5A Grammar: Future probability

“there’s a good chance that his plane will be late”. the expression there’s a chance that
means that something is possible. If we say there’s a good chance of something
happening, it is probable.
“it’s unlikely that he´ll land before half ten”. The expression it’s unlikely that means
something is not expected to happen. We can also say I doubt if, which has a similar
meaning.
“I’m sure he´ll be exhausted”. I’m sure because he is certain that something will be true.

Adverbs like certainly and probably come after will. But they come before won´t.
We can say “it’s likely that we´ll go” or “we´re likely to go”. The meaning is the same. We
can also use certain and unlikely in the same ways.
We can only use the adjective+ to+ infinitive from for the word bound. “they´re bound to
go” means they are sure to go.
“we could go” means it’s possible we´ll go. But, be careful. If we say “We couldn’t go” we
´re not talking about possibility, we are describing past ability.

1
Future perfect and future continuous
“I´ll be walking around Valletta” +this is FUTURE CONTINUOUS verb will be walking to
describe an action that will be in progress at a specific future time.
“I´ll be going sightseeing most days.” This time she uses the FUTURE CONTINUOUS to talk
about a planned routine in the future.
“Hopefully, I´ll have seen all the sights by the time I leave.” Will have seen is a FUTURE
PERFECT VERB. She uses it to describe an action that she hopes will be completed before a
specific future time. We often use by in time expressions with the future perfect.

We don’t use be or have in the short answer. We say “Yes, they will.” Not “Yes, they will
be” or “Yes, they will have”
