CHAPTER 9: DESIGN CONCEPT

9.1 Design Concept

Aesthetics:

Balangay and the Seashell

The concepts for the aesthetics are the Balangay and the Seashell is because

of the natural form that it will show. The Philippines is renown for its beaches

hence the seashell concept while the Balangay concept is to relate for the

local community. It is both related in a sense to the Philippines because the

seashell represents the beauty while the Balangay represents trade. The main

idea here is to represent the aesthetics by what the Philippines is known for

historically and culturally.

Overall Concept:

Give + Take

The overall concept that is give and take is derived from the early times of the

Philippines when the Filipinos accepted the foreigners (Magellan) to come

and trade. The idea here is that whatever the Filipinos gave, they also receive

something in return. This is in line with the idea of having a hotel and

convention since it both functions as the main give and take functionality

where the Filipinos and Foreigners will trade ideas, products that will produce

a relationship that is similar to what is in the past.

9.3 Design Consideration

9.3.1 Accessibility

The availability of the product, service to the actual users is

considered for the project. It is important that accessibility should be

prioritized for the ease of use

9.3.2 Vista

The vista or view is one of the major selling points to visit the

hotel and convention since it will attract visitors to stay and feel the

ambiance of the place.

9.3.3 Security

Security is essential as it is the consideration that will ensure the

relief of the users that they are safe within the area.

9.3.4 Zoning

Proper zoning is required to avoid confusion within the site.

9.3.5 Traffic Flow

Traffic flow for the pedestrian and vehicle should be properly

organized to minimize their intersections with each other.

9.3.6 Culture

Culture is needed to make the local users easily relate to the

feeling of using the area. For the foreigners, it is to showcase the

natural culture of the Philippines whether it is their first time visiting or

not.

9.3.7 Climate

Climate is essential so that proper design could be made.

9.3.8 Landscape

General landscape should be considered for the use of the local

people and to encourage visiting the site.

1. To design a Hotel and Convention Center that would house

international conventions and national exhibitions in Cebu.

2. To design a landscape that will enable the users to interact and enjoy

their natural surroundings as a way to give back to the community

3. To design a convention center that will be the major selling point for

visiting the area.

4. To design a hotel that will be a supporting facility to the convention

center.
