Peak timings of Traffic in morning:

The peak timing of traffic in the morning is between 8am to 10 am. The reason behind the heavy
traffic is that there are so many vehicles going to school, colleges and universities. In addition to
that there are also people that have to go for their jobs and other work.
This situation can be countered if buses are provided for the students to go to their educational
institutes rather than using the individual vehicle because this will reduce the number of vehicles
on the road.
Peak timings of Traffic in evening:
The peak timing of traffic in the evening is between 5pm to 6pm and from 8pm to 11pm. The
reason behind the heavy traffic is that there during 5-6pm there are a lot of people that are
returning from the offices and other work. During the time 8-11pm there is heavy traffic at this
point because there are various restaurant and other food points nearby. Due to this reason a lot
of people come there and there is a lot of traffic at that time.
Different sectors contributing to traffic:
The sectors that contribute to heavy traffic at this Chowk varies with time. In morning most of
the people are going to educational institute therefore there is heavy traffic due to educational
sector. But in the evening most the traffic is due to the people that are returning from their jobs
and other work therefore the heavy traffic is due to that sector.

Preferable Route:
Most of the people prefer this route because this is one of the most economical route for them.
All the route take more time to reach the destination other than this one. In addition to this all the
roads connected to the “Akbar Chowk” are three lane roads and due to this reason the vehicle
can easily travel through this road. Another reason is that it connect two big arterial roads of
Lahore that is “Multan Road” and “Ferozepur Road”.
Possible Alternative Routes:
Although this route is economical yet there are many other routes that can be adopted to reach
the destination. These routes can be adopted during the peak traffic hours by the people that are
in very hurry to office or other work places. If we take the example of just Multan and Ferozepur
roads there are two more possible alternatives other than Akbar chowk route.

Via Ferozepur Road Via Wahdat Road

Measures to Control traffic:

The best control measures to manage the traffic are:
 Public Transport
 Making the road signal free
By providing more and better public transport there will be less vehicles on the roads and due to
this most of the traffic related problems can be solved. The other measure is to make the road
signal free. This can be done by constructing underpasses or flyover at that place.
