About ThuliteHide
Formula:{Ca2}{Al,Mn3+3}(Si2O7)(SiO4)O(OH)Colour:pinkName:Named after "Thule", the
ancient name of Scandinavia (and mythical island).First Recorded Locality:?
vsteb, Kleppan, Sauland, Hjartdal, Telemark, Norway
A variety of Zoisite

A pink variety of zoisite, frequently manganian, i.e. containing trivalent Mn (not

manganoan, which refers to divalent Mn). Originally described from Kleppan,
Sauland, Hjartdal, Telemark, Norway.

NOTE: "Thulite" from granite pegmatites and some metamorphic rocks is frequently
the clinothulite variety of clinozoisite and not true zoisite.

Visit gemdat.org for gemological information about Thulite.

Geological Setting:Much of the so-called thulite from granite pegmatites,
particularly in North Carolina, has proven to be clinothulite (Richard C. Erd,
unpublished data, 1996).
