling eye requirement for cable support & pulling in man
hole shall be discussed with EPC contractor.
3 Identify raceway route if vendor supprted structure to be required and pass
the information to vendor beforehand to get the required permission.
Accordingly support structure/plate to be shown/provided by vendor to
minimise installation/construction effort.
