Portage Public Schools will fulfill our goal of academic success for all students by providing an equitable, safe, and flexible
learning environment mindful of social and emotional well-being for the entire school community.

SCENARIO 1: FACE-TO-FACE SCENARIO 2: HYBRID MODEL SCENARIO 3: ALL VIRTUAL

● Students meet in-person for
instruction at school using guidance
from the Michigan Department of
Education and CDC.
● Curriculum, taught by a certified PPS
teacher, is adjusted to meet each
student’s needs and address grade
level concepts.
● Implement health practices to keep
students, families, and staff safe.
● Focus on social-emotional learning
and mental health supports.
● Students meet on a modified
schedule using a combination of
newly designed virtual learning and
face-to-face instruction.
● Curriculum, taught by a certified PPS
teacher, is adjusted to meet each
student’s needs and address grade
level concepts.
● Implement health practices to keep
students, families, and staff safe.
● Focus on social-emotional learning
and mental health supports.
● Students participate in a newly
designed completely virtual
learning program at home.
● Curriculum, taught by a certified
PPS teacher, is adjusted to meet
each student’s needs and address
grade level concepts.
● An all virtual learning program may
also include courses provided by
external online vendors with PPS
teachers of record.
● Focus on social-emotional learning
and mental health supports.

INTERMITTENT VIRTUAL ONLINE OPTION

In all the options families have the option to enroll in a PPS
Scenarios 1 and 2 will be built to quickly adjust to virtual learning,
facilitated complete online learning environment for students
if needed, as outlined in Scenario 3.
Y5-12th grade.

As we work closely with the Michigan Department of Education, state health officials, the local government, community
leaders, families, and teachers, we will continue to develop plans that consider all aspects of how our community might be
affected. Our scenarios must be flexible and able to be scaled up or down depending on local conditions. No matter our
particular context or scenario, our mission is to educate all students to achieve their potential.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Over the summer PPS teams will be reflecting on what best practices and lessons learned can be carried forward as we plan
for the 20-21 school year. Teams are working to provide details for each scenario throughout the summer, with more fully
detailed plans by early August. Teams will prioritize work to be done across all scenarios in the following areas:

● Health Plans and Procedures ● Digital Tools and Access to Technology
● Transportation and Food Services ● Accessibility and Equity
