Deviance is a behavior that violates the standards of conduct or

expectations or social norms of a group or society.

Types of Deviance
 Formal deviance – includes actions that are violate enacted laws,
such as theft, rape and other forms of criminality.
 Informal deviance – refers to violations of social norms that are not
codified into law such as prickling one’s nose, belching loudly and
spitting on the street among others.

Deviant behavior is any behavior that is contrary to the dominant norms of


society. There are many different theories that explain how behavior comes to be
classified as deviant and why people engage in it, including biological
explanations, psychological explanations, and sociological explanations.

Kinds of deviant behavior


Zoophilia- animals sex/
Pedophilia- sexually attracted to children
Aecrophilia- corpse vs. perms
Nymphomaniac – woman vs. everyone
Exhibitionism- showing private parts
Voyeurism – pleasure from watching other naked
Sadism - inflict pain, suffering
