ACTIVITY : POLITICAL SELF

The following is an overview of your past or present experience of being a leader in any group
[activity, home, church, school]. Answer all questions completely

1. Was it easy for you to handle the group/organization?

It was neither easy nor difficult. My authority and effective leadership empowered me to
persuade my co-leaders and members.
2. What challenges have you encountered?
Conflict within a group is inevitable: differences in ideas and opinions, role confusions, poor
communication, and personal conflicts.
3. What goals were you able to achieve?
Usually, an organization sets a timeline of activities for a certain period (*semiannually,
annually). In the organizations I‘ve been in, we always see to it to accomplish every goal on
the timeline. Extra activities and projects are bonuses for accomplishment reports.
4. Based on the discussion, what type of leader do you consider yourself to be?
I am the type of leader that offers a sense of purpose and direction to my members. I am also
committed to monitoring the team‘s performance and offering the support each member
needs.
5. Is it easy to make decisions for the group? Why?
Yes, because this task is not entirely up to me. As an effective leader, I take into account
each idea and opinion my members could raise. We compile them into one good plan and
also mitigate possible risks and troubles we may face to smoothly execute the plan.
6. Is it easy for you to make group members perform the task? Why?
The difficulty depends on the members within a group. A group must have diverse skills and
interests. If possible, a leader must consider the scope of task/s before selecting team
members to determine which skills and interests best serve the group. If not possible, a
leader must monitor and support the members all the way.
7. What did your experience tell about your political self?
I was an active member of school government during elementary and high school. I took
positions from a grade representative, public information officer, secretary, and
mayor/president. The highest position I‘ve been in is vice president of the division federation
of student leaders. The higher the position, the more roles you have, meant higher difficulty.
PINOY AKO

I am a Filipino because..

I am a Filipino, born and raised in the Philippines. I speak and look very Filipino; small,
tanned skin, big nose, black hair. But there is more to being Filipino than what is physically
observable.

I remember a coffee advertisement of a foreigner in the Philippines. He happened to ask

for directions to an adult Filipina and she called him ―anak‖ or son like her very own. This is one
of my favorite Filipino traits. The warm welcome and courtesy we give to everyone, a foreign or
not, a kindred or a stranger. We manifest love and care to our actions even to people we just met
on our way, or especially to one‘s family. We are family-oriented to the extent that parents
would sacrifice being lonely and dead tired from working overseas. This is the main reason why
Filipinos are in demand in other countries. They strive to work hard for a purpose—providing for
their families left in the country.

We are also very religious. We put faith above all things. We abide by what is good and
what is right. Festivals are proofs that Filipinos are grateful for all the blessings provided by
God. Once a year, every household would extravagantly fill their tables with food even
sometimes this meant having less to spend for the next days. This bridges to resiliency. We are
able to resolve and withstand any thing in the midst of calamity and difficulties. Floods may
wash away our houses, but never the sweet smile on our faces and the courage to recover, to
stand again.

Filipino traits and values are too many to be compressed into one essay. The
aforementioned are just some of my favorites. A Filipino makes both a good leader and follower.
Our love and faith sprout all the other traits we possess. I could accomplish anything because I
am a true Filipino.

get upset if I refuse to agree with them or not. I let them know in the nicest

minimize having conflicts and resentments toward each other.
Sanitation I clean my environment as much as I can on my free time. I could not

YES, although it does not entirely eradicate the stress, my techniques and routines in

adds up if I don‘t deal with it at once. Take studies for example. Sometimes I just
tend to overthink while doing nothing about my workloads. They pile up over time
and hence I just breakdown and whine.
3. What do you do when you feel you‘re near your ‗breaking point‘?
I usually call my best friends and family to let the feeling subside. I also play with my

on what I need to do.
